Hey, marketeers and other pilots with an interest in Jita... have you noticed anything "different" lately? No, not that, I have ointment for that. I'm talking about smooooooth sailing through the tranquil seas of space. I'm talking about a lot of pilots, and not a lot of lag. It's nice, right?
Want to know more? CCP Explorer gives us the skinny on the CCP Core Technology Platform and how it's making life in New Eden a lot nicer and a lot more lag-free. Read all about it here.

Awesome. I'm continually amazed at the lengths CCP goes to in fixing existing processes that have performance issues. In my experience, most game developers would simply say 'It's because there are so many players in the same place' and leave it at that.
Keep up the great work. --------------------------------------

Nice upgrades
Sadly I suspect that the pod pilots will soon swamp your new upgraded Jita, so I hope your working on making Jita able to handle 2,000 concurrent pilots ASAP. --

Originally by: CCP Fallout ....have you noticed anything "different" lately?
Yes. I went on a shopping trip to Jita recently and was so impressed by the lack of lag with 1000+ players, that I came back to my latest home system and attempted to talk it up in local. I noticed the inventory related performance improvement immediately after the latest Apocrypha update. The noted performance improvements were all seat-of-the-pants assessments which I could not demonstrate as well as the pretty line charts. The charts definitely confirmed what I had noticed. Thank you.
Naysayers suck.

Yeah ... about that ...
In all seriousness, kudos to the dev team.

1,400 peops and no lag. Thats really awesome.
One thing that does concern me though.
Theres an RL concept that the more roads you build to relive congestion the more cars will be used on those roads, once again restoring the congested state.
Its good that 1,400 players can be on the same node , but wont this just encorage more jita usage as its now running smooth.
Can we expect 1,5K 1,6K or more players to now turn up in Jita, especially as eve subscribtions grow and grow.
At some point in the future the Jita handling of the core will be perfection. If it is not close to perfection allready.
At that point no more performance will be possible and the ever increasing jita hordes will return jita to a state of lag :(
Isnt there something you can do, like increased taxation at busy stations that will help to spread the horde out over multiple nodes.
I think you are fighting a losing battle , you may have won this round , but my Money is on The Jita horde to win in the end.

Nice improvements, especially considering that you have to deal with quite a bit of legacy code. I bet you ran into the occassional hardcoded weirdness with "Oh my god never change this again!!!!" comments in 11th century ancient Icelandic somewhere along the way.

All new technology we develop that can benefit more than one project is added to the CCP Core Technology Platform.

We are still exploring various game design changes, some of which mimic RL solutions such as taxation of busy areas encouraging players to seek out less busy space. I would emphasise that nothing has been decided yet and we are not implementing any such changes at this time.

I think he means the Holy Grail of giving BPOs and BPCs different colours to make the easily distinguishable.

Edited by: Erik Talon on 10/07/2009 19:09:38 I believe the BPC/BPO issue that he is refering in to is the diffculting in telling the difference between them from the icon...
Anyway, Greet job on the core recoding. Looking forward to the future and more fixes and expansions.

Ah, sorry, no, we are not planning to do that. We still consider the performance impact too great to implement that feature.

Why didn't you just to invert the tachyon beam through the deflector array, and use that to harmonize the holodeck with the subspace anomaly?
That always seems to work. á ----------------------------------------- "Kill a man one is a murderer; kill a million, a conqueror; kill them all, a God." -- Jean Rostand |

Because that will create a quantum resonance in the flux capacitor, taking Tranquility's DB offline.

Catering to the numerous lemmings in Jita is all fine and dandy, but does it allow for more pew?
More specifically, will you be moving systems/nodes around to allow for the FW areas (or at least the heavy action areas) to be buffed?

You can bypass that by sheathing the flux capacitor with a tinfoil hat.

I don't mean to complain, but is the "corification" to blame for the drastic loss of performance in the In-game Browser?
Prior to the Quantum Rise expansion (I think), I had been working on in-game tools for my corp and alliance. I placed the development of those tools on hold due to the IGB performance loss (even a simple static page with hardly any content takes at least 30 seconds to load)
Is there any activity regarding addressing these issues? (I know there is a rather large "petition" in the Tech forum to replace the IGB. I'd be content to just have it work halfway decent as it used to.)

There is also the problem of loading 50000 bpc/bpo and sort them via the science and industry tab. The only realistic solution right now would be using jetcans to sort bpo and bpc. Which do you prefer better UI or sort through hundred of jetcans?
While I would love to be able tell different between bpc/bpo. Why would the performance impact be bad without going into it too much?

No performance has been lost on this process. It has either stayed the same or improved.

The Inventory System is highly scalable but also very generic. So for each blueprint item it only stores the type of the blueprint, but not BPO vs. BPC or the levels. That information is stored in different tables based on the itemID and we don't want to query those tables every time a hangar is opened. Rather we only query them when you specifically a show info on the blueprint or when we need this information. This request has been noted and we will implement it when we find a suitable solution that performs well.

Think you could find any other places to jam 'corification' or 'corified' into that devblog?
When you have to invent new words to describe what you're doing, you're either doing something really really awesome, or really really stupid.
Luckily, CCP is doing it the awesome way.
