Edited by: Mumbling Mac on 20/07/2009 21:39:36 As a newbie who'd just had a his first decent size mining haul nicked by some git I invested in a secure container.... then like a muppet I got that stolen (I think ... didn't see it happen). Checked some wiki's and it says that it shows with red lights when anchored .... mine was showing green .. d'oh !
I have anchoring level 1, I used the launch for self option, I set a password on the container AFTER dropping it, the system was a 0.7 rating.
That's all i can find ... what did I miss ?
(I presume they aren't easy to shoot or what would be the point of locking them ? I was attacked my a Serpentis Initiate but can't believe he could have damaged it.)

After launching it you have to right-click it and select 'anchor'.

Like Estel says the first thing to do when you launch it (you are in .7 or below right?) is right click and select anchor. You'll see something that says "this will take 60 seconds."
At this point I always set the password, name it, and bookmark it.

but if you don't anchor it properly, it's fair game for someone to scoop.
If you can't afford a new can, travel to a 0.8, 0.9 or 1.0 system. People drop cans there all the time and think they've anchored them. What they've actually done is provide you with a free one. Just scoop cans in - if you can't get the right size, sell them and put the ISK towards the one you want. If you get lucky, you might just snag exactly what you want. It's a perfectly legitimate exercise and there is no criminal flagging for scooping unanchored cans. Un-anchored cans in 0.8+ are a blight on the landscape and contribute to lag, so you're actually doing everyone a favour.
(just make sure it's a secure container and you scoop the whole can - you don't want to nick stuff from a jet-can - that will get you flagged) ______________________ Isn't it time you learned to fight back? Agony Unleashed Home of the PvP University.

Really? They're pretty cheap. How much are you paying for yours? ______________ Some men aren't looking for anything logical, like money. They can't be bought, bullied, reasoned or negotiated with. Some men just want to watch the world burn. |

I'd dropped to about 40k cash ... surprising how fast you do recover the money from a few mission.
New container dropped AND ANCHORED this time :)

Wow glad I spotted this - I was previously just chucking things out by jettisoning then coming back for it later, no anchor or secure haha !

You can't secure things you jettison, which creates a flimsy jetcan. You can have 40 of these, but they expire after 2 hours *poof* and you can only create one every 3 minutes.
You can launch a deployable container (for self or for corp) though, and anchor those. You have to buy containers from NPC sell orders. They are quite plentiful and the price is pretty much the same everywhere. Players sometimes sell for less than NPC prices to get rid of them.
An anchored container lasts for 30 days, but refreshes whenever it is opened.
A giant secure container is 3,000 m3 but holds 3,900 m3. The smaller deployable containers are not as popular.

Yeah thats what I was doing - just leaving a jettisoned load of Ore in space and hoping no-one nicks it whilst I went nipped home for my Hauler.....
Given that a GTC is 3000, and my Iteron holds 3000, I'm presuming the advantage here is I gain 900 space by hauling back the GTC ? And the fact I can mine faster (ATM) in my smaller ship...
Or am I missing something here ?

I moved to the secured containers after the very first time I tried to jettison cargo and come back later someone nicked it .. ho hum.
Seems to be easier just to leave the secure canister where you put it and drag cargo out of it to your iteron as it's easier / faster than redeploying, setting a passsword and re-anchoring the canister.
Guess that's why the 0.7 asteroid belts are full of them.

That's called jetcan mining. I did it too until I got a second account to haul (have an Orca now).

That is correct. You gain 30% for every GSC (I have 20x GSC in my Orca's cargohold, which is about as many as I want to bother with though I can fit more).
I usually use 4 GSC in an Industrial. The Amarr Bestower with 4 GSC is over 16k m3, and takes 1 day to train.

Ok thanks, thought it was too simple when it really is !
I wont be getting a second account though, so at some point a partner will be sought I think...
Thanks for tips +1
