Hi,
Me and my friend were talking about this one loss he got today and he insisted that he got blobbed. But the gang that attacked him was a size of a few battleships and cruiser sized ships, around 5 i think. But isint a blob something on a much bigger scale than 5 sub-caps vs a frig and a destro? Something like a (atleast) 20+ fleet going around on a rampage and killing loners and smaller gangs?

People almost always say they were blobbed when they lose a fight against uneven numbers. It makes them feel more comfortable with their loss that their opponents "blobbed" them rather than outsmarted/trapped/tricked/ganked etc.

Blob: Unnecesarily large fleet for achieving a goal.
bringing 10 people to gank 2 is blobbing.
Likewise, a 30 man gang formed up without any reasonable expectation of it running into any hostile gang that can challenge it numerically is a blob.

Edited by: Kessiaan on 15/06/2009 03:58:48 My general criteria is a 'blob' is a fleet that intentionally outnumbers the fleet its going after by at least 3:1.
So if you deliberately bring six ships to gank two, it's a blob. If a gang of six people just happens to stumble across a couple of people and ganks them, its not a blob. If a fleet of fifty people engages a fleet of forty people, its not a blob.
An 'omgwtfblob' is the same thing, only with at least seven to one odds. Extra lol points are awarded if they smack their targets in local after they dock up, and if they publicly wonder why they don't get fights.
A 'blobber' is a person who's Battleclinic stats show they only pvp as part of a blob. A bad blobber is a person who can't maintain a 3:1 k/d ratio despite only willfully engaging in massively one-sided fights.
And my name is Kessiaan and I'm up past my bedtime babbling like a lunatic. So I think I'll go sleep now. Maybe. |

A blob could be defined as a fleet that avoids all confrontation where theres risk of them losing =) Blobing is the Pve of Pvp. Sadly, people are so afraid to lose their spaceship pixels =)

Blobing is just an excuse. I got accused of blobing when I was alone. (1 ship is not a blob Amarr militia!) Everyone gets "blobed" at one point or another. Even the people who cry about blobing do it to others when they get the chance. It is just a silly statement people throw around cause having a good cry in local is the normal thing to do most of the time. |

I agree, if you have to scroll your overview thats a blob (>20). If you have 19 killing 1 .. thats a gank. and fair numbers and fight... thats IMPOSSIBLE lol |

I don't think blobbing has any strict size limits, I use it to describe a gang that is much larger than their opponent's gang. A 1 vs 6 fight is an example of blobbage and so is a 30 vs 90 man gang. 90 vs 105 is a fleet fight, not blobbing IMHO. I do not consider having superior firepower a key element of a blob, only the large numerical superiority. As an example, 5 inties attacking a lone neut domi is blobbing I think. But the inties will almost certainly lose that fight. |

The thing is do you count ships that just happen to be in the same space and contribute to your demise as a blob? If not then what are they supposed to do if they're there and you're a valid target - hold an impromptu election to decide who should attack and who should just watch?
Hotdrops are one thing, turning up in some busy low-sec system (e.g. Amamake) and then protesting about the many residents all shooting you seems a bit peculiar.
Personally I'd describe a blob as any number of ships that taken as a whole was conceived and is intended to make any single ship completely ineffectual in a fight - i.e. the target doesn't have a hope in hell of even taking down one of the blob members before going pop. |

Getting blobbed is when the opponent out of either boredom (everyone wanna join (sitting in a cap all the time doin nothing doesn't seem to be fun, and I understand MSpilots hotdropping on me, I really do)) or fear (omg we can't beat them in an eaven fight!) bring way more than they need to kill you. Then we have omgwtfJesusblob, that when your gang of say 10 ship meets like a 70+ man fleet.
Being a 'blobber' is when you every freakin possible time bring the jesusfleet, making fighting boring as hell. |

I believe that it is subjective; the size of a blob.
Personally, I think a blob can be defined as follows: a fleet consisting of a group of ships whose purpose is to overcome, demoralize, or otherwise remove the possibility of the opposition from surviving the outcome; resulting in a victim-like mentality demonstrated by an innability to remain calm and posed in the face of greater numbers.

To all pilots: stop telling the rest of your fleet if you find a solo target, or at least dont tell them until its too late for them to help and make eve a better place! (I take a lot of slag for this though :()

"Define a blob"
A large group of players that have no worth by themselves. Or an ego so huge they have a fleet to protect it. Or the other half that enjoy taking part in large scale battles. To each their own.
As a test let's see out of the three options which holds the most player base. Let's see how many times this is quoted/rebuttled due to an ego bruising to see what category they fall in.

Lets see
According to squid militia , 16 squid egaging/killing siigaari kitawi`s domi on a gate in tama with 16 ships is not a blob.
but
WOLFY landing 4 BS on the 16 squid is enough to get them all running away without engaging , and getting psyflame/squids squealing in local about how we just blobbed them.
go figure

Blobbing is such an emotive term, but it is one that is used to describe an enemy fleet. It doesn't even have to be bigger than yours. I've heard the term used to describe smaller fleets.
Frankly, I don't understand the issue surrounding this. Of course people will try and form big fleets. There is safety in numbers, and EVE is an unfair universe. And, of course, in real-life no-one commits to a war unless they're pretty sure they have strategic superiority (usually expressed in numbers, but also technological terms). The only way an inferior force fights is because it has no other choice. That's pretty much reflected in EVE.
If you don't want to get 'blobbed', then don't take out into lowsec what you can't afford to lose, because it will happen.
Normally, I would use such a term, because of the reasons I have listed, but I will admit to using this one, mostly because it has such a pleasing sound. Damn my aural pallette.

A: Any small group of players enjoying eve together while you attempt to solo and winge over the fact they have friends and wont line up to die single file style.
B: A roaming gang that out numbers your own.
C: A dedicated fleet, with a specific goal, mission, or intent, that out numbers your own gang / fleet.
D: Any one you lose to with numerical superiority (skill, ship size, ship class, etc not withstanding)

I think it's just short version of massive whining and bitterness...
Well, let's put it this way... Alliance A has 100 trigger happy members active and in fleet, alliance B has just 20 members active since other half is suffering from terrible hangover... Alliance B stays at station yelling at local, Alliance A just moves off bored since they couldn't find a proper fight... That's about it

as Lexa so amply demonstrates, its whenever you lose to a larger force
people like Lexa think everyone in the gang except 1 or 2 should dock up and only aggro under perfectly fair conditions because they believe in fairness above all other things
they would never blob anyone themselves and should they run across a smaller opposing force, would instantly disband their own fleet in an attempt to even the numbers
/alles klar ?

Cool Story Bro
Lolwut. I see 25 hostiles on that mail. There was no Titan ready, or any subcaps. We weren't looking for a fight but to save the tower, objective achieved, no losses. N1. If anything it was you kids who were 'blobbing' by dropping 50 BS on our 4 bait carriers. |
