Particularly my children.
I have been. What I've been thinking is how sad it is that I may never be able to show them this game that I love.
What will I say when they take off their teardrop shaped blinky-lights VR space helmets, thus returning from whatever fully immersive impossible future gamescape they favour and ask me: "What were games like in your day?"
I'll be able to show them and say: "This is Tetris and this is Pac-Man. I played these back before people had video games in their own homes (Yes, it's true!). I walked down to the corner store and would stand in line with all the other children waiting to put coins into a game machine the size of a personal transporter booth." (Though honestly, I am sure that those two games will continue to get ported and rehashed forever, never dying in the same way the Beatles will never go away.)
I'll be able to show them and say: "This is Zork. It's the first game I ever played in my own home. It was the only game that came with the Commodore 64 that your grandfather bought for work. No Billy, there weren't 63 earlier Commodores. The 64 was how much memory it had. No, not terabytes, kilobytes."
I'll be able to show them and say: "This is Super Mario Brothers. This is when everything started to change. This was the first step towards video games being for everyone, just like movies and music and books. You remember movies right? They were those video games that were still around when you were little where you couldn't change anything, you just had to watch."
I'll be able to show them and say: "This is Quake. Believe it or not, these graphics blew everyone away."
I'll be able to show them and say: "This is NetHack. Yes, it seemed just as primitive when I first discovered it as it does to you know. But try it anyway, you'll be surprised."
I'll be able to show them and say: "Don't trust her, the cake is a lie..."
And then I'll have to say: "Here's the EVE login screen... Yep."
I'm not saying EVE is dying. It's so very demonstrably not. But it seems inevitable that it must die someday. And what will happen when CCP finally shutters its doors? A hundred thousand clients, but no server for them to suckle upon.
Just an idle thought. CCP please, set up some sort of trust now to ensure that, long after development ceases, the servers live on. I want to be able to log on and spin my Rifter for my children. Even if the entire population of New Eden is just myself and four russians suicide ganking each other over and over in the ghost town of Jita.

lol 'ghost town of jita'
if something like this were to happen, CCP should check the logs and go back to all the most memorable and painful losses Jita ever saw and put them in as landmarks descriptions similar to station wrecks in space you sometimes see. Please re-size your signature to a maximum of 400 x 120 with the file size not exceeding 24000 bytes.Applebabe

Hey that's not right, we're the MEMEME generation.
We'll not suffer our Grandkids to be cooler and have fancier gadgets and gizmos than us.
Plans are currently working perfectly since due to the direction we're taking the earth in our grandkids will probably be living in caves trying to light fires with sticks and rocks.

You offer the Amulet of Veldspar to Chribba... An invisible choir sings, and you are bathed in radiance... The voice of Chribba booms out: "Congratulations, mortal!" "In return for thy service, I grant thee the gift of Immortality!" You ascend to the status of Demigod...

Right. And instead of showing my kids Sonic the Hedgehog, I'll show them Sonic and the Secret Rings.
