I understand that the economy is the worst it's been since the 1930's but how the hell did we end up here? It's like one day I went to bed and everything's fine and the next BOOM Great Depression. Wha happen?

It doesn't help either when the government strongarms said-banks into lending to risky clients and said-banks don't have the balls to tell the goverment to **** off. Almost 40 years of that has finally caught up to us....

This just in.... Humans finally waking up from the age of ignorance in what can only be described as equal to a second Renaissance.
Well one can only hope right?
No seriously President Obama said it correctly the other day. Inform your neighbor, inform your family, inform your friends. Get people informed. Make them care about government. Make them care about economy.
I am doing everything in my power to inform those who are willing to listen
The problem is that people are only just now starting to listen, and I've been talking since 2000. Nearly a decade.
And to answer your question about one day things are fine, next day they aren't, that's not true.
Things haven't been "fine" since 1960. Your respective governments have been giving you the false sense that everything is fine, but the veil of lies and deceit is coming off. Hopefully everyone will wake up, crack an economics book, learn basic law, and do something about all these worthless politicians that lie to you, but I won't hold my breath.
The American people are especially ignorant, and the majority that I deal with lately would rather stick their head in the sand and have blind hope then acknowledge the problem and work with me towards a solution.
I'm sure President Obama deals with the exact same thing on a daily basis. While we don't agree on policy all the time, he and I are not so different, and our goals are much the same.
The United States will be fixed with the sacrifice of nearly all Americans. The sacrifice of quality of life is necessary to curb the irresponsible consumerism of 40 years. The sooner we fall as a nation, the sooner we will rebuild and pick ourselves back up, and become the best nation in the world. A nation to be proud of, a nation of every culture, religion, and creed. A nation of true freedom.
We will get there, but first you have to do your part. Become educated, abandon ignorance, abandon your hope. Hoping for a better future won't create a better future anymore then hoping for a ditch to be dug, will dig a ditch. You have to pick up the shovel.

Technology won't allow us to reach 1920's- 1930's level nor will globalization.
While it's nice to compare the Great depression and now, it's not a true comparison.
We have already surpassed a "great depression" what we are in fact headed towards is much worse.
Technology and globalization are two of the main things saving all of us by reducing the impact felt immediately. The huge influx of printed money takes a while to be sorted as well... |

Edited by: Epegi Givo on 02/07/2009 20:12:39 people started giving loans for houses that were REALLY expensive, so poor people could get into them.
The overall plan was for the houses to eventually go UP in price, so the people buying the house would sell the house. They would pay off the loan, have been in an awesome house for a year, and still walk away with additional money.
Of coarse, the people were still paying off loans in increments that year.
Now, people couldn't always afford to pay the increments, so what the bank did was accept half of the increment payment, then ADD the remainder to the overall loan.
Example: Someone takes out a 100,000 loan, with increments of 800$ over that year or two or 3 the person stays in the house.
Person can't afford 800$, so he pays 400$. with the 400$ extra adding tot he 100,000. So now that person owes the bank 100,400$.
But, the house price would go up by a lot so the person still gains a lot of money from it.
Unfortunately, house prices didn't go up. Instead, house prices plummeted.
After a bit, people realized that in the end, they weren't going to profit. And they realized that the deal is going to keep getting worse and worse for them because of the increasing loan.
So, people stopped paying the big banks.
The big banks could no longer afford to sustain themselves, so they started collapsing, making America poorer, and poorer.
And because America is a pretty big trading country, when it went down it dragged the other countries down with it. ------------------------------------- My other alt is a Ferrari

rValdez5987 Amarr Imperial Guard =============== I agree in part of what you said...Although the sacrifice won't be just American. Every "free" nation is at fault at some point. And Obama is wrong...every nation in the history of the world that's tried to spend to fix (the economy, education, etc.) has failed in trying. I agree with you that people need to educate themselves...don't rely on the government to give you a decent education. My generation is screwed. Too many don't even know history and what they do know isn't true. Remember 1930's Germany...that's what the U.S. is turning into. And Europe doesn't have enough backbone yet to step up. The sacrifice will be many lives across the globe. This is close to the perfect time for a major war, unfortunately. The U.S. government is moving down the wrong side of history at the moment. But before other nations jump to criticize they should ask themselves how many nations and people have they freed in the last 100 years and who was their best friend through their toughest times....

The act of the government forcing financial institutions to give loans to people who didn't deserve them started in Carter's term. It was never fixed since. Then they spent years teaching people that the "American Dream" meant handouts instead of opportunity and work.

For the UK there is a long way to go before it gets as bad as it did in the late 1960's and 1970's:-
Unions were too powerfull and ran by commie sympathisers. 1979 was particulary harsh with lots of strikes causing government services not being delivered.
There are rumours that if Labour won the electrion in 1979 the army would take over in a coup.
Harold Wilson in the late '60's was under intense pressure from the USA to commit British troops to Vietnam. He had to do a balancing act to try and keep USA sweet so USA banks would not walk out on Britian which would mean UK could not fund social services like hospitals. Labour MP's at the time did not appreciate Wilsons dilema and caused him much trouble.
When Thatcher got into power she did chainsaw surgery to the British economy and manufacturing. But there was so much dead wood the manufacturing house fell down causing much social decline in industry heartlands.

debt is control
for example each dollar that gets loaned from the federal reserve bank (private establishment) to the us has debt automatically
so if you want to understand this alittle bit from that site go and research about banks and how they came into being etc etc especially federal reserve and the act of 1913 which basicly did sell out america to the bankers

I've had people that say I should be imprisoned for the things I say in regards to the current crisis as well as the actions I take.
There is a growing population that feel that free speech should only be free when your saying things that they agree with, anything else allows them to label you a traitor. But see that means it's not free speech anymore.

But, yes, enough people have been ignorant for too long. There really isn't anywhere else to go. Better to take back the country then let it fall to the wayside. I've seen many parts of the world and how bad it can be when people give up and stay ignorant. I don't want that for us. Trust me. Plus, it wasn't just us. Most of the world stayed ignorant to this. We just catch the bulk of the blame. That's what happens when you choose to lead and everyone else follows. Pretty soon they decide it's better to kick you when you're down instead of remembering how we helped them and maybe it's better to return the favor.

Since when does cussing make you look like a nut? And how can you look like something with text anyway.
Insulting people who deserve to be insulted isn't a bad thing. As far as I'm concerned anyone who hasn't realized what's going on by now doesn't want to, because there are numerous outlets right in front of their faces where they can find this stuff out. But they don't want to. Why? Because they're used to their comfy, materialistic, overfed, thought-free existence in this country.
Know what else lives like that? Cattle. Things we feed off of. Government doesn't "eat" us, but they sure as hell feed off of our 9-5 40 hour week lifestyles by basically STEALING from us through taxes.
We waste almost 100% of our lives working, and not even for ourselves most of the time. We spend our lives realizing someone elses goals & dreams. We spend most of our lives being paid pennies while someone makes tens of thousands of dollars off of our hard work. It's the way society has bred these last few generations. Do well in school, go to college, work hard, retire. Through that they try to scare you into obedience by threatening to throw you in jail if you question authority.
There are alternative ways of making money, but they're either shunned by the government and they tell you that it's a scam and not to waste your time (Amway, Avon, etc). They don't want you to go into business for yourself because that means some corporation somewhere won't have another warm body to keep them up and running.

======================== This isn't going to end anytime soon. It may look like it but after we'll get hit with huge inflation. Obama is way worse than Bush on spending. It took Obama about 6 months to spend what took Bush 8 years. Some private orginizations do cheat but that's capitalism. That's why we have laws and regulation. But, when the government starts running things then we're really done for. My state can't even keep the roads kept up, balance a budget, or educate our students. We ranked #1 in education in the late 70's and early 80's. Now we're ranked 49...because of government. Watch the various news networks. The ones who are the biggest cheerleaders for this new form of government are the ones lying. It doesn't work and it's never been proven to work. The only method that ever worked was cutting taxes and letting the private sector thrive. If people cheat or become fraudulent then you punish them. That's what failed...no regulation and enforcement of existing laws and the government getting involved in the private sector. It's history repeating itself.

History can only repeat itself so many times before the people realize what's going on and retaliate. Take a look at Iran. When that happens in the U.S. it will be on a much larger scale, and it will be much more violent. The government will sic the military, police, and whatever random privatized "enforcement" groups are out there on us. But what they don't realize, or maybe they do, is that those people they'll send to stop us will be fighting against their family and friends. The government is digging it's own grave, and eventually we WILL put it in it.
No form of government really works, because our modern day government isn't what government is supposed to be. Government was never meant to take care of people on such a large scale. It's outgrown it's original boundaries. Why? Because we let it. We want someone to do all the dirty work and to take care of us because we don't want to do it ourselves. We're a lazy society corrupted by vanity and greed. We asked for it and got it. _____

==================== I was in the military. If they sic the military on the people the government runs the risk of the military deposing them so that new leadership can be elected. It happened in Honduras. This happens in all societies that grow and become large. We didn't set boundaries (on a social level) and we let people do what they wanted. We either become stronger from this and reset the Republic...or we go like Rome. This isn't the first time this nation has had upheval. That's why people should understand that our nation is not above another Civil War. It could actually go down that road.
