This may seem like a trivial matter, but i feel like EVE would benefit if people stopped using the regular MMO terminology in an MMO where regularity isn't the norm.
Calling people noob, while annoying as hell to me to begin with, doesn't really fit EVE.
I suggest rookies.
It fits the lore, the style and still has that "message" in it, while being a bit more "adult" then the "noob lol" spam.
Other suggestion would work too, but i believe tere already are angel rookies etc in the game, so why not.
EVE is special, but the players should always try to make it stand out.

Nah, don't think i've ever been called that 'cause i hide my mistakes so we...i mean...i don't do mistakes
Just dislike the noob word, mostly due to it beig a flamatory word and secondly 'cause it just doesn't fit in the demi-god-pod-pilot-space-thing.

Yes, EVE is special, and a lot of the players are special, short bus special.
I agree that 'noob' is synonamous with insulting someone, but the kind of people who do that wont be persuaded round, as they like the 'in your face im better than you' feeling hiding behind an internet connection can give them.
I like rookies, as it ties in with the Rookie Ships already in game.

Aye, newbie is a far better word where noob seems more like an insult, but the point i was making is that EVE players should start creating a "new" way of saying things since EVE is a bit off the beaten path of regular MMOs.

I have always been using newbie and not noob in EVE. In other games I sometimes use noob though.

A few years ago the user title for people with less than 64 posts over at hardforum was "Stank Cheese". Maybe we can use that instead of noob?

noob and newb are two totally different things.
This link should help you distinguish between them.

From what I've seen the only people actually calling other people noobs are teethless carebears or people too scared to undock because of the shuttle outside. The people with the guns don't have to resort to namecalling after all So it does serve a function. --------------------------------------------------- Recruitment thread |

This :).
Tho I seldom use these words. I don't like to talk in local or feel the urge to insult my customers of pre-emptive salvaging.
I have a personal liking toward older little used words tho, the regular "smack talk" is so braniless and childish its not even fun, but there are a lot of immature people here in EVE. As is evident from al the commnets I do see in local :P.

You know that the word progressionw as:
New Bee Newbee Newbie Newb Noob
[Noop, Nup, similar ar used, too] So saying "Noob" is just a 'handicapped persons' way of saying Newbie and thats the only thing that makes it an insutl. Being called "newbie" by a 'handicapped person'

Well, basically, yeah. If we could have 40k rp people instead of how chats and things are now, i think it would up the games immersion quite a bit.
Though with EVE the immersion is easy to explain because it's the future.

I shall henceforth refer to the starting ship as "Rookie Ship" rather than "Noob ship". I hope I haven't hurt any feelings up until this point.

That's actually better then rookie, it doesn't imply anything on the skill level of the meat
