Edited by: CCP Fallout on 06/07/2009 18:49:45 It's no secret that due to the high cost of rigs, rig fitting is almost like rocket science: how to balance the high cost compared to what you want to bring to your frigates or cruisers. This is why CCP Chronotis' newest dev blog is key. In it he discusses some of the upcoming changes and ideas we'd like to bring to the table to improve rigging. You can read his blog here.

Salvage conversion is fail. One more step to "do everything in empire" and nerf 0.0 or pvp profits. Maybe it would be better to give as inbuild low effectivness salvager as pvp ships simply can't fit standard one and often have to destroy tech 2 wrecks so they won't be salvaged by the enemy.

Quote: 3. Salvage Conversion
Salvage conversion is something we have wanted to look at for a while. This is the ability to effectively fix broken salvage so it can be used to manufacture Tech II rigs. The most likely way this will be done is a through a reactor which will convert a quantity of broken salvage to fixed salvage in reactors which can be placed at high sec starbases.
I'm not sure I'm going to like this change. I would hate to see T2 rigs become so common. I currently feel that T2 rigs are perfectly priced, expensive as hell but not out of reach.
I also feel that if CCP is going to do "salvage alchemy" that it shouldnt be done in high sec. Low sec is a waste land for the most part and needs as much incentive as it can get without taking away from the "rewards" of 0.0.
Quote: 4. Transport of Rigged Ships
This is something that can be a pain for many of you. There are ways around it such as using courier missions if the ship is small enough with a freighter or an Orca's ship maintenance bay for smaller ships. We will be looking into numerous ways to help alleviate the issue of transporting rigged ships.
I think one of the things that could be done is to increase the size of the Orca's Maintenance Bay to allow at least 1 BS and 1 Cruiser sized hull at the same time. I think the Orca missed being spot on as a ship transporter in its initial incarnation by not being able to move rigger BS. --

Fixed. There is no reason not to equip a PvP ship with a Salvager I. It's strictly voluntary that you don't fit at least one ship in your gang with a Salvager I. At 20cpu and 1pg there are very few ships that can't fit one in in their utility high. That's why it's called a utility high.

CCP Chronotis, question:
Larges can be used in capital ships? or will there be capital sized rigs?

With regards to the cost of rigs upon the multi size rigs implementation, are you taking into account that the supply of salvage will remain generally the same, so therefore the overall cost of rigs may increase since there's more rigs to spend salvage on creating?
Since more people would undoubtedly want to rig the smaller ships in the game, and there being far more frigate and cruiser sized ships than battleships, the large rigs will probably go up in price due to less people building them.

I think the price would balance itself back out quickly enough without any interference from CCP on the drop rates. There are a lot of wrecks that do not get salvaged because of the current "low" price of the drops. Supply/Demand mechanics will drive players to be more proactive in the salvaging of their missions again and cause the price(of salvage) to stabalize roughly around the same place it is now. --

If it was lowsec/0.0 like all the other reactors would that be ok?
Also wanting to know about capital ship rigs.

I don't like how the new rigs are supposed to behave. Makes no sense to me to be honest.
For example should it be possible to fit a small rig to a battleship - only that it would give then not 15% bonus (or whatever) but 5% (or whatever).
Also this could be easily accomplished:
1) To fit small rigs should cost only few calibration points. To fit medium rigs should cost more calibration points and to fit large rigs should cost most points.
2) Small ships should have few calibration points (just enough that they can fit 3 small rigs). Medium ships should have more calibration points and large ships should hsve most calibration points.
3) If you fit a small rig to a small ship, you get 100% rig efficienty. If you fit a small rig to a medium ship you get 66% efficiency of the rig, if you fit a small rig to a large ship you get 30% rig efficency. If you fit a medium rig to a small ship or a large rig to a medium ship you should get a rig efficiency boost of 30%.
And besides that, what about rigs for capital ships? x-large rigs? Makes no sense that large (battleship sized) rigs should cover also capital ships and supercapital ships.

hey all my rifters are rigged.
is that wrong =O ?
Isn't a factor 5 going to make rigs so incredibly popular that salvage prices are going to rocket to the point where you have to pay 30 million isk for a large trimark pump ? _______________ Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. More like 25 times less ;) assuming current prices stay same. But they won't.

Some really nice things in this dev blog which im looking forward too. Making it viable to actually rig smaller ships is a really nice idea.
However the conversion mechanics should not take place in high-sec, low-sec should be the place for this sort of thing or you could as well move all other reactions up to high. If people want to profit from t2 then they should do it in low-sec simple as risk vs reward.
However some rigs (mostly t2) need a real good looking at because a few have really odd fitting requirements. Per example you can fit 2 Gravity Capacitor Upgrade I's but you cant fit 2 t2's or 1 t1 and 1 t2.

Edited by: Dibsi Dei on 06/07/2009 21:08:50 Weapon rigs do not need buffing as they are intended to be inferior to actual ship modules.
Rigs that are not stacking penalized such as Trimark armor pumps and Core defence field extenders & purgers are however in dire need of rebalancing. These rigs make passive tanking way too easy and active tanking a rarity.
edit: sorry wrong forum

Will you consider removing existing rigs to the ships cargoholds? This will be a fair solution for those of us, who already have some expensive rigs mounted onto undersized ships. I don't think this will hurt anyone else.

Why not simply a way to "cut" 1 large rig into 5 medium rigs... Instead of another ton of blueprints? ________________________________________

No it won't. It doesn't matter where such reactors can be used or how long production chain would be. The main problem is what the source material can be easily farmed in highsec. I would welcome more acceptable t2 rig prices but not at the cost of drastic inflation of t2 wrecks worth which are currently quite a good "pvp catalyst".

Honestly, fix Contracts so you can contract ships with damaged crystals, instead of "fixing" rigs which dont need fixing anyway..

The Quantum Rising Expansion, the Orca's initial production lead to so many market changes. They can be still felt even to this day. I like to introduce anyone who is reading to a simple small change to the Orca to better reflect it's role as a mini-freighter/bridge to freighter.
Why did CCP decide to not make it possible to fit a battleship 500,000 m3 inside an OrcaŠs ship maintenance bay of 400,000m3? One possible solution is to enlarge the ship maintenance bay up to 600,000 m3 for 6 skiffs or 3x hulks or 4x mackinaws. Or maybe allow at least one battleship minimum or more cruisers and frigates.
Right now you canŠt haul a rigged battleship in freighter via courier contract or even in highsec unless you plan to allow carrier/mothership into highsec which is even more unlikely due to combat potential. I am sure they had a reason to limit courier contracts, but that limitation as far I understand doesn't extend to Orcas. I would like more information as this is not a thread for speculation.
I would be happy to make a compromise with CCP, but this proposal isn't about what the the terms of compromise may be, but rather what changes I think should happen. A compromise may be necessary as I don't know to what extent how CCP plans to make changes. Speaking of changes please do not mention that "The orca will never be a carrier" because carriers have so much more especially as it can protect itself to a degree and has jump drive capability, whereas the Orca has nothing that equals the potential of a carrier.
This will make the Orca an even more juicy target for gankers and as far I can see, have no positive side effect other than make it less painful to haul many battleships with rigs. I know people who have more than that in highsec.
One of the fewest reasons I haven't fully trained battleship hull *only cruiser and smaller hulls* is that I love to collect and have one of each etc., which would make it painful to haul so many battleships to just move. I also don't like to be tied down to one place at all. Even having two or three sets of battleships wouldn't appeal to me as a solution. (For Clarity, I've only trained fully for one battleship)
Example: Orca picks up a Rokh which is 486,000 m3 unpackaged. Then it can fill up the remaining 114,000 m3 with a Destroyer or whatever that fit.
Another benefit side effect would be a rise to a courier services for rigged Battleships in highsec. I mean who don't love some slaves to pull around your stuff? *kidding* You still have to pay of course.
Orcas can still function as a mini-freighter even without this small change, yet it could have a bigger role eve online if the change went live.
*Notice: This was wrote as an original post but seem to fit with the dev blog number 4 theme.*

I vote no on salvage conversion... why?
A wreck from a tech 1 ship should have a chance to drop an intact piece of salvage -Period.
Just because a ship is tech 2 doesnt mean it "blows up" differently.
Seriously, better ships better chances of finding intact salvage... but it should not be impossible to find intact salvage on any wreck.
I am for sized rigs... always found the one size fits all rig kinda odd.
