Edited by: codemaster28 on 29/07/2009 23:15:20 Sorry to be the odd one out here but i didnt like it, the reasons why.
Wasnt exactly EPIC The graphics were ok but nothing we havent seen before. The sound was at best very poor ( nothing tied in with the vid, the voice over was standard, the list can go on here, oh and before i get shot down in a firey ball i use a m-audio 1010LT delta going into a 19" rack audio processor via a mixer & sennheiser headphones) The story was very short lived not enough time to capture the imagination.
Edit :- ( direct style lift from Call of Duty World at War intros???)

Awesome video. Sums it all up nicely. I've shared it on FB to spread the love.
Helping miners: What're you all talking about? I helped a miner earlier today, and he actually thanked me for it. Imagine that. Unfortunately he didn't have a big fleet of buddies for me to link up with, but hey, I keep flapping my little wings... fly butterfly, fly damn you! ;) Black out. /EOL |

Those rokhs are from last fight of Against ALL Authorities vs CoW in the last alliance tournament. Also at least 2 of scenes were recorded from AAA roaming gangs. The video is nice, but it's a lie. Sorry CCP. ---- start cut here ---- Evil Thug`s alt. ----- end cut here ----- |

Petitecailleperdue Commented on the video on YouTube: "300 000 players in 230 countries... our planet only has 195 countries. Where did they find the other nationalities???"
Google, Wikipedia, and Yahoo seem to support that there are between 193 and 203 countries, depending on whose government you talk to. Am I missing something here or does Iceland recognize 230 countries?

I got taught there were 250+ but my google-fu seems to disagree with me
The country-thing is a bit difficult. Not all "countries" are accepted as independent countries by the world, so the number of total countries varies depending on which country you ask. ----------------------------------------------

I shamelessly used that to finally get a certain friend to sign up (he was impervious to zomgEVEissexy-talk). Thank you very much for making a trailer which shows alot more than just pretty graphics. :3
Since someone mentioned it: I rejoice at the thought of having a futuristic user interface which does not feel like doing office work. Can someone from CCP poke the UI dev, put on a puppy-eyes look and say "I can has purrty UI, pleez?"? That would be mighty awesome. :O

I find it unlikely that Iceland would recognize between 27 and 37 more countries than the 191 other members of the United Nations recognize.
I do agree that the voice of Aura would have been much better. I hope the actress isn't asking for an outrageous pay increase.

I don't see why several people here are so cynical about the game and the scenario presented. It mirrors almost exactly what happened to me a few nights ago. I came across a miner who was new to the game and was overmatched by several pirates. I used my destroyer to take them out, and he thanked me for saving him. Now, he wasn't in any position to invite me to join a corporation or anything as he was so new, but still the scenario was very similar to the one presented in the video.

Originally by: Istvaan Shogaatsu Ehh... visually, it's a splendid video, but I dislike the breaking of the fourth wall. I far prefer the storyline-oriented trailers we get with major expansions. The voiceover was also average at best; it's like whoever made the video asked the guy in the next cubicle to read off a script into a mic.
It's great for giving newbies a clearer picture of the game, however - one thing I would have done, is showing the newbie attacking some super-veteran player in a battleship, to dispel the rumour that newbies can't catch up to vets in Eve. Not my favourite overall, but still pretty to look at.
Lets say this is you, one lone poster on the forums.
You go to Fanfest.
A man walks up to you.
He introduces himself as the man who did the voiceover in the Butterfly trailer.
Mentally, you raise shields.
But there are no shields in real life, and his punch connects with your stomach.
You came prepared for this eventuality, and grin as you pat the hockey padding underneath your shirt.
He implies Canadian beer is sub-par to American beer.
You point out the fresh, cool taste and more aggressive alcohol content.
He begins to cry.
Then reaches for a tissue.
Which is in his pocket.
That is stitched to his pants.
Using thread.
Made from natural fibers.
Then he remembers your post, and makes fun of the French-Canadian spell-checking.
You make fun of his hair, and he resumes crying.
Welcome to EVE Online. Where the forums are 95% of the fun.

Guess I'm an idiot then, several times over. Just because that's how some folks operate doesn't mean we're all like that. I swear though, some folks just can't enjoy something without a gripe... bloody wet blankets all.

Back when I was a noob flying something horrible like a rocket + railgun Scorpion with civ shield boosters and cargo expanders I got tackled by a pirate in low sec. I spent the next 5 minutes flying away from him shooting him to no effect, and he spent the next 5 minutes shooting me to no effect.
I bawled in local for help (lol 2005), and in flew a guy who chased off that nasty pirate and let me go free. (Thanks Zardust - you're still set to +10 )
While Zardust probably wouldn't have joined up with our mining corp, I got a taste for blood and later joined a pirate corp myself so I could go around kicking people in the face. Joined Coreli corp and amongst others shot at the then smallish Snigg corp in Curse, and some RA guys as well.
From Coreli came Corelum Syndicate, space in Fountain, deals with BoB, flying with the Mercenary Coalition to pay back D2 for coming down and kicking sand in our faces, joining BDCI, Tortugalol and several other rofls, and now AAA; once a sworn enemy of pretty much every corp/alliance I have ever been in.
Zardust is now Finfleet - so god knows what story he has from that point on. Snigg.. well they sure ain't just some pirate corp anymore that's for sure. This **** just doesn't happen in any other game, and this vid gets that point across perfectly. Epic work guys!

While I admit that the whole "come join our fleet" bit challenged my suspension of disbelief (someone would have shot him for being neutral), it does hang together if you assume that Mr Rifter was already set blue before he encountered Mr Miner.

I would like to see this on TV/Cinema advertising however, before increasing the numbers so significantly, CCP needs to improve their internal processes to deal with issues quicker with the subscribers they already have. (eg: 1-2 weeks for some petition responses!)
Good work on the video CCP, please give us more graphics options soon :)

IMHO the video needs about three little things to make it WAY better and WAY more believable:
#1 - Once our "hero" was done with the pirates, he would then have turned around and ransomed/attacked such a plum target for himself. Yes, I have seen this happen MUCH more often in Eve rather than someone actually "helping". I'm not saying people don't EVER help each other out in low/no sec. It is simply VERY RARE, for obvious survival and profit reasons.
#2 - The devs could have actually shown some respect to the paying subscribers and have this available for us to download off of "our" own websites rather than have to schlep it out with everyone else out in YouTubeland. Along with this some high res versions would have been nice, as is "standard" for all the promos from other major MMOs now days I might mention.
#3 - The devs could have gotten off of their collective arses and actually been able to show something about WiS in a major new promo release if they were actually in any hurry to work on it rather than continue beating a cash-cow (namely Eve) to fund their upcoming releases and projects.
Overall, I would say that the video rates a 6.3 out of 10. I gave it such high marks because at least they are trying something new with their spin-doctoring instead of trying to get us to swallow the same old over-exaggerated-hype that they have been feeding us for the last 6 years.
Ok, ok, enough badgering the promo makers. Back to my hole.
Peace Everybody.

Edited by: Tiny Tove on 30/07/2009 09:54:54 Slightly over plays things a little. Rare outcomes individually may be considered as unique, but so many rare outcomes occur one cannot consider a rare outcome to be anything special. The fact is, due to the linearity of time, something must occur next, if that turns out to be you diverting a butterfly from it's effect, then so be it. You can never prove it, and you cannot decide to alter the butterflies yourself, since whatever you do is as likely to be predetermined as not.
As sales fluff goes, it's at least 50% more truthful than the next leading advert, but at the same time it tells the thinker that it doesn't matter if you play Eve or not. Posting it on Facebook and Youtube is a good way of avoiding Thinkers though.
Marketing win.

Finally a video that works as a tool in my favor whenever I want to explain to someone why I'm hooked to EVE, or when I feel like comparing EVE to other MMORPGS.
As for the video itself, I've found the narrator to be perfect for the job. Clear and steady voice which passes the point across, easy to follow and even though I do like Aura's voice it mostly has an effect into my slubering mode and libido.. not good for my short attention span.
The post processing effects on the video smell like Iris put his finger on them (I could be wrong though) and I'd have to say that the EVE graphics engine surely needs DoF (Depth of Field). It just looks soooo cool!
Finally, does anyone know who has composed the music for this trailer? Is it a commercial track? Is it Jon Hallur (although it doesn't sound like his style), and most importantly.. can we use it in our eve related productions? (ads, podcasts, skits etc?)
