I'm a new player and thought i'd get myself a nice boost with running two accounts for mining etc. I've run into a problem tho. Got the two game installations saved to two different harddrives, but it seems it saves settings in documentsfolder or something, as it just remembers the latest setting regardless of install used.
Any of you experienced boxers know how to counter this?

Cat's correct. In order to save different settings, you need to save the install files for each account in separate install folders.
The good thing on this is that you can just copy your original eve files into a separate folder, you don't actually have to run the install twice. I have my files saved as:
c:\program files\ccp\eve c:\program files\ccp\eve2
Your desktop launch shortcut from your original install points to wherever you have your original install (in my case that's the C:\program files\ccp\eve folder). Once you get the copy done, you need to go in and manually make a second desktop shortcut for the launcher in the new copy you made (in my case the launcher located in c:\program files\ccp\eve2).

Are you sure you are not running the two accounts from the same install.
What i do is copy the install folder and the shortcut. Change the folder where the shortcut is pointing to the copy. The only thing is that you have to start all your settings and overview settings on the new account from scratch.
If you dont have immensely complex fleet ops overview tab settings it is a matter of minutes to set them up again as on the first account.

Junctions work.
You need 2 separate install but you also need to use /end /LUA:OFF at the end of your shortcuts so the settings are actually saved in the different folders.

with junctions you do not need 2 installs - one will do you can link a diectory to the basic install, then you only have to patch once

Why do you even need junctions to begin with?
One client installation with one single settings folder is perfectly capable of storing settings for several accounts. I have different interface colors, overview configurations and more, for each account, all running from the same folder. |

Originally by: Jana Clant Why do you even need junctions to begin with?
When you change settings affecting resolution, fullscreen, sound, etc - these affect all the clients you launched from the same****cutable. Whichever client wrote its configuration out last will usually "win". I expect that there is a much higher chance of corrupting the cache when you have multiple clients using the same settings files.
Per-character settings are not affected.
The simplest option is to copy + paste the EVE folder. Junctions solve the disk-space consumption issue as well as the updating-multiple-clients issue.

Edited by: Kaylan Jahlar on 23/07/2009 15:45:26 I use a Ramdisk of 512Mb with NTFS Links to share my EVE Installation in 2.
My main eve installation is in a folder called EVE\Shared. I then have 2 folders at the same level that are in fact NTFS Links pointing to EVE\Shared. They are called EVE\Instance\1, and EVE\Instance\2
I then create 2 shortcuts. One pointing to EVE\Instance\1\eve.e x e, and the other to EVE\Instance\2\eve.e x e
When you start each instance, it will create its own set of settings in the EVE folder under AppData (in your profile folder).
If you want to speed this up, you can use a Ramdisk (which I do) to redirect the AppData EVE folder on it so all the settiongs are always in the RAM. Much faster.
I can run 2 EVE windows at 1680x1050 in windowed mode and I get a decent 60FPS average in both (with every setting and effects set to HIGH).
I have 4Gb of RAM on a Intel Core 2 Quad @ 2.83Ghz processor and a BFG GeForce 8800GT OC 512Mb card. |

there is *some* benefit to two copies and that is having them on separate hard drives however there is convergence with the settings locations.
As people have mentioned, you can use junctions to fix that.
I have 4 copies of EVE on my games machine (Its a Windows box, hell if I'm using it for anything BUT gaming ;0 ).
1 - Original / Clean Install 2 - Copy of clean install for main 3 - Copy of clean install for alt 4 - SISI version
If 2 or 3 diaf, I can easily restore from 1.
4 is pretty much wiped every time I connect to SISI as it gets patched that often, its not worth the pain of trying to keep up ;0

I take it using a Solid State Drive as a boot/Game drive would negate the need for Ram Disk? |
