I just lost my ship in highsec to police.
Most random thing ever. Out of all the systems I go through, I go into ONE highsec system and boom socket closed.
Friggin annoying. And I have a backlog of ships to petition for other related issues, such as CONCORD pinging me in highsec and causing me to become globally flagged when I should just have aggression, etc.

Well, at least for me, socket errors are on my side of EVE. I mean, my modem takes a dump, not the eve server.

I spent 20 mins probing down a cosmic sig that had some prey in it, First gate he's not there, so I go to the second gate and come out of warp see his ship then BAM.... socket closed.

Socket Closed is the bane of my eve existence but I'm pretty sure it's on my end. Last weekend I was away from home and played eve over an extremely wonky Satellite connection, not once in many hours of play did I get the socket closed error (I did have about 5 second latency though but that's ok) yet when I came home and played EVE on my desktop with an ADSL connection I got two Socket Closed errors within the first hour of play. Suggests that it's on my end really.

Seems like an issue that is plaguing EVE atm (check the other post with over 1000 replies thats been going for months now)...this is quite possibly the worst thing that can happen in a game like EVE where loss is very real(considering the logs show nothing). I have been tracing EVE for the last week on pingplotter and all my packet loss is in Singapore (Singtel.com) from the same IP address continuously. You can reduce the MTU values on your modem to lower the packet size sent which does help stabilize the game but for me doing that messes up other connections so I can't really win.

Hey there :)
Please file a petition under Technical > Crashes/Lockups. You might also want to provide a tracert in your petition.

What system? Yulai by any chance? Or one of the other ones that has Concord sovereignity?Cos that's a well known thing.
if your sec status is low enough to be engaged by the faction police, then if you enter a concord system, it just so happens that their faction police are Concord.
So stay away from Concord soveriegnity systems, or improve your sec status.
Petitioning that one is just going to delay responses to other people's petitions.

I'm getting quite a few myself. Probably my connection, I am using Verizon's wireless EVDO internet.
When am I ever going to get DSL? I live in a town of over 2500 people, it's not like I'm out in the boonies

This is either a serverside issue or is an ISP connection issue.
- Sockets and connections lost have spiked significantly starting yesterday (7/7).
- Locality does not affect this - players from Texas, USA to Canada's Atlantic coast to mainland Europe have been similarly affected.
- Players I have spoken to say they aren't experiencing any other internet issues (slow internet, intermittent connection, etc.).
All I can say is keep submitting those petitions. ----------------------------------------------
Say "Amarr ships suk, lol." I dare you.

I, too, have been losing connection with the "socket" error displayed on both of my clients.

Edited by: Yo****aka Moromuo on 08/07/2009 23:50:04 I've noticed that, in my experience, those disconnections are usually accompanied with heavy packet loss at random times. It's become quite annoying, as I've already lost connection four times while acting as an FC just yesterday.
Another note: The packet loss is almost exclusively experienced further down the packet route, beyond my ISP. |

For me the issue seems to fall around the first hops in Europe that our ISPs' carrying networks route to.
From what I can tell (being a semi-networking savvy user), the routing tables they're using up there are rotated quite frequently for data load balancing and QoS purposes, to the detriment of anyone that was transmitting/receiving data at the exact point in time that they performed a change of the nature.
This is when connecting from South Africa via either SAIX (South African Internet Exchange) or IS (Internet Solutions).
Anyone got a tracert monitoring app that'll retrace the route every few seconds and keep it logged in an easily navigable log type thingie? ---

I would assume, as some other people already said, that this is some compability issue.
And this will never ever get fixed.
This bug been around for months now I think actually over a year. So, either ccp don't care about it or they don't know how to solve it.
So we will have to live with it dudes.

I bolded the "WHAT THE HELL" part, If you need to petition that much then you're probably doing something wrong.
