Quote: 2. There are eight beacons in the system, which serve as start off points. Four beacons are marked for Team 1 and four marked for Team 2. The teams must assemble at any of the four beacons designated for their team.
3. Once the word is given, teams warp in to the arena from whichever beacon they assembled, at a range they prefer, up to a maximum of 50 km. Team members are allowed to warp in at different ranges.
4. The arena will measure a 125 km radius, 250km diameter.
How are the staging beacons located relative to one another?
What is the max distance two teams can end up from one another?

the max distance will be near 100km though im not sure if there are any beacons exactly opposite each other. typically last tournament long range starts were somewhere around 70k.
the best way to explain the position of the beacons is that they are random-ish. with intentional separation in mind (no beacons very close to each other. also i dont think there will be any beacons with a lot of vertical orientation relative to the others. expect 360 degress of horizontal possibility and more like 90 degrees of vertical possibility (45 both up and down). this isnt exact but its close as i can get from memory of last year

I had always the feeling that the arena - sphere - is inscribed inside a cube/block, where the vertexes that form the cube would be the beacons you can warp in. Each party would then have two beacons on the upper side of cube (diagonally from each other), and two on the bottom side of the cube.
Then if: - first team would warp to 0, the other team could get to 50km max, no matter which beacon they pick - first team would warp to 50 (max distance), and the other team to max distance as well, they would have 75% chance of being ~70km from each other (beacons shared the same side of cube, sqrt(50^2+50^2)), and 25% chance they would end up 100km from each other (totally opposing vertexes).
But this is based on assumption that it's really a cube, and since I think I never really bothered to check the system map to confirm this, I might be wrong ... ;)
Quote: The teams must assemble at any of the four beacons designated for their team.
Also - the statement above can be interpreted either that: a) all members of the same team must gather at exactly one beacon b) all members of the same team can be at different beacons belonging to that team
I asked the GM about this before one of the matches that we had in the past, and the reply was a) is correct.
However, what I've seen on more than one occasion in the tournaments - ships from the same team coming from different directions and distances into arena, makes me think that this is actually unclear even for the CCP.
Can we get the official statement on this subject please ?

last time around we all had to warp to the same starting beacon. and like Kil2 says, depending on which you choose you and the opposing team can come to the arena quite close even if you both warp to 50km.
Last year when we went against Goodfellas we both warped to 50km and ended up 40km from each other because of the way the beacons are arranged. _________________________________

I'll see if we can't get a map of some sort made.

Lazy? Get in the system. Bookmark everything. Make your F10 map show bookmarks. Take a topdown screenshot (assuming things are pretty much in the same horizontal plane). Profit.
Sounds like someone has not been doing his probing homework lately :P

Theyre not in the same horizontal plane.
