Edited by: NeoShocker on 31/07/2009 01:16:17 Just a friendly notice and they're all at 50% off in steam. Linkie here.
I really recommend those titles. :) Thinking about DoW 2, but the game for multiplayer is nothing like its predecessor which turned me off, but I am interested in singleplayer aspect. ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

I wouldnt rate DoW II highly on its single player aspect. It was ok the first run though but afterwards there is no point to do it again with the exception of changing the point allocation on your squads (exp>points>skills). There are only a few real story missions amidst a lot of repetitive side missions, but thats only my opinion so it may be polar to what you may want :).
Looking at its price though it doesnt seem too bad (gutted i forked out 35 quid when it was released).
Just deciding if its worth getting hold of CoH OF / Valor. Loved playing vanilla CoH. Any suggestions?

CoH is great fun against a friend, never really got into DOW2 and I'm not sure why, I liked the first and the CoH system works well so the mix should've appealed but I never got into it, plus worse than that, after playing Sup Com\Forged Alliance and loving the way the map works, most games that don't have the zoom options of SC irritate me and I've never been back to CoH\OF.
Still we have Sup Com 2 to look forward to.

I know most people hate Steam, but if you wait for a deal, its more than worth any trouble.
I got the DoW series for 18 pounds (minus II).
DoW 2 looked a bit dissapointing tbh though .

One thing that I heard that is a super turn off for me is that you can't even build anything. From the description that I get you go through each mission with what they give you and that's that.

If you've played CoH its the pretty much the same system, odd thing is that the system works in CoH even tho it's using a real world historical situation with a totally alien game play dynamic, which you'd expect not to work, so a sci-fi scenario should work better, but for me it didn't, I suspect that's more to do with being spoiled by the map system in Sup Com which I played after COH but before DOW II, which is even more wierd.
I'm confused by my own tastes now, I need to sit down.
Bottom line is Sup Com is a brilliant title, best RTS I've played since Total Annihilation, which is written by the same guy Chris Taylor.
I'm pushing Sup Com a bit too much here I think....

DoW2 is poor. Speaking from experince playing the beta only. I think they have finally introduced a 2v2 which is good. However the windows live gamer automatch thing sucks. Its impossible to level up. Not only that but it is less a strategy game and more a 1000cpms wins the game, as there is very little in terms macro, micro wins the game.
CoH on the other hand is in my opinion the best rts out there. Well at least since Starcraft I suppose. I have played 100's of 1v1 and 2v2 games in it. Very entertaining. It has its problems, but overall, of you can get it for less then the cost of one month of eve, it is very much worth the investment.

For me it's all about the multiplayer...and to that end I like DoW II. Yes, Windows Live sucks but the gameplay itself is fun & engaging and each race feels very different from the other.
Some may hold out for SC2 for their rts fix but I think DoW II is well worth it -particularly at 50% off.
While I'm crap as Orks I play them just to listen to their voice acting

I bought CoH Gold on steam for Ç14.99 yesterday morning. It's now 02:31 and I am STILL trying to get the damn game to work... Steam is fail
Verified integrity of local files. Changed language to something else, then switched back. Deleted everything related to CoH, then redownloaded.
Nothing works.. I so hate Steam!

Steam can be a tricky thing, but it may not be steam at all. Like for example, I can't play Act of War because I have more than 3 gigs plus it hates 64bit OS :( (Don't believe me? google it). You should clarify the problem and posting your pc specs. And check out the steam forum, CoH subcategory, maybe you'll find the solution. ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

Well, I just bought and downloaded the relic pack/dow2 , so far its awesome, DoW 1 at least :D , never played it before , hard for me to get games down here in hell country haha, even with all its defects, I must say I love STEAM ... besides, digital downloads is the way of the future guys ... better embrace it now.
I must say tho, I miss having a neat assortment of game boxes with all the goodies that came on them, like thick manuals, extra goodies like cloth maps, poster maps or bonus dvd's with movies/music and small collector cards with ingame stuff printed on them ---

I'm running Win 7 64 bit 7100 build iirc, I can run DOW, DOW II, and CoH ok.

Try deleting everything for steam except the main exe and restarting it.

DoW II fell short for some reason, it had everything great graphics and game engine and was really playable it just doesn't seem right maybe its the lack of units compared to the previous games or even company of heroes.
I think the mistake was calling it Dawn of War II and it makes you expect a sequel when instead you get completely different WH40k based RTS.
