Hi folks,
Just to confirm the rumor: Publication has been pushed back from November to February. I'm sorry for the delay, but I'm afraid it couldn't be avoided. I'd love to have you guys getting the book right now (original publication date was November 8, which coincidentally was my 30th birthday), but believe me, with the final round of edits we did on it, it's going to be even more worth your money than before.
Just think of it as a delayed seasonal present. For everyone except me, that is. I have the script sitting here on table beside me. Maybe I'll flip through it once at lunchtime. Smell those pages. Mmmhmmm ...

Alright, just got word from my editors: Final date is in March. It was always wavering a bit between the two months, but I figured I'd be on the safe side and update the thread again.
As for a preview: Not right now, but I'd love to write another dev blog about the novel some time before it comes out, and I might well include something there. I liked doing the FF reading; it's always nice to hear the voice in your head suddenly sounding through speakers Not to mention how much better of a feel you get for the rhythm of your sentences once they're spoken out loud.

But I'm sure it will be worth the wait.

Edited by: JamesHowlett on 22/01/2010 03:49:15 If I get to enjoy The Burning Life half as much as I enjoyed Empyrean Age, I'll finally have to get off my ass and order the 4-back of battleship statues.
Can't wait to read it, Abraxas!
Plus, it has a Raven on the cover. That's a 100% bonus to awesome. |

I am very excited about this space opera. For me the hardest part of books in the Space Opera genre is trying to visualize a super perfect universe (i.e Iain M. Banks' Culture series) so needless to say I am excited about further exploring a familiar setting.

Amazon put up duplicate listings a while back and I suspect you chanced to preorder wrong one. It's no biggie, though - we're working on having them eliminate the ghost listing, but you should be able to put in a preorder for the proper item whenever you want. The book is coming out in March, and I know this, BECAUSE THE VERY FIRST PRINTED COPY IS SITTING ON MY DESK RIGHT NOW!
Sorry, guys. Having a bit of a geekout moment here...

I finally found The Empyrean Age on a Barnes and Noble bookshelf after looking for about a year myself. It was the very last copy in paperback. The book was all bent and the front cover was ripped so they knocked a dollar off of the price.
Now, I understand that the book is derived from the lore of the game and is placed in bookstores as game fiction. But what really decides how the product gets placed on bookshelves? Tony Gonzales' novel can stand on its own as a sci-fi/fantasy novel, no problem. But the book is located in game fiction and not in sci-fi/fantasy, where I began to look for the book, by author, in the first place.
It will be interesting to see if The Burning life, upon its release, is placed on the new fiction shelf. After all, the new World of Warcraft book, Stormrage, is there now.

any further info on this book? Amazon lists it as 1st March 2010 - but that date has come and gone, and the amazon page has not been updated.
Im a little worried this book has been delayed more times than Duke Nukem: forever
