Hello, recently I have had a lot of time in my hands and as I am creating my corporation I have started on a guide, so far this guide is very intensive and already contains 14 pages in just "Introduction" and "New to EVE Starting Guide" there are about 7-10 sections in this guide, making this the largest guide out there that I have seen so far.
I would like some judgement on it first before distributing a final copy. Currently it is in the works and only 20% completed. If you'd like to obtain the PDF copy which has a lot of pictures to go with the text please email me at YoelR@Verizon.net to obtain a copy I will send it to you ASAP.
Here it goes :

INTRODUCTION Welcome, by now you should be a member of the Amarrian Trading Federation, or simply have just ignored the disclaimer and committed an act of piracy and now own this guide. The soul purpose of this guide is to get you on your feet in the EVE Universe. This guide will be updated consistently and will be distributed to our members. (Pirate that) We will never charge or ask for anything from our members or friends when giving a copy of this guide; if you were asked for ISK or U.S.D.Fs you were just robbed. So letFs get started! The first thing you want to do is create your character if you have not done so! (Of course you have! Or else you would not be reading this!) There are a number of things you should take into account when deciding your skills and the path you want to take in EVE, here they are: 1.Your RACE { Gallente; Amarr; Minmatar; Caldari 2.The type of career you want to pursue : Trading; Mining; Manufacturing; Combat 3.The type of ship you want to fly: EXAMPLE: Tanking, ECW (Electronic Warfare), Fleet Leader (Gives Bonus), Miner, Covert Ops (Can locate wormholes), Stealth Bombing, Logistics (Repair), and so many more`get with your corporate division leader for more information on the path youFd like to take.

4.The type of weapons youFd like to use: Lasers; Hybrid Cannons; Missile Bombardments; Gatling Guns, Mining Lasers` or more. 5.Certifications; following the proper certifications for the same class ship would be ideal to speeding up your training in EVE, for example here is the path you would take if youFd like to stay in the same ship-class upgrading table :
The example above of a Kestrel>Caracal>Drake>Raven displays the importance of training certifications for the proper ships. If you do this when training you will speed up your results by about 10x faster than any new player without this information.
6.LetFs not get too far ahead now. Go ahead and start by getting yourself familiar with your tCharacter Sheetv. The Character Sheet is in your top-left corner of the screen, this sheet will display a portrait of your character. For example:
Go ahead and click on your portrait to reveal the information it holds! Alright so the following information you got is : Skills> Certificates>Decorations> Attributes> Augmentations> Jump Clones> Bio> Employment History> Standings> Security Status> Kill Rights> Combat Log
SKILLS { The Skill panel is exactly what it is` Skills! This is where you will go to train absolutely every skill in the EVE Universe. You will have an option on the top right of your character sheet called OPEN TRAINING QUEUE this option will allow you to train a multitude of skills under 24 hours back to back, if the queue exceeds 24-hours you will not be allowed to place another skill on queue. Training Level 1 & 2 skills are ideal for the Training Queue option, level 3 is pushing it, level 4 wonFt work.
CERTIFICATIONS { This panel simply allows you to view what skills you have mastered in the certification tree. You may turn these skills public so other players may awe in your success, it is not recommended as it may allow pirates to see what your made out of. (Not much if you mine)
DECORATIONS { The Decoration screen will allow you to display the decorations you have earned through Faction Warfare or your corporation awarding you a medal for whatever achievement.
ATTRIBUTES { With this screen you will see how much intelligence, charisma, willpower, perception, and memory you have. These attributes can be increased by acquiring the following learning skills: Analytical Mind, Clarity, Eidetic Memory, Empathy, Focus, Instant Recall, Iron Will, Learning, Logic, Presence, Spatial Awareness. Each of the skill above is a tbasicv (Cheap ISK) and an tAdvancedv (Expensive Skill). Those skills will modify your learning time for absolutely any skill. (ONLY TRAIN THESE SKILLS WHEN YOUR 200K SHY OF YOUR 100% TRAINING TIME FROM BEING COMPLETED)
AUGMENTATIONS { The Augmentation screen displays your IMPLANTS the implants can affect your attributes and much more! Some IMPLANTS are for CPU/Mining/Power Grid; All the implants can be viewed in this website : http://joonicks.eu/eve/implants
JUMP CLONES { The Jump Clones screen can be used to view where in the universe you have other clones. You can literally teleport from one place to another instantaneously if you have a Jump Clone. There IS a cool down after you jump; your implants also DO NOT travel onto another body with you. Jump Clones may only be created if you have a corporation with a POS whom allows it or good skills and reputation with a station.

BIO { The Biography Screen in the game is used to tput yourself out therev if you have services to give such as Freight Transporting Services; or you mine for the public, you may put this down into your BIO with a listing of prices. My BIO (Coldfire0101) has our corporation information, which is :
t☣A-T-F☣ q Amarrian Trading Federation q
Manufacturing | Supply | Demand We Buy We Sell We Produce
Gas Delivery Freighter Transportation
STATUS : Recruiting Check Corp Biography
I have helped the following players : N.G;S.T;v
Employment History { People do not pay much attention to this option in your character` You really should! Let us create a scenario` say you are going in for a job interview, your employer looks at your resume and begins to see how many times you jumped from one job onto another. This will not look professional and you more than likely will not be hired. It is IMPERATIVE that you stay in ONE Corporation as long as you can, this will make the employer (corporation hiring you) feel a bit more comfortable in having you upon their fleet.
Standing { Standings` This is very important in EVE, standing with a corporation/group of people/station/race could change your style of play in EVE Dramatically.
This is how standings affect you: Traders { The standings could affect how much you pay in taxes & escrow to the station. Miners { Standing for a miner will dictate how much the miner loses to the station mineral wise. (The Station will take a % of resources after you reprocess them.) Combat { For combat (missionaries) the station will allow you to sell your products cheaper via paying less tax and less escrow. Corporation { Standing with a certain Race in a region will dictate what security status you could place a Player Owned Structure in.
How else does Standing affect my EVE Gameplay? Say you have negative standing with Caldari, and you fly into a Caldari Estate, you will be destroyed by Caldari forces guarding gates immediately.
Security Status { In EVE your security status is VITAL, say you have 0.0 status (you havenFt done any missions) you can go anywhere as you please! If you were to engage someone in 0.4- (Lo-Sec; Dangerous PvP Here.) and kill them; you would lose security status; -0.5 ect` once you have killed so many people you will lose your rights to enter 1.0;0.9;0.8;0.7;0.6;0.5 Solar Systems; You will be stuck in a universe where dog eats dog and you are well`. A cat unless a corporation is backing you. So in essence do A LOT of missions and stay active with your agents to keep your Security Status high.
Kill Rights { Kill Rights; this is a very self-explanatory section; it is exactly as the title suggests, the rights of whom you could kill! In order for you to get a Kill Right SOMEONE MUST HAVE KILLED YOU FIRST before you can kill them.
Combat Log { The Combat Log will display your Kills/Losses, if you have slain an enemy it will show under the tKillv tab; you will be allowed to see the opponents ENTIRE fitting. It will say what items were destroyed during his final explosion (you destroying him) and what dropped for you to loot. This works vice versa if you were to be destroyed and go under the tLossesv tab.

STARTING NEW Welcome! You are officially a member of the EVE Universe by now. It is time to exercise and use all the knowledge and skills you have learnt in the introduction. The phase tStarting Newv will target : Security Status; Standings; Skills; Certifications; Attributes; Training Queue; Implants.
This section will also include the important of doing missions regardless of being a Mission Pilot or a Mining Pilot. It is essential you learn the basics of doing missions and locating agents, it is also important that you read on and learn what are the primary skills to have while starting your EVE Online Character.
Mission #1 { As you create your character you will have a tutorial. This tutorial will walk you through the most basic parts of EVE such as skill training, moving around the game, warping and opening up your inventory, so on and so forth`
Once your Tutorial is completed you will be contacted by your agent, perform this agents missions (all of them), after you do the missions you will have a storyline mission (you can check a storyline mission by clicking the tJournalv tab on your navigation menu (left hand side of your screen where EVEMAIL/JUKEBOX/CHARSHEET is.) Under your journal normal missions will be made known and storyline as well.
When you have completed your storyline mission it is time to find an agent! We will pretend you are Caldari currently for the sake of learning. The first thing you will do is decide what you want to be! Combat or Mining, maybe even Manufacturing, once you have made this decision you will click the tPeople & Placesv tab on your navigation menu. When you have opened up People & Places make sure that tCorporationv is selected under Search Type > Under search String you will type tCaldari Navyv a menu will appear with more than likely one selection, but right click tCaldari Navyv and hit tShow Infov Something like this should appear :
When you see that box open, please select the tAGENTSv tab, this tab will unveil the different types of missions you could do for the Caldari Navy, here they are :
1.Command [40] 2.Internal Security [14] 3.Legal [1] 4.Personnel [17] 5.Public Relations [14] 6.Security [36] 7.Surveillance [14]
These missions may seem self explanatory but here is the break down for them :
Administration: 50% Kill, 50% Courier Advisory: 34% Kill, 66% Courier Archives: 5% Kill, 90% Courier, 5% Trade Astrosurveying: 40% Kill, 30% Courier, 25% Mining, 5% Trade Command: 97% Kill, 3% Courier Distribution: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Intelligence: 85% Kill, 15% Courier Internal Security: 95% Kill, 5% Courier Legal: 50% Kill, 50% Courier Manufacturing: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Marketing: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Mining: 5% Kill, 85% Courier, 10% Mining (II) Production: 5% Kill, 95% Courier Public Relations: 34% Kill, 66% Courier R&D*: 0% Kill, 50% Courier(S), 50% Trade Security: 90% Kill, 5% Courier, 5%Trade Storage: 5% Kill, 95% Courier(L) Surveillance: 95% Kill, 5% Courier
The listing above will allow you to expect what to be up against per mission.

We will pretend you are going the combat route and will be selecting tSecurityv missions. Under this tab there will be up to 36 agents; since you are brand new, there may only be one to five agents for you to pick from. You will know what agents are available to you because there are two divisions within the Security tab (ALL Tabs Legal, Person, Surveillance, Internal ect` have Available and Not available tabs.) These two Divisions are called tAvailable to Youv and tNot Available to Youv whatever you see under the Available to you is exactly what it means, they are the agents you can do missions for currently. If you chose an agent which IS NOT available to you, you are wasting your time because when you arrive to their station they will tell you to leave. Q&A: 1.How do I know when I have enough missions completed for one agent so I may move into another? Easy, once you done 16 Missions and 1 Storyline, you probably can move up to another agent by performing the steps listed above involving People & Places; Corporation > Caldari Navy> looking at the agents tab then a new agent with the same level but higher quality. (Once you get a Storyline Mission it usually means you have completed 16 missions, an agent will send you an EVE Mail asking for help, this is the storyline mission.) 2.What is the difference between a Level 1 Quality -19 agent and a Level 1 Quality -4 agent? The difference between these two are the Level 1 Quality -19 is a new players agent, where a -4 Agent would be a harder agent with a little more of a payout. So try and move to a better quality agent when available for more isk.
3.When I see an agent under the tAvailable to Youv sub-category, how do I go to them? Simply, assuming you already know how to autopilot or warp to 0M of a Star Gate simply right click the agent you are looking at and hit tSet Destinationv this will plan out a course to your agent. Also make sure that you are flying through ALL Hi-Sec Territory regions, it is very dangerous to go through a 0.4 and below, chances of dying are critical.
4.My missions seem like they repeat a lot? Am I doing something wrong? No, in fact EVEFs missions are fun but yet not a lot of thought was put into them, they are very straight forward and they get very repetitive after a while. As you improve quality these missions will become harder and you will gain more ISK from them.
5.Seems like I am not making much ISK from these missions what else can I do? You can salvage missions although I do not recommend getting a destroyer and 4x4 Salvagers & Tractor Beams for level 1Fs, we will go into that further in the guide. Surely but sadly all you can do now is kill, kill, kill, kill, kill, and sell the loot.
6.You told me to sell the loot, but I am not getting jack for it? WhatFs up with that Orlok Raven & Coldfire0101? Oh I am sorry` we forgot to tell you that you are an idiot and donFt know how to read! Just kidding, obviously you can as your reading this` (Corny) Alright so you really need to pay very close attention when you sell items, here is an example of good versus bad selling:
Figure 2 Here you have Figure 1 and Figure 2, these are two perfect examples of a market sale going good and one going all out bad. When you sell goods that you have looted simply save them until you got a bunch that you can fill up an Industrial Ship, do not be so quick to sell items that could bring you a 80-150%+ profit and sell it for under market price 0 / -100% Profit. There will be times where you have to undercut other sellers to get your item sold, this will be taught later in the guide, for now this is all you need to know. Beware of what you sell and the price you sell it for, do not underestimate the market and patience! THE DIFFERENT TYPE OF CORPORATIONS YOU COULD DO MISSIONS FOR: 1.Caldari Navy (Caldari Combat) 2.Deep Core Mining Inc (Caldari Mining) 3.Amarr Navy (Amarr Combat) 4.Joint Harve

(Gallente Mining) 7.Republic Fleet (Minmatar Combat) 8.Minmatar Mining Corporation (Minmatar Mining) Alright, now that you have these, it is time to learn how to pull them up WITHOUT having to go into the People & Places! This is called tHYPERLINKINGv, hyper linking can be used for anything including characters, corporations, solar systems, and items! Just type the name of whatever youFd like that exists in EVE and it will appear once hyperlinked. STEPS TO HYPERLINKING: We will use my name for now, type in your chat box tOrlok Ravenv, now hit CTRL + A, this will SELECT ALL that you have written in the box, now right-click my name while selected tORLOK RAVENv you should now get the following options: COPY ALL, PASTE, AUTO LINK. Hit the > in auto link and select tCHARACTERv, you should get an option now with my name. double click it and my name should now be hyperlinked. You can now do this to the corporation names listed above in the tDIFFERENT TYPE OF CORPORATIONS YOU COULD DO MISSIONS FORv, except instead of selecting tCHARACTERv you will select tCORPORATIONSv.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR SKILLS AND SHIP AS A NEWBIE: Alright, you are now in EVE, you now know the basics of collecting missions from agents and what they do, also what you could do to make money off them. We want to focus on training your skills for your first ship in EVE.
We in the tAmarrian Trading Federationv start all our players with the following frigates > 1.Punisher (AMARR) 2.Kestrel (CALDARI) 3.Rifter (MINMATAR) 4.Tristan (GALLENTE) Once again we will pretend you are playing the Caldari Faction and we will be using a Kestrel in our example.
So the first thing you want to do is come up with a decent set-up for a Kestrel, a cheap easy to use fitting. Out of the top of my head here is what I will say to use :
HI { 4x Standard Missile Launcher I MED { 1 Small Shield Booster I / Cap Recharger I / Basic Magnetic Scattering Amplifier LO { 2 Ballistic Control Systems
You will want to train up all the skills to use the items above including the Kestrel ship itself. Once the training is completed, your next step is upgrading your equipment to a META 3 or META 4 upgrade. (META4 Items are almost or better than T2 Items.)
So your build would now be :
|

Orlok Raven
 |
Posted - 2009.08.03 21:37:00 -
[7]
HI { 4x TE-2100 Standard Missile Bay MED { Small Clarity Ward Booster I / Cap Recharger II / Cold-Gas I Arcjet Thrusters LO { 2x Cross-Linked Bolt Array I
Once you have all the items listed above you will now do more damage, but your output of damage may very well depend on your skills. What this means is, to fire your Standard Missile Launcher you of course need the Standard Missile skills, but your alternate missile skills such as: Warhead Upgrades/Target Navigation Prediction/Standard Missile Specialization/Missile Launcher Operations/Missile Guidance/Missile Projection/Missile Bombardment/Guided Missile Precision, all play a major impact in your damage/accuracy/range/speed. Not training these skills would be an enormous mistake and your own undoing during PVP/PVE.
So in essence what are we trying to say? Simply! Stay on your FRIGATE until all the following steps below are completed. YOU WILL REGRET NOT DOING THIS!
The first step you want to do is right click your tKestrelv or hyperlink it via text chat, and hit tShow Infov once you do that, you will see your Kestrel Information sheet, click the tRecommendedv tab.
In this screen you will be prompted with three categories specifically for the Kestrel, they are: CORE COMPETENCY / FRIGATE LAUNCHER CONTROL / ACTIVE SHIELD TANKING.
It is very important to right click each one of these categories and select the tOPEN CERTIFICATION PLANNERv by doing this you will unveil the tech-tree for each category. The tech-tree will show you what skills need to be trained for you to properly tank a mission, do damage to a mission, and accuracy logistics of your ship. If you do not train these certifications you are only hurting yourself, they are there for a reason! LetFs see what the Tech-Tree for Active Shield Tanking looks like!
ACTIVE SHIELD TANKING TECH-TREE {
Oh this looks very nice! This is your Active Shield Tanking tech-tree which looks different than your Frigate Turret or Missile Control tech tree. The only things that show grab your immediate attentions are the two skills in the top which affect your frigate directly.
The skills are: Shield Operation LvLIII and Shield Upgrades LvLIII get both of these skills to level III and you will be rewarded the certification. Please note some skills will have an tOv tXv and a green checkmark, these will mean the following:
O { You have the skill but lacking the training. X { You do not have the skill and must acquire it. Checkmark { You have the skill and it is up to par with the requirement.
What to do when all certifications are met for your frigate > When your certifications are met for all three categories of your frigate under the tRecommendedv tab, train the following skills to aid you improve your overall frigate
Frigate 3 { This skill should have already been trained or else you would not be on a Kestrel. Hull Upgrades 3 | Weapon Upgrades 2 | Repair Systems II or Shield Operation 1I | Science III Cybernetics 1 | Mechanic IV | Survey III | Salvaging 1 | Electronics IV | Engineering IV | Energy System Operation IV | Energy Management IV | Energy Grid Upgrades II
Once all these are acquired along with all your of your frigates certification congratulation on having your first complete ship!

I love it when new player guides (intentionally?) do whatever they can to give new players bad advice.
Quote: When you have completed your storyline mission it is time to find an agent!
No. That's wrong.
When you complete the tutorial, it's time to decide what you want to do (hint: running missions is only one of many options...and a very boring option it is). THEN you go pursue that.

With all due respect, I am VERY CLEAR that there are MANY different options you can take when beginning, that section was specifically for Mission and Agents, it also states it very clearly. I understand there is a lot of words, maybe the PDF would suit you better as it has pictures.
After you complete a storyline mission I recommended in the guide for the player to check for new agents with better quality.

Quite often you can't help having a long employment history. Sometimes when people first start they join a corp, find it's not for them, then find someplace else to go.
I usually see background checks using past corps ONLY for checking for potential spies (i.e an applicant was a member of a rival corporation) or to do some further research on (corp thief, etc).
I also disagree with the learning advice. Getting learning skills out of the way right from the start is usually best. You'' hit maybe 250k SP by the time you finish the set, leaving you plenty to get started with other skills. By mapping properly, you can train Learning plus the two required basic and advanced learnings, then go from there.

Sorry, Orlok, but I'm not going to sugar coat it: this guide sucks. It's poorly written, gives lots of bad advice, some of which is just wrong, and it appears to be an unabashed recruiting tool. There are plenty of great writers out there with a deep understanding of game mechanics and a better grasp of the requirements of teaching an audience. I suggest you spend more time reading their guides and understanding what's good about them before trying to put them all out of business with the uber-guide.
P.S. I knew it was going to be a bad guide as soon as I saw the huge - DISCLAIMER -, Table of Contents, and reference to "14 pages in just Introduction". Those are not indicators of a good guide, they're the sign of someone trying to make something appear "real". If you're going to put something out there seeking input, I suggest you focus more on core content that is actually helpful and that critics can actually evaluate, and less on window dressing and un-funny humor.

- standings don't affect escrow on markets; - the bit about negative standings and getting shot is just wrong (you get shot only if you're below -5.00 effective standing and you don't get destroyed immediately, you can quite comfortably move around their space); - jumpclones have nothing to do with POSses.

The question one needs to ask when writing a guide: "Is what I'm doing new and innovating?" Is there a demand for your current 20% completed sub par guide while much more accurate and in depth wiki's and guides exist? Spend less time writing the role-playing legal chatter (disclaimer and intro) and more time doing something original.
