Any ideas?
Are you running 14.1? if not then try that, if so then please submit a crash report.

Hi, Saw post on Macs in EVE. Downloaded 14.1 and it installed, np on my MacBook Pro. General comment: AWESOME! Woooot!
Suggestions: 1. Skill planner, sort skills by time to complete by clicking on the column header, respect dependencies. 2. Allow right-click of planned skill to increase planned level. 3. Double-clicking column divider in skill planner should resize column to fit largest contents. 4. Consider incrementing planned level of skill if dragged into plan multiple times. 5. Nice to have (do later) export plan to text (or other) file. **Edit: Print to PDF is ok for now. 6. Dragging multiple-selected skills around in the skill planner is prevented - dragging one-by-one works. 7. Ability to add custom notes for each planned skill would be great. (I can't always remember why I wanted to train as skill, this will help). 8. I would like to also use the tool as an Eve item and ship database reference. Initially just 'get info' on the ship/item as currently with the skill would be fine. 9. Installation should ask if Eve db should be downloaded and what it will do, most will say yes. If I didn't read this forum, I wouldn't have known to tell the app to download the db to add the 'ships' feature.
I will repost with more as I find more.
Hey Flammard, why don't you surprise us and finish this app, progressing past the failed/slow attempts of others. Then you may even be as bold as to call the app "EveTools for Mac". How awesome wouldn't that be? Can't wait to see if it materializes.

Flammard,
First off, awesome app! You've taken on a huge task and are executing on it - well done.
I'm running into an issue - I've ensured that I have the latest version of the db downloaded, but don't see where to find the ships to add to a skill plan. I've cleared out the 'Library' file and reinstalled version 14.1, but no luck. Any ideas. (btw, new MacBook Pro, OS 10.5.7, no other issues).
And, for all the folks waiting for a proper icon, I tend to grab a planet icon from here to use as a place holder until a formal icon is released (I think I used Jupiter for Ceres). Just (1) download the folder of choice, open it and view 'as Icons', (2) 'get info' on the MacEveApi app, and (3) drag the desired new icon over the existing app icon at the top of the 'get info' pane. It's a temporary solution for those of us that hate seeing the plain app icon in the dock
Keep up the great work!

I totally agree.

Go to the statusbar > EveMacApi > Check for New Database
After the new database has been downloaded and installed the app will restart to be able to work with it. Then you should see ships to add to skillplan.

Thanks Rottenator, I had done that previously, and I just tried it again, with no luck. Where does the database install (into which directory), and where should I see the ships in the UI?

ZokFotPik: Star Control 2 - awesome game :)
I could possibly add sorting options, the reason I haven't yet is because it's not simple to do because of prerequisite constraints. I may do this in the future though. I plan to slicken up the planner interface a bit in future releases.
Dragging skills around in groups works, as long as prerequisite constraints are satisfied.
Text / PDF export: I could do this some time in the future possibly. What do you want to do with the export? What data do you want included?
Custom notes for a skill is something I could add.
A ship and item info screen is something I plan to add, but I haven't gotten around to just yet.
Garlon Das: In the skill planner there is a button in the top left corner that says "Skills", once the database is installed then a "Ship" button will appear.
The database lives in /Library/Application Support/MacEveApi/database.sqlite That's under the system root directory, not the user home directory.
If the database installer says it was all done than it should have installed it correctly. There is quite a lot of verification that goes on when it installs the database, so it shouldn't ever install a broken database without displaying an error. If you want to reinstall, just delete the file and run the update check again.

To be honest, I don't need this anymore. I used to export EveMon skill plan as text and clip it to Evernote (my external brain), also sync it to my iPhone. I didn't want to fire up my Parallels every time I just wanted to check my plan to update my in-game skill queue. But since I have a slick native OS X skill planner now, I don't need to do this anymore. Kudos!

Hey Flammard,
Updated your app today and now it's seems to be broke here.
Upon launch no characters display nor can be pulled down from the drop down menu. When I fiddle around in the preferences one character loads in the main window but the skill planner and character sheet are unaccessible. Drop down menu simply refuses to work.
Anything I can do to fix this?

Hmm, bugger.
If you could zip up and send me your Library/Application Support/MacEveApi folder it would help me track down the problem. email [email protected]
Also, the log file in Library/Logs/MacEveApi.log would be useful as well.
Otherwise, deleting the Library/Application Support/MacEveApi and re entering all your data should fix it, although it shouldn't be happening in the first place.

I've put the 14.1 release back up, re download that version if you're having trouble.
I think it's something wrong with the new skill queue control, but I'll need to investigate further.

A couple of things I have spotted
- on the Character Sheet page the blue Training Queue time bar displays less than 24 hours of skills queued when it should be full
- on the Skill Planner page adding a Strategic Cruiser to a skill plan loads an incomplete set of skills. Only the Defensive and Electronic sub systems appear to be catered for.
Keep up the good work

Edited by: Flammard on 31/07/2009 03:24:10 Psikon: The forum isn't showing your avatar, so that probably means your avatar isn't available yet, give it a few days and it should probably show up.
Binky Ruml: Thanks, I'll look into that. The skill queue control needs a little more work.
For those people who were having crashes with the 14.2 version, could you please try this version: Linkage
I'd like to say thanks to those people who emailed me with their data, It made tracking down the problem a lot eaiser.

Edited by: Kilabie on 31/07/2009 07:31:15 Just downloaded 14.3 and it seems to fix the problem, that came with 14.2, thanks.
But when I click on reload, then I can't select characters or click on reload again, it gets greyed out.

14.3 has a lot of changes to the way XML sheets are fetched and updates are handled, it's not quite finished yet (including the code to re-enable the buttons :) )
I've replaced the 14.3 test release with a new version that doesn't disable the buttons. If you want to use that then re download the test version that I posted above.

Upgraded 14.3 from 14.1: no issues. Love the new skill queue display.
Some usage issues I've encountered and suggestions: 1. When a skill finishes, it doesn't always update to show the new skill that started training from the queue. Manually clicking the reload button fixes it. 2. Sometimes after clicking reload the training rate says zero (although the new skill being trained is displayed). Clicking reload fixes. I suggest a auto-reload after a skill finishes, but delay it be a few seconds (30 or so should work) to address the above two issues. 3. Name suggestion: "EveTools for Mac" 4. Where's the toon that offered help on the dock icon? Would love to see a sample or temporary icon in the next update.
This is the best I've seen for a native Mac Eve tool. Seeing regular updates is a good sign, keep it up!

After a day of use I got some suggestions. I've seen no bugs and had no crashes. Always responsive and the application is seems to be intact. A couple of things I wished if they were:
1. If skill planning estimated time took into consideration my current attributes + learning skills. In EVE, it says it will take 2 hours to learn a particular skill. But in this software it shows up as 5 hours. This is the case for all the skills. The real estimated time to complete a skill is shown correctly in EVE but not in this application.
2. Adding skills to plan through certificates.
Cheers and thanks for the work.

I agree, attributes/learning calculated in the queue will make it more accurate. Ideally I want that app merged with a ship fitting tool, but I'm not developing any apps, so good job and keep it up!

It already does calculate this correctly, Check that my program reports your character attributes the same as the game client does. If there is a difference due to changing your implants or something similar you need to refresh the character sheet to get the latest attributes.
certificates is something I plan to do in the future, but I can't say when that will be done.
ZokFotPik: Are you still getting the training rate showing zero in 14.4 ? It should be fixed, but it's only a graphical glitch.
The skill queue doesn't automaticly move on to the next skill, nor does the character sheet. I may fix this up later on, depending on what other parts of the program need my attention first.

I must say that my alt character has some faulty calculations as well. A skill which in game says it last 11 hours is 1d2h according to the program. If I check in the skill planner I sometimes see it over 100% completed. For the rest it is still a fantastic program, it helps me alot in planning my skills and the occasional faulty calculation doesn't really bother me, since it usually corrects itself after quitting the app and restarting it.

I know it will say >100% completed if the skill was training but finished some time in the past and the character sheet hasn't been refreshed, if that is what you are referring to.
Where are you seeing these faulty calculations? in the character sheet, the skill planner or both? Is it a skill that is being trained, has been partially trained in the past or one that has never been trained?
And you say it fixes itself up after you restart the program?

I think what we're saying is the skill planner doesn't take into account the 100% training bonus for new players?
For example training a skill now with 4 hrs left (as the app says in my character sheet in remaining,' the training queue in the app says 12hrs left.
edit- my attributes show up correctly in the app.

One more observation on what is a most excellent addition to the Eve universe for players using a Mac
Purely cosmetic but on the Skills Page within the Training Queue - if a skill has a long name such as
Advanced Weapon Upgrades (6x) or Caldari Engineering Systems (1x)
then the skills name is overwritten on top of the Control to the right that shows the level

Ah, yeah. I don't take into account the new player training bonus, Is everyone who is getting this problem under 1.6 million SP ?
