Some of us are "blessed" with silly names we might not like too much (anymore), either because we were dumb/drunk when making a char, or if we bought a char (like this one, I did not make the stupid name myself! :p ).
Why not introduce a method to rename your character, for a real life money fee like certain other MMO's do? I realize this could be used for people to avoid old bad reputations, so add a tab to your character screen, or even have it show on the first page you see when you show info on a char, and have the old name listed there in big capital letters, for everyone to see. This way a scammer or corp thief will still be easily spotted. CCP make more money from selling renaming, and players are happy. Win/win? You could put a limit like on attributes reset, and make this a once per year, or even once in a lifetime option.

Sounds like a decent idea, but you'd have to be pretty damn sure that the old name is easily identifiable. And make the fee like...I dunno, 30-40 euro or something, so it is not too cheap and easy.

Even though my name is awesome as it is, I would not mind this option. Would be nice.

yes, a renaming feature would be very useful. I cant imagine any reason against this, except for bad reputations, where you can remark all old names in the char info page.

No! Live with your actions, including that drunken moment when you created your character.
Even if the old names are listed as part of the character sheet it will be damn easy to hide among the 500.000 or so characters in game.

so? a scammer or corp thief will simply not use his char anymore and make/buy a new one, why wouldnt he?
the people who need to rename their chars do it because they dont like the/want a new name simple as that

What about having the "Previous Aliases" on their Character's page?
When you type their old name in the search function box, there'll be a page or tab called "People with this previous alias", followed by when they changed their name. So you can always pull someone up even though they changed their name.
It sounds really good and you can leave your old name behind e.g. Storm Templar to something less geeky or something.

No. Having previous names and displaying them with a character's info is all o.k., but it should not be searchable and the player must have an option to hide his previous names, or else he may never get rid of an old name. -- "Smoke me a kipper. I'll be back for breakfast." - Ace Rimmer |

Seriously, did you think before you wrote that? Edited by: Phil MacMannon on 17/07/2009 17:06:50 Yes, the old name would be easily identified on the character sheet, perhaps even searchable (should be). I doubt most players would want a to allow a complete anonymous char name change. You should not be able to escape a bad reputation, so what people have suggested here could work.

Step 1: Scam corp/alliance/individual for billions Step 2: Change name to completely avoid all repercussions/tarnished reputation ... Profit!
Rinse repeat.
A definite no on this one
If there was a way to still be able to identify peoples old name, like a line under show info that said "Previously known as xxxx" then this might be ok, but just a strait up name change would be bad.

I support this. As long as it's fairly expensive so people don't do it too often.

Easy solution to that one, just set really low standings towards the scammer and you'll be able to identify him :)
It's probably more likely that he buys a new character for the billions he scammed and starts all over again, or just starts a new character.
