...would you consider a Rook or an Onyx?
Rook: ECM + Drones + decent Damage Onyx: Tank + Tank + ok Damage
I'm not sure but I think Rook is slightly better in uneven situations (1 vs n<~3). Onyx could have problems against smaller targets and is better in gangs maybe?
Thanks for your input

I would use the Rook + only engage safe targets.

Not Onyx. Poor DPS, no drones, no way of GTFO when you get tackled and local spikes.

rook
used it a lot for solo in the old days when they first came out.
watch out for drone boats
make sure you got good ew skill-thats your only tank
2 signal amp and a bcu in low and multispec jams in mids(people will say racial)-i can permajam any bs in mine, and i cycle jams every 3 sec iirc. mwd and senboost-you wanna lock them fast, and mwd if the s*it hit the fan.
think i used 1 jam strength rig and a ccc.
never tried drones in one, never had them when i was usein mine

extender rigs were ALWAYS worth it IMO, you get a ton of extra HP for those things over resist rigs

Edited by: Siona Windweaver on 03/08/2009 15:30:14 Depending on your hardeners (2x Invul, 1x DCU), it is actually a better idea to fit 2x extender and 1x EM resist rig, it gives you more ehp that way. If you however, put 1 em hardener, it is better to fit 3x extender.
In any case, extenders are well worth their price.
Edit: Back to OP, If you dont want to use drake, rook is better. Use onyx only if you know the area and have scouts on nearby systems. Its too easy to get tackled on onyx.

Thanks for your replies.
@Drake: I considered this option too. Tank and Damage (with HAMs) is nice. Although I miss the *gtfo option if things are going wrong. The Rook seems to be fun too ^^
One question regarding fitting of a Rook: I considered two multi ECMs and a 3-slot-tank (LSE+Invul+EM). What's your opinion? Imo racial ECM makes sense only if I have 4 of them. I know - ECM is the tank but it feels a bit better for me to have some buffer...or would you fit 3 ECMs and lesser shield buffer (LSE+EM)...or really 4 racial specific ECM?

2-3 multis and buffer is the way to go. You don't want to have a paper thin ship that dies if you get unlucky. A 3-slot tank is a bit overkill though. You want LSE, invuln, mwd, point, and 3 jammers or 2 and a cap booster. Rigs can cover the em hole.

Thanks for that hint. I wanted a 3-slot-tank (LSE+Invul+EM) because I planned to use two Particle Dispersion Augmentor rigs. But I'll check the benefit of the second ECM rig. The 3rd ECM module I can fit that way could be much more valuable than a secon rig!
