First this is not a whining thread but rather a "wtf" thread lol. Here's the thing, I got a pos and I've been operating it for the last couple of months so I know the prices. Well I got a small one and I alone pay the fuel for it. Since I do a bit of inventions and missions the fuel pays by itself and got way enough to even get profit on the side. So its positives.
Second, I've been looking for some capital blueprints and what do you need to build one. OMFG, there cheap to build. Which is not suprising when you hear that alliances have 100's of them on the side.
So here's my opinion I would say and my questions : my opinion is that pos is very cheap and solo operable, is that normal ? I dont think so... I dont think a single man should take care of the fuel cost by itself ?? I mean, its 50m per month for a small pos... I do 50m in a couple of hours of gameplay...thats way less than 1 month. My question on this would be is it suppose to be like that in the first place ? if so, I personally think its inbalanced.
for the cap. ok ok, im not an expert in this field since I got no cap and I barely got the skills, but upon first look, its way to freakin cheap when you look at it globaly.

If everyone can get a POS, it can't be imbalanced
Not everyone wants a POS though. They have very limited usefulness, and only really to research and industry people.
Unless you are fighting for sovereignty, a POS is not as useful in PvP, though some people do set them up just to have a "safe" base with a maintenance bay.

useful or not, 50m, a couple of missions and some inventions here and there...voila, all done for the month...doesn't that seem fast ..well imbalanced ?

Fuel cost is not the real cost of a POS, it's player time spent hauling fuel from market to the tower (and the risk associated with that hauling in lowsec and 0.0).

This. It might feel too easy in hi sec if you bought the corp with needed standings, but overall from industry standpoint they are fine. You can run it solo fine. And 5 guys with 3 beers each can remove it as easily as you run it regardless what kind of armaments you stick at it if we are talking about smalls. Takes some more effort for larger ones ofc - both removal and running them.
And as far as capitals go - yeh, if you talk about carriers their hulls are ~700 mil or so. Plus then ~300 mil in fighters and few hundred in fittings. Dreads are approx 1.4 bil to build and somewhere around 300 mil to fit in most cases. It's not the "low cost" tho that makes 0.0 entities to have fleets of 100+ dreadnaughts at their disposal. It's the fact that without dreads one does not hold 0.0 territory so they would have those fleets also if they would be 5 bil per unit or whatever. Same as titans are relatively common nowdays in 0.0 regardless of costing approx 80 bil / unit.

True about the cap, its getting common. But here's my questions on that.
From what CCP says...and what the description or image they gave, shouldn't the POS be a corp thing. because if it is, somethings wrong, 1 man can run that thing way to easily. zero, low or high sec...doesn't really matter.
for the capital ships ? isn't it suppose to be high priced ships cause I get the feeling there not anymore.
Blame that on the territory they hold, farmers, 23h/7 of mining.. I don't know, its just getting ridiculus

Edited by: NETCODE on 21/07/2009 03:02:30 firstly i think you are talking about empire space and not 0.0
empire is safe and easy. 0.0 is different. you have to haul the pos gear out there, anchor when its safe, then run fuel out each month or every second month depending on how u do it. i know from myself running two 0.0 pos's that its not as easy as it seems. i pvp in one region and pve in another. i have to trek back and forth, light cyno's move jump freighters about running fuels etc. so no its not as clear cut as u may think.
finally i know a guy in 0.0 who has 18 personal pos's running moon mining. imagine the logistics in that
time + effort = reward

running 10 poses myself, it is a pretty daunting task.
stockpiling fuel is very important.

18 + a 4 region wide trade route if its the same guy.
Solo.

When we are talking about 0.0/low sec it's not the running that is the problem for solo guy . It's keeping it intact. In 0.0 neutral POS'es are removed on regular basis ASAP. Shoot first, talk later or never. In low sec there is many organizations that like to yarr and who kinda like to ask for "donations" to overlook your hardware in there and who are quite capable of rendering it to space dust unless you have a lot of hairy friends who are also facinated by the bright flashes in space.
