i was planning to go on an outing today to meat my other half but it seems the train people are striking here.
my thoughts on this are quite simple: stupid *****s, striking in a recession are we? over pay? sack the lot of them and employ some of the millions of people who would love a job right now.
i dont understand how they are trying to gain public support by cutting off services lol

I feel this way in general about people that complain about their jobs. They should go collect some cans if they are so damned impoverished. Learn to survive.

What is wrong with going on strike? It is a perfect means to put pressure back to your bosses. Only when there is a majority can it work and therefore does it not happen every day. All the bankers and brokers take the train every day. And whose fault is it? So we get to carry the faults of the banks on our shoulders, but when the train strikes the people shall learn to survive? Looks to me as if they are damn right to go on strike. Learn to walk! --

They are demanding a 2.5% pay rise in a recession, that's why it's wrong. And they are not even underpaid to start with as they have ú35k on average.

There are enough jobs out there without the train jobs. You only do not get anyone to do them. --

It is too expensive. As long as the train only strikes now and then, and the costs for the labour is cheap will this not happen any time soon. But with a bit more recession may we get enough engineers unemployed to do the trick. --

get a bunch of your friends, arrive at the train station early and block the strikers way to their picket line. Nothing is as confusing as a strike to counter a strike. Although you'll probably be asked to leave. My group was.

I think it's great that there is still some power in the hands of the worker in this country. I don't imagine they undertake a strike too lightly, no matter what the papers say.
Look what happens when there's no union to represent your views: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/hampshire/8177742.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/8171318.stm etc. etc.
I used to be a member of the Daily Mail "Hang 'Em High" brigade, but as I've got older, I look at the world through softer eyes. The union is a much needed balance.

I hate them because they are earning twice as much as me and want more. I'll take that pay in a heartbeat.

TBH I agree with unions, and after Thatcher made it very hard for strikes to happen so often (tho I still think she was bad for the UK) I think we are at a balance now. However, 2.5% increase on 35k in a recession, a little greedy in my opinion.

Whenever you see a chance to increase your income should you go for it. The recession is a perfect excuse to lower people's income. Many companies have either stopped hiring or fired people, and those who are out of job are now selling themselves for the lowest prices. As a result are the incomes falling everywhere, and only because of some banks. What will make it worse is that the companies will use the recession to bargain one down even after the recessions is over.
Hate the train workers, because you cannot get to work, but do not hate them, because they take their chances. Everyone is playing a hard game. --

They must be rubbing their hands with glee at the moment. All the work benefits that companies contribute to will be axed if they can get away with it.
For example the companies can stop contributory pension schemes, citing the recession for all woes. When we return to profitable times, will they start to contribute back into employee schemes again and return to the status quo? Not on your life.
