Sooooooo, small, medium and large rigs announced.
No blog yet - is it safe to assume that a small/medium rig will just use less of the same salvage to get that reduced rig cost? Seems the neatest solution...
Will this produce any sizeable increase in salvage demand - seems unlikely, but does anyone cleverer than me have any insights?

Assuming that the Large Rigs reflect the current "Uni-rig" build costs and the smaller rigs have a progressively less expensive build cost, my opinion is that the demand on salvage will go down. This will lead to salvage prices trending downward for awhile with "large rig" prices following.
Of course, this is just my 0.02 isk.

Edited by: Ghoest on 01/07/2009 20:27:21 Its hard to predict the whims of the market but I dont think it will effect salvage prices.
Less salvage will be required to equip medium and small ships but more small ships will pack rigs.
T2 salvage may see some price movement though.

If anything I forsee it reducing demand assuming they go with the simplest solution of less salvage for smaller rigs but equal build ratios.
That is unless they also up the build amounts for current soon to be large rigs. |

I see the demand going UP.
Currently you only rig BC's and BS's... Those rigs will not die off.
You will now have people producting 3x's as many rigs, not using 3x the salvage, but still using more.
Salvage demand goes UP. Start stocking up NOW!

Agreed, the current use of rigs has leveled the market, with different sized rigs becoming available, the quantity of salvage on the market will decrease and thus the market prices should rise across the board.
Looking forward to it.

Edited by: Ikserak tai on 01/07/2009 21:30:57 The multi-million Isk question: Will the current rig BP's be edited to include the ability to make small and medium rigs, or will whole new sets of BP's be needed to make them?
I've rigged a few cruisers just for grins, but this will mean a wholesale rigging of cruisers, destroyers, and frigs for a lot of players now that they will be affordable.

It depends on how much less salvage is needed for the smaller rig sizes, and which ship size each type of rig will be used on. Depending on that, it can go either way.

It's all speculation until we get specifics of the implementation. Suddenly Ninjas will be watching with great interest, of course.
My best guess based on almost no information is that prices are likely to spike at release, then collapse, then level off somewhat lower than they are currently.
In the mean time, expect prices to rise slowly as we build toward the release of the test build, and folks start hoarding up their salvage instead of selling it immediately.

Edited by: Tesal on 01/07/2009 21:47:44 I think speed and cargo rigs will get the biggest hit, they are fit to cruisers, HACs and haulers and sometimes frigs, although they may be used more for this purpose link on interceptors. I think grid/cap/armor rigs will stay the same because they are already fit to pvp BS and mission ships. Gunnery rigs will probably see a boost as small ships fit for more DPS.
I hope CCP fixes the garbage rigs while they are at it, they are never used, they should just get rid of them or make them useful.
*edit I finally have an excuse to train up my rig skills. Imagine that!

It would be difficult to make an accurate prediction without data about how many rigs have been fitted to which class of ship.
My hunch is the biggest rig users atm are lvl 4 mission runners who mostly use battleships, so the salvage use for their rigs will remain the same. Besides the battleship users there are the tech 2 cruisers/battlecruisers users, which will I assume use medium rigs, with reduced salvage requirements. But I beilive this will be compensated for by a lot more people fitting rigs to sub-battlecruiser tech 1 ships.
So I'm guessing after an initial spike when everyone gets excited and starts making the new sized rigs, the prices of most of the salvage will settle about where they are now.
An exception being alloyed tritanium bars, fried interface circuits and tripped power circuits, as use in cargo rigs. The biggest users of cargo rigs are the industrials, their tech 2 versions, and the exhumers. All of which will presumably use medium rigs, reducing demand for their components. Obviously these components are used in other rigs as well, but I would expect a small drop in value.

My guess?
Assuming that CCP will adjust the drop rate of salvage, Large Rigs: Same price Medium Rigs: 50% of Large Rigs Small Rigs: 50% of Medium Rigs
Assuming that CCP leaves the ratio alone, Large Rigs: 50% price increase Medium Rigs: 50% of Large Rigs Small Rigs: 50% of Medium Rigs
That's from the department of pulling numbers outta my ass.

Here's the real 64 million dollar question:
Will they use these sized rigs like guns??? Large for BS, Med for Crusier/BC, Small for Frig/Dessie? Or will the rigs be a kind of Small = 30% of large's effect Med = 60% of large effect? What will happen to the 'large' (current) rigs that are on Frigs/Dessies/Cruisers?
And I am really looking forward to buying another 2 sets of rig BPs to get to do ME research on... better gets those research towers ready to rock

I wish they could just use the current BPs and add a drop down list of size choices (like invention choices). I know that for practical reasons (likely material balancing) that's not likely to happen, but it'd be nice.

Gotta agree, the amount of BPs one must keep track of is getting a little silly lately |

From what i can gather it seem CCP are reducing the bonus's and possibly fitting rquirements on the medium and small rig. They said large will be the current rigs and will be untouched.
So im my opinion.
Large rigs will stay the same
Small and medium will be used only in fits where calibration is a problem.
IMO If its not worth fitting them now it wont be worth fitting the toned down versions. So I cannot see much movement apart from the usually post patch panic/manipulation

Salvage tackle rigs will be cheaper, which means they'l get fit to more small salvage boats, which in turn will save time and increase the supply of mission loot. So, everything will be made cheaper as a result ;-)

Well since I last posted salvage sales in my location have pretty much stopped.
Certainly for the low end stuff I've been buying, pretty much constantly for the last 6 months.
Been maintaining some buy orders, solar system only, and generally get 1k-2k of any one salvage type per day - logged in just now to an average of 30 units per salvage type.
Looks like some hoarding has started from mission runners, is the same scenario replicated in Jita?

The Demand will go up. Most people did not buy rigs for anything less then a BS or BC or Tech 2 ship any ways. And this people will still keep buying the rigs we use now even as they get labled Large. Some like the smaller tech 2 ships and I dont know mybe even BC will use med or small rigs. But there will be a hole new rig market as it will now make perfect isk to put that med or small rig on your cruiser or frig.
