I am really ****ed off at the way some mission tell you to leave high sec to do a mission in low sec. I got my first storyline in Balle and after a bit i get a mission for low sec in the chain. Feeling rather frustrated at even having to do this quest or lose faction standing i felt i was forced into doing this mission.
So i get to 0.4 and quickly warp to location kill the first set of pirates and then all of a sudden a ship warps in. Kills me and demands 10 million ISK from me or he pod kills me. So i tell him i am noob player and its my first time in low sec and ask him to give me a break as he already destroyed my Mymridon. He declines so i tell him to Get F***ed and do it.
CCP cheated me and made my gameplay miserable ,thank you very much. AND to the idiot called King Rothgar you made me feeling like i wanna leave EVE now.

Edited by: Seetha Shakuntala on 25/07/2009 07:34:12 Dude you are just a new player, you can't possibly lose most of your assets over one death. I think that was a good lesson for you, don't go low-sec if you can't handle it. High-sec is still quite profitable.

Instead of running away better to put tis lesson to good use, so it is not an experience you go through anytime soon

You won't lose faction standing if you don't accept a storyline mission. If you accept it and then fail or abandon the mission, it's a different story.
There are no circumstances where you *have* to do a mission in low-sec.

There is a warning message that pops up first time you go into lowsec. Once you read it and click OK to it you can't really blame CCP for spoiling your game. They tried to warn you.
You also have options of rejecting the mission, finding an agent that doesn't send you into lowsec, or simply adapting and learning to deal with lowsec.

To salvage this particular mission, try the following:
1. Fit as cheap a ship as can complete the mission 2. go to the gate leading to the low sec system. 3. log off and wait till downtime. 4. log in as soon as the server comes up 5. Open your directional scanner and set it to max range 360 degrees 6. jump through the gate and go to your mission 7. As soon as you enter the mission click the star gate you came in from and align to it. 8. As you run the mission click the scan button on the directional scanner repeatedly (at least once every 20 seconds) 9. If you see a ship on the directional scanner warp to that star gate and jump out of system, don't try again for at least 2 hours.
In all likelihood, at that time of day, 9 will not happen.

Edited by: King Rothgar on 25/07/2009 10:23:49 Hello again Leafdag. 10M isk or I'll pod you on the forum.
Seriously though, that's what happens in low sec. There are greater rewards there but it's also basically a pvp arena. If you aren't willing to fight or take a chance, then don't go there. You don't have to do storylines. View the mission briefing before accepting. If it sends you to low sec, think carefully if it is worth the risk before accepting. If it is not, then just ignore the mission. You can't reject them directly but if you ignore it for 1 week it will be canceled without any standing loss. You will still receive additional storylines every 16 missions so it doesn't hurt anything to just leave it.

Very interesting "lesson" to a newcomer indeed. Excellent way to teach a newcomer to stay away from lowsec entirely. Now to just wait for the inevitable next episode of "Waah ! Not enough people in lowsec ! CCP, nerf empire !" supplied by ganker nerds. (of course, if ganker nerds had a pair, they'd realize/admit that stuff like this is what keeps people away from lowsec, but like everyone knows, having a pair is antithesis to ganker nerd-ness).
If ganking and podding newcomers is supposed to be gankers' way of teaching people about "lowsec being harsh", then they shouldn't whine about lack of people in lowsec. I mean, whine more than they already do.

it warned you, coming here for sympathy when it is your own fault doesn't work, next time don't ignore the warnings. It is also clear that you knew the risk but yet you gambled and lost.

Congratulations - you have learned in the best possible way that the line in the mission description displayed in red about low-sec warning is worth paying attention to, and that the rules are a bit different in low-sec ... :) . "Out of the good of evil born, Came Uriel's voice of cherub scorn" |

"Hi, I see you've stumbled upon low sec, you young scamp! Lets take a quick tour around the system whilst I show you how we normally deal with interlopers into our humble system. Here you see a hulk being ransomed. There you see an ishtar being ransomed. Ah, and here we have some scallywag in a carrier being blown up, because its fun. What were you here for? Oh, to mission.. why by all means, as this is your first time here, go to young man! Just be careful, next time we won't be so nice. Fare well!"

I'll be venturing into low sec space soon, to find out what it's all about (as a noob).
If my ship is platinum insured though, and I have a clone that covers my SP, what is the worst that will happen??
The OP says that his ship kill AND pod kill means it made his "gameplay miserable".
I know that in Eve, death is a little more serious than in other MMO's, but how serious is it if you're insured and cloned ok??

exactly the right frame of mind to play eve properly!
As long as you are mentally prepared to lose your pixels, it really doesn't bother you when you die. You just renew your insurance and get in another ship and try again.
Remember, as long as you only fly what you can afford to lose, you will find fun in pvp. Even if you lose, you gain xp in how to deal with the experience.
best post so far

Unless you're bubbled, getting podded is entirely your fault. Pods have instant align time ; therefore, if you know you are going to lose your ship, find a celestial or gate if you are really brave/in lowsec, and keep your cursor hovered above its bracket/position on the overview. As soon as you are relieved of your ship, you will lose all targets and selections . Start spam clicking that celestial's bracket/entry upon destruction of your ship. When it is selected, target and warp. It takes less than a second for this all to happen, depending on server lag etc.
So, if you ever get podded and you aren't bubbled, you did something wrong. I understand that this is your first time experiencing the better parts of EVE Online, but next time you know :P

Maybe I am missing something here, I see allot of threads about losing the ship and losing the pod, so what you lost both. You have insurance and you should have an updated clone, you get your ship back and all you need do is replaced the things you lost.
I have lost both a 2 times now, you have loyalty points built up from running missions to replace your implants and continue playing.
Its a game, if you have not learned to survive in the first few weeks of playing then maybe this is not the game for you.
Just a thought.

There seems to be storylines now that specifically tell you to go to justabout the nearest lowsec it can find yeah, but if you think you'res is bad, I once got transport 40,000 m3 of huge containers to Tama, because that'd worth 5 mill...

Thats the case ~70% of the time.
You may find your gui locks you out from selecting something to warp to in the 0.7 seconds it takes a frigate with 2000 sensorn strength to target you.
If you have never had this happen to you, you just got lucky your opponents didn't bring a fast locking inty to the fight.
EVEN in low sec, an inty can lock you and warp off to safety while your pod spins out the warp scram timer.

Best way to get out into low sec or 0.0 is to get friends. Get in a corp or alliance already established and they can show you the ropes and all the tricks to not getting killed (and hopefully to getting some kills of your own).
Contrary to popular belief, low skill point players can still make a difference in pvp. A pvp fleet usually has a number of specialist roles some of which can be done in cheap ships with very little sp, though you'll lose a lot at first to noobish mistakes
As for the mission, it kinda sucks but the people who say you should have rejected it are right. Lesson learned but isn't the end of the world, and you can always recover isk and standings (though Eve is the kinda game designed so that it is possible to go backwards, if not in skillpoints (unless you get repeatedly podded) then in isk, so be prepared for it to happen again!)
Some other tips for checking a low sec system before you jump is to check the number of pod kills and ships killed on the map. If you can avoid it, the first system after high sec is usually the most dangerous, and treat everyone in local as hostile. Ideal world there is no one in system when you do the missions.
But as said before, best way is to get in with the guys doing the killing (though maybe not this particular group )

I don't understand how people get killed so often in low sec missions. I've been missioning in a low-sec border system WITH my AGENT in low sec and haven't gotten warped in on during a mission. The only times I get killed in low sec is at belts or gates if I'm not watching.
Plus, there is a TON of low sec that is just empty. I went through like 5 systems last night, ratting each one and I saw one other person. And the bounties on low sec rats are awesome, I might just rat from now on instead of mission.
