The iPhone is a proprietary platform.
Thus NO.
Try to ask for a full featured java client which can run everywhere.

I'm shure there is a App in the Store for that.
You maybe love the iPhone or hate it - thats something personal. But the iPhone is a sophisticated plattform and there are not many around who can compete with it. It has not much to do with the tech specification, its the complete product, the dev. plattform, the marketing....
Thats why i think:
1) i would like to have the functions on my iPhone 2) It will give some media/press responds, and that could make the investment in the software a bargain. |

I'm typining this out on my iPod touch right now. I second this idea for a functional eve app for evemail and skill management. I use eve tracker and today I realized I had forgotten to update myskills lastnight. So now I have 8 hours before I can get back on to change them. An iPhone app would be quite handy atm. |

Looks like we either have an Apple rep, or someone who swallowed their marketing hook, line and sinker.
Apple just found a great niche market for lazy yuppies who like shiny things.

I am against any form of external (from the client) skill management, regardless of the platform. You have a 24hour queue. Use that mushy stuff in your cranium and set a long skill as the last one in the queue and you will never lose training time. |

Well, thats the standard reaction when no argument is available. I use both plattforms and make my $ with windows applications.
That kind of reaction says a lot about the success of the iPhone.
But anyway... i still think the iPhone Client i mentioned at the beginning would give a nice and free marketing boost.

And you sir, are a troll. I doubt any Mac users really care about your comments, nor should they.
What'd you get, a Dell? OH MAN YOU TOTALLY SWALLOWED THEIR MARKETING HOOK, LINE AND SINKER. (because who knows where Dell could have gotten the inspiration for XPS One)
Even if you assembled your own water-cooled PC with a whoever-gives-a-**** latest GPU and riced it out with a neon case mod, racing stripe and flames, festooned with LED cables... and Vista skinned to be less of an eyesore (and thus more like a Mac) ... still nobody cares.

This.
It's why i've suggested to ask for a full featured java client - one on which you can really play eve from everywhere.
Another point not to support the iWhatever is, there are just a few users on these platforms, but developement would have to subventioned by all.
I have no problem to subvention linux since it's open, but if the apple crowd wants stuff they shall pay for it themselves - or opensource their complete iWhatever.
If you wonder why i'm that strictly con-apple, then look on the marketing model of iPhone in germany: you have to sign a contract with blood and sell your soul to DTAG to get one. Not enouggh, you are robbed for that by excessive overprised fees. Thus: no love for apple any more till they surrender and change it.
You want an iPhone client? Go and ask apple.

Hehe, you know thats not possible. CCP will not allow a client developed from a diffrent corp. CCP is closed source too and the plattform is not open ;-). |

This was explored once, not specifically for the iphone but handheld platforms in general. At the E3 before voice chat (2006?) they had reveled they were working on getting the game client to run on PDA's.

Something that allowed you to fiddle with the skill queue, production runs and buy/sell orders and contracts on a mobile platform would be exceptionally cool and useful IMHO. As a bonus even plug in to the EVEMail system and see what your corp is up to whilst at work.
But, when it comes to platforms you run in to an issue. Do you develop for iPhone, Android or WinCE? Obviously the iPhone people want it for theirs, us Android people will vote for our platform and the WinPhone people will root for their camp.
A better approach might be to NOT develop for any specific platform but to extend the existing API to allow for these functions. After all, several EveMon like apps exist for for at least two of the device types I mentioned and I'm sure enough googling would find one for WinCE.
After all this means developing AND supporting the apps is up to the EVE community with CCP only having to extend existing systems and kick them when they fall over rather than supporting a possible 4 different EVE 'things' (Windows, iPhone, WinCE, Android... Transgaming look after OS X). Which sounds more plausible and a lot less leg work for CCP.
