in theory, MESA should be able to pick up the rendering ops the card does not support in software.
the difficulty will be getting wine to run eve when the driver says it doesn't support SM 2. And the GLSL support still needs to be exposed in the driver for the app to get the commands into the processing chain for MESA to pick off.
would think you'd need a "spoof" driver to get it all working.

Try 3D-Analyze. I do not know if it will work. Let us know if it does. |

3d-Analyse can only emulate PS 2.0 caps.
In the old time, I managed to run 3dmark test Nature on my Voodoo4 and so, all water was... a pink floor without any water effect!
My guest is that EVE will start with 3d-analyse (sm 2.0 supported!) but all shaders will be passed to /dev/null instead of be compiled. |

Well, im also looking for a program to disable 3D rendering, so its nothing but the eve UI, so i can do marketting, etc, because why do i need to see a ship in station if im never gonna have the resources to run the game with it there.... |

Edited by: Whitehound on 17/06/2009 22:53:39 I have given it a try myself, just to know if it does work or if it does not.
3D-Analyse itself starts within WINE but then fails to start EVE. It dies just after displaying the splash screen.
Trying to start ExeFile.exe instead of Eve.exe then shows why: EVE finds files in its directory, which I believe must come from 3D-Analyse and to emulate some DirectX functions, and bails out. It complains about files in its directory that should not be there. It appears to be a safety or anti-cheat function within EVE, which prevents it from starting.
According to this thread on eve-search does 3D-Analyse work for Windows. The way they described it does however not work for WINE.
You could still try to run it with 3D-Analyse from Windows and see if it works for you. -- If there is anything in your life you fear of losing, then keep your mouth shut once in a while. |
