Below is our first installment of our CSM interviews CCP feature. Enjoy!
1. Are there still plans for a complete UI overhaul? We're incrementally overhauling the UI in EVE and we have a team of dedicated UI designers that make sure all new UI designs adhere to certain usability and functionality standards. They are also going over older aspects and reworking them, but as we all know EVE is vast and therefore this will take time.
2. What happened to the QEN in 2008? Do you intend to continue with the QEN for 2009 on schedule? Back in 2008 we lacked two vital things to ensure high quality QENÆs, the first was resources to get data and the second was people to analyze that data. Once we had secured new resources the economic crisis that hit the world, and locally in Iceland, late 2008 demanded considerable time from the Research and Statistics team simply sorting out what was exactly what was going on and how it would potentially impact CCP and its staff. Today we find ourselves in a much different place knowing that the economic crisis has not affected CCP as company, we have the resources we need and can therefore make sure the QENÆs are done as planned from now on.
3. Will we see an upgrade to the forums at any point? There are some exciting new things on the works, but weÆre not able to talk about them just yet.
4. Will Zulupark do more "Ask Uncle-Zulu" session?
Whether Zulupark does them, or someone else, there will be more "ask and ye shall receive answers" threads coming in the future.
5. With Caldari occupying all Gallente space in Factional Warfare, what are the consequences of this? Do you have any plans for the future of Factional Warfare?
We plan the NPC timeline for events leading up to expansions, coordinating the release of news and integrating the high level plot with chronicles, video, and everything else we can. This year, our storyline theme was to try and ôcross the streamsö more, meaning that we were going to look for ways to weave the exploits of capsuleers into the NPC canon. The Caldari sweep of contestable Federation space gave us the perfect context to do just that. By the time this yearÆs winter expansion is released, it will be clear that the NPC storyline events revealed then have direct origins to this player-generated event. In other words, it definitely shaped our storyline objectives, and fits perfectly with concurrent efforts to raise the visibility of player group actions in general.
(Future installments, as well as this one, can be found in the EVElopedia).

You're not able to talk about FORUM UPGRADES??? The only thing that comes to mind here is that this is just another coy way of saying "soon". And we all know what that means.
And calling forum upgrades 'exciting' is a good sign of how bad the current situation is.

I would much rather have Zulupark do a status of the items from his last Q&A session. Especially some interesting stuff (*cough* delayed Local) that was slated for the first quarter of this year. ...

I think that the issue of awful forum software is quite separate from any OOG EVE information site, and could have been resolved years ago, given an absolute minimum amount of attention from CCP.
The EVE info stuff could be added onto it at will (or 'soon' for all I care). ...

It's amazing how ignorant both CCP and the CSM are about anything other than trivial "upgrades" and "changes" or looking more and more into 0.0 life rather than fixing current issues and looking into high sec stuff more
A good indicator of this is that 2 people from Morsus Mihi are on the CSM. Good stuff with balancing the representatives completely in the hands of 0.0 people with no regard for anything else other than their own purposes

Good to hear that the FW stuff hasn't gone completely unnoticed, but what is planned with fixes to the fundemental FW game mechanics?
AKA the complexes, and everything buggy around them. ---

Btw one more question for CCP. Can you spend next time more then 2 minutes on answering this questions.

Question 1: CCP Hellmar said during the first live dev-blog, Trinity 2.0 would bring a COMPLETELY new user-interface.
Was this forgotten about or not? Source(08:30)
Question 3: Way to not answering the question
Question 4: SoonÖ? Not very specific. |

Way to post the Q&A, without actually apparently putting much effort into answering the few questions there are. As for #3, Youre not able to talk about them just yet. Is this because nothing has actually been developed yet and the team needs more time to make something up, or, being forum features, its just boring anyways and you hope we will forget?
Why are there all these future projects, when so much is still broken. Will stealth emitter arrays on poses ever, ever have a purpose in the game? Will the activation of guns ever be looked into under high lag situations, or a manner of remedying this? Will various ships or ship classes (ie the mothership, oneiros) ever be re-evaluated or balanced, to make them more in line with other races variants, or just given a useful role in the game?
PLEASE, PLEASE, do not release walking in stations until some of these issues have been fixed. |

Ok, i tried, and I can't leave this as a troll with even a half straight face.
This is by far some of the crappiest questions I've ever seen, and by and large are probably the farthest from the player bases concerns.

Heya all,
I'd like to take the time to address the concerns you have regarding our forums. We are acutely aware of the issues many of you have reported in regards to logging into the forums and staying logged in. We're currently working on getting this issue resolved as quickly as possible, and ask for your patience in this matter.
And yes, good things will be coming in the future for forums. And no, not even cookies will inspire me to spill the beans. |

Edited by: riverini on 26/06/2009 23:07:04 i got a fair share of questions that i believe would be more interesting that the op ones..:
6. What's the dealio with AMBULATION/Walk in Stations???
7. How much is Soon (tm) when u have more than 2 yrs saying that AMBULATION/Walk in Stations will come out soon?. is this a way to mock ur customers?
8. why did u guys announced a feature like AMBULATION/Walk in Stations with what seems to be a lot of pending work to do?
8. Why don't you guys use the cash that is used on the CSM and hire some more programmers to get AMBULATION/Walk in Stations ready?.
9. Who cares about the forums upgrades when a) Forums aren't broken b) CCP doesn't give us feedback on even in most-wanted features like WiS?.
10. Do u guys really read the forums and laugh at us, gullible fools who write in the forums waiting for our voices to be heard? if not, pls check the ambulations/wis forum post.
11. When would AMBULATION/Walk in Stations be realistically coming out?.
12. If Jumpgate Evolutions and Star Trek Online comes out before AMBULATION/Walk in Stations, do u guys think that would affect ur mainstream player base?
13. no am not obsessed with AMBULATION/Walk in Stations...

Edited by: Praerian on 26/06/2009 23:12:06 Edited by: Praerian on 26/06/2009 23:10:15 You know just once I would love to be able to grab a company like CCP and shake them until they realise communication is key.
Everything on all their forums and posts are either stupidly vague or from 2008.
The CSM is a positive step in the general sense, concerns over some people's ego's being inflated, but that happens with most politicians (I hope CCP are checking the expense receipts... 1B isk for a duck pond in a titan?).
I think what the player base as a consensus would like is the following points:
1. CCP to be more open with a roadmap of where EVE is going... yea we know you want to keep some suprises but you don't have to tell us the gory detail just a few specifics.
2. To admit mistakes or items that have been dropped or rethought.. FW anyone?
3. To feel that as customers we are taken seriously, I know CCP is a business but the customer should always be right, so many people saying communication from CCP is below standard would ring alarm bells at alot of other companies.
To balance the statement up a little with how we can help address this.
1. If an idea is dumped or postponed 1000's of emorage quit threads only serve to make developrs less likely to be open.. be understanding of the cycles of development.
2. Try and make the forums less of a troll mission and more of a discussion. ( will never happen but can hope).
3. Actually take the time to write to CCP and tell them there communication is poor.EMORAGE on the forums is not the way to do it..
We all love this game and we are passionate about it, so is CCP you would think there would be a common interest that would allow a middle ground between the two camps, we both invest a hell of alot in this so hopefully someone at CCP will read this and think, there is point to this ramble.

In the past, we saw only incremental killing of the whole UI. Every good step was subdued by no less than three bad steps. An example? See. All windows can now been moved? Good, now see - they are stacking even if tell them to not stack, two windows placed in the same corner been stacked atop eachother if you close and open one of them, and no way i can resize 2 of 3 windows in a "stack" at the same time. All or one...
How can I trust you this time?
Good god! What your artists using for paintjob? It's not Photoshop or GIMP, for sure. Cause both of them has PERFECT example of organising multiple windows in USABLE way without any ****. --sig--

They did actually. The first CSM brought it up on the trip to CCP. It got tabled because the Dev's have some grand plan for revamping 0.0, and would rather either toss it in with that, or get a working system for controlling nullsec out the door first. They did say some amount of development hours had been put into the dead horse problem.. but if that's a whiteboard and beer development hours, or actually doing work development hours... who knows. My personal guess is whiteboard and beer time.
Sometime there actually is information in the CSM stuff. Signal to Noise is very very high, but stuff is there. Don't particularly care for all the answers, specifically on something like that where I see the physical representation of a POS as having nothing to do with the sovereignty system. But what you gunna do?
