So yeah, I recently signed up to play EVE after many years of playing other MMOs. And I have come to the conclusion that possibly the recent expansion was not as well thought as the game Devs may believe. I am not trying to be a care bear ,more so that a fresh set of eyes on the game. Graphically I think this game is one of the most attractive game out in the market, and for a game of this age kudos to CCP for keeping it so up to date.
The UI is well though out and I love the new implementations of the latest expansion, all but one thing though. I know a few people have already commented about this, is the warfare model. Still coming to terms with the mechanics of the game, I find it odd that there is still High Sec and Low Sec given now that any corp/alliance can declare war. I don't think that I will join a corp now, on the risk of being at war. Again, I am only writing this as someone who is new to the game.
Don't get me wrong, one of the factors that pulled me towards playing EVE was the factor of risk involved, I actually like the idea that once killed I have to start over. I though id start out mining, join a crop that does that, and keep out of people hair in high sec until ive got the basics, and then eventually expand out into low sec and try my hand at pvp. But again I have to factor in joining a corp, especially as a new player I now run the risk of never actually being able to enjoy the later stages ie. Bigger and better ships, more ISK than I can ever dream of. Being pod killed only 4 days into this game isn't my kind of fun, and not a reason from me to renew my subscription to the game.
And my last point is really the main point of this topic. Will I renew my subscription? At the moment I'm 50/50 on continuing my subscription. Maybe CCP is happy with the money they make at the moment, but I would maybe suggest that new players may not be renewing their subscriptions. Its a tough call.
A possible solution, like throughout history wars have been declared after an act of aggression. A simple solution, war can be declared only after an act of aggression has been committed by one party to another. Especially in High sec areas, I mean for real, there is no 'real' fun in a corp coming in from null sec and stopping a bunch on new players from progressing in the game. It is a serious 'turn off' as new player and the CCP Devs should rethink the whole warfare model. |

It's been like that for as long as I have played.
At least you have tried the game, and given it an honest shot. If you do quit, i will be willing to bet that a few months down the road, you will want to come back.
I used to think that being part of a corp would mean being at war all of the time. I found though, that isnt always the case. Sometimes war can be fun though. I would recommend joining a corp that would be willing to teach you about PvP and how to operate during a war. It definitely takes the scariness out of war. |

Sorry I thought the whole declare war thing was apart of the last expansion.
I just find it terribly annoying that war can be declared in high sec areas (whats the purpose of Concord now?), you would at least think there would be more rules behind the engagement process rather than "OI, you are funy looking, I'm declaring war on you" and bore people out of playing. I mean I can stay docked for months if a far superior force is outside the station waiting to gank me, super cool gaming experience CCP.
Although I figured that everyone will now have to roll and alt account and not join a corp to actually enjoy the game.
Also I may suggest people that have played for a while, go reroll a 14day trial or what ever, join a new corp that is jsut in its infancy and have war declared on that corp. You will do either one of two things. 1. thinks this is super cool and sit in dock all day learning skills you will never get to use, or 2. quit playing that account and go back to your main where you actually have a fighting chance....

I there, yes I guess it is a lack of knowledge on my part, only being a few days into this game. I would much appreciated it if you were hand down to me your vast knowledge in not being killed by a far superior force who are camping the station you am at. This would be great appreciated, as I would like to further my experience in the game. |

Newbie myself and I definetely will stay for a while - I have played Everquest2 since it started until this January, and this already was an huge game with lots to learn, but EVE beats it by a dozen - all the EVE-related internet sites have stuff to read to keep me occupied the next years. ;)
With my 14 days knowledge I dare to say that EVE pvp looks pretty balanced - much more then EQ2 at least. A higher level char at EQ2 would never have a chance against a lower level char, regardless of skill, but here a smaller ship can beat a bigger ship - so I don't think you are right to consider the "bigger ships" the goal or the "end game" of EVE. Just my 2 cent, ofc.
I do have a newbie question, though: Do you have the chance to NOT be in a corporation, like you say? I thought you always have to be in a corporation!?

I agree that it can be difficult. Though these new changes seem to make it a little less likely to be war deced for no/little reason. I could see it taking away any motivation to play if you have no interest in PvP.
I'm not an expert on wars, so it might be best to look up ways of lessening the effects of a war dec, here on the forums. I hear that moving to a new place to mine/misson can be effective. If that isnt something that interests you, you can always take a break until the war is done, and come back and continue where you left off. Though, I would suggest trying to fight back, if just for the experience, in cheap frigs or cruisers. You might find that you like it. If not, you can say that you gave Eve an honest chance. |

You ever want to learn how to swim you gotta get out of the kiddie pool.
Tips for avoiding a kill
1. Safespot several of your most used stations anywhere between 150 to 250 km out from the front door. This way you insta warp from undock immunity.
2. Keep local separate from your other channels and keep your eye on it. Red star means impending doom.
3. scanner - learn to use it
4. Don't mine during a war
5. Use Eve who and do a search on the corp decing you. Add every name to your contacts and put them on a watch list.
6. Jumpclones - learn it, use it, love it.

OP, please step down from the soapbox of 'try being a new player'. It is not as relevant as you think to these things. I started playing Dcember 1st, 2011. I am a new player.
As said before, war has always been able to be declared in Eve. It means that people can fight in high sec without suicide ganking for a certain amount of money. You may be horrified to find out that many people are complaining that war is not *too expensive*.
Also, joining a bunch of other newbies in a newbie corp is a terrible idea. Corps come and go for these reasons. There is so much to learn and do that finding experienced players and learning the game before you go off to form your own corp is a good idea. Then you learn things like how to defend yourself, how to make isk, how to play Eve and you are not stuck in a tiny window of things you are used to doing.
Eve is a big place. People don't have to be camped in their stations and 'stuck' because of a wardec. That is a choice they are making. A choice to be a victim. You don't have to PvP to not be a victim.
The first wardec for the new player is very scary. Then you get over it. It is only a limiting factor if someone chooses for it to be.
You want to get out of your station? First, have some insta undocks made. They are useful. Undock one day, while not at war, and let your ship drift past 150k from the station. Bookmark this. Poof. Next time you want to leave your station when camped, undock, hit the insta undock, and then go about your merry way.
Have more then one station with stuff at it. Have isk to buy new stuff. Go out and pewpew the people camping you. Now you can even hire mercs. There are lots of corps that will come pewpew for free because they like shooting people.
Make friends. Eve is not a solo game.
The chances of there being 50 people waiting to eat your 5 man corp is rather small. If it happens, you may want to look at your corp mates and wonder what they did.

I don't mean to be rude, but Pvp isn't balanced so to say, I mean a teir 1 frig won't beat a teir 3 frig with both the best pvp set up. That's what's happening to our corp at the moment. We're a corp of miners who were blackmailed into giving them 1 billion 1sk, and if we didn't they would declare war on us, which has happened. They have players with teir 3 ships, we have only mining equipment.
So we've resorted to sitting in hanger and skilling up, that's broken gamplay at it's finest |

I have no problem posting on my main also. The OP was more a comment from a new players perspective of the game, and what I see as a deterrent for new players like myself to continue playing the game. As I have mentioned earlier, I am considering not renewing my subscription, but I always like a challenge and am more than likely to continue playing the game.
Had I started playing this game 6 months ago, I'd probably not find myself making this post. Timing is everything and I have clearly decided to play this game at a point where it is more beneficial for a new player to play solo, corp free, rather than to join a corp early, make new friends and start enjoying the game.
PS the new inventory is fine, if not better than the 1000s of tab that you used to have open. |

The other trick is to get out fo station right before or right after downtime, likely hood is they won't be on yet or not n numbers to stop you and get out of the area or start looking for there stragglers to pick off in a guerilla campaign. Use cheap ships and learn from the PVP experience.
