Yes.. this is true for the most part. FW tends to be an arms race when it comes to gangs/fleets. One side blobs up then the other has to blob up to match. Which means there is very little middle ground to roam in small or solo gangs.
I'd like to just fly around in a 3 to 5 man gang of rifters all day. It's just the way FW is, people hear there is a fleet up then next thing you know the gang you joined with 5 to 10 turns into 30. |

I agree with mutin on this one, i often try to take out corp gangs of 10-15 for some fun and bonding but we seeem to run into larger fleets constantley leading us to either ask the militia to blob up or to open the corp fleet up to form the blob. Often though the militia is already in a large fleet and i pull my guys from it to get into corp fleet. |

General pop blobs make me want to self-destruct.. avoid joining them, avoid fighting them. Only thing about them that'll make your heart race is the noob rage.

I blame the amarr fc's for forming up blobs in the first place when there was nothing around to even shoot at which drove the minmatar to making their own blobs.
This front was very fun 5-6 months ago with plenty of small gang fights every night and now it's just blobby-blob lagfest and it sucks.

To be honest, it wouldnt be a blob if there was no lag. If we were fighting with the numbers we fight with in O.O this lag wouldnt happen, there is something about the FW that just lags right up once you have more than 35 people all shooting each other. The lag is what is killing the fights in FW, so many times, on both the amarr and minnies, the fight was determined by the lag and the side that should have won lost because of it.

i'm on the minnie FW side and gotta gree with a lot of the amarr here about 2 things. 1 the blobs are annoying.. not even going to argue who started it, but when the fights hit 35 ships and the server lags and people DC in the middle of fights... what else can you call it?
both sides lose fights from lag instead of from skill all the time.
between >MOST< of the fighters on both sides there's respect. i saw jodie post in here first page and i have full respect for jodie and most of gunship diplomacy. and i've seen amarr do some balsy things for good fun and good fights.
once i saw an amarr rifter drop into a 10-15 man fleet in a plex... MWD off with 2 frigs chasing it... it blew up the minnie interceptor before it died, and our FC delibrately called "let his pod go... he brought a good fight" and we had some fun talk in local.
i've also seen some serious smack... and heretics were in minnie FW for a while and were pirating they're own side... so i guess the best thing to say is make sure to join a good corp no matter which side you join. |

There are some corps on both sides who try to bring the fightin' in small gangs, and there are some corps whose corp-ops themselves are blobsized (dark-rising, we love you. We just cant do what you do, with the 50+ bs gangs and alts in caps =) ) Another issue is the alliances and pirate factions who get involved. In general they tend not to be a problem, the alliances arent very successful (looking at the star fraction killboard they are actually loosing in fw. badly. ) but they do come with capitals, and thats hard for the militia to counter. Thats the biggest single reason there are so few battles between amarr and militia, noone wants to fight the minmatars without enough crap to take on sf/em/whatever carriers. Ofcourse, every once in a while the amarr have to fight for it, or call in some other alliance that wants some free capkills (which keeps the number of caps the minmatars allies can deploy way down).
and, just as a sidenote- the reason the amarr are somewhat more organized is that from day one we have been outnumbered, usually badly, by the minmatar militia and their alliances. when the enemy has more isk, bigger ships, more ships and capital ship support you either adapt or die. I dont know what the gallente did, but whatever it was, the amarr miltia didnt do it :D |

I don't remember this part of FW, particularly the Minmatar bringing "Bigger ships." Amarr were always much better at shipping up, pickinp up 10+ bs in Kamela while the Minmatar were lucky to have 2-3 bs with a few BCs as support. Granted, I haven't been able to do much EVE recently, but when I was on more often the Amarr always brought bigger ships, and the only cap ship we had was Smog's carrier (til that thing blew up).

These days it seems to be more about whos got the gang out first. Amarr seem to be heavy EURO while the minnies tend to dominate the US TZ. (For now!! ) As a US TZ Fleet Commander I quite enjoy the challenge this presents for us. (Amarr) There have been some pretty amazing fights over the past week that I have been a part of, and nothing but goodfights in local afterwards.
I was in FW when it first started, and recently have comeback. Tbh I dont see that much has changed. Where old Corporations have left, new ones have taken their place to step in. To answer the OPs question: small scale pvp is definitely still possible you just have to be smart about it. Stay sharp, be aware of your sorroundings, know when to GTFO, and keep a sense of humor and youll be fine. Solo pvp is fun in cheaper ships as you KNOW you are going to get blobbed so flying that Vexor instead of Ishtar keeps a smile on your face when you go down.
People with deep pockets may disagree, and thats ok. To each their own lol.
