We at the Swedish news site www.nukem.se are proud to give you some rather exciting news about CCP Games. It seems that they have registered a new logotype, which, frankly I've never seen the likes of before in EVE or related artwork.
As you can see, the picture depicts a gas mask that is surrounded by lines. There are three lines both to the right and left, and below the bottom lines are connected by a "V". As you can clearly see, it is reminiscent of the EVE logo. And there's the text, that simply says DUST 514.
We have acquired this logo from a trademark registration, and the file also says this: "Class Status: Active Entertainment services, namely, providing an on-line computer game;"
It is clear that this is either a new game or a new expansion. However, from my limited experience of the game, they haven't altered the logo like this before. The word DUST might imply that we're talking about a planet's surface, and why would you wear a gas mask in space?
We at Nukem are very excited about this and we think that you should be to! Please discuss.

Edited by: Illwill Bill on 04/08/2009 17:20:19 I like it! It feels much more dirty and non PG-13, and we need more of that in EVE. Edit: Linkage

Yes, Illwillbill, that was our source and you should take a look at it, it confirms that CCP are owners of the trademark.

That gasmask just doesn't fit in the logo or on EVE, imho. It's REALLY bad. I hope I won't see a CCP confirmation, ever (until then, I just won't believer it).

Are we sure it'll be Eve related at all? Could it be White Wolf stuff, for example? I know next to nothing about their stuff, but this seems unlikely as an Eve logo, so that'd be my first guess.

Is this another new project, on top of Eve and World of Darkness?
No wonder they're writing dev blogs about new buttons in that case.

From what I remember through the alcohol fog from the FanFest last year the idea of the FPS console tie in for Eve (which would also have an effect on Tranq in some way) was codenamed DUST at the time so I would have thought that is the likely answer.

hmm.. could be that's how they plan on implementing planetery interaction? FPS for the ground combat part of FW, perhaps? This could lead to empire systems actually changing sov. based on player efforts! Absolutely everything is subjective. |

That was my thought. Hell, if I have to buy a new game to do this, I will cheerfully do so.

That is very reasonable, however I wonder if you're sure that the FPS will be for consoles only? Wouldn't it be really harmful for CCP's image since they've gained their entire fanbase on PC/Linux/Mac? EVE is often seen as a hardcore game and hardcore usually doesn't go too well with consoles.

Maybe they want to make an EVE theamed FPS. Bf2 style. who knows this things. But the EVE book got people into that idea, and its been requested that ccp make an fps. 100 vs 100 battles :).

Nothing wrong with a bit of diversification. And there's money in console games. Having said that, I wouldn't buy one.

No I'm not sure at all. I was drunk. The Dev I was talking to about it was Drunk and additionally even if it were the case at the time the plans might have changed. I am reporting what I remember.

It reminds me of pictures of minmatar spec ops units that have appeared in some artwork.
It IS very eve like an emblem as well. Of course it could be that the artist is the same also an just using a similar style.
Are the race specific emblems trademarked? If so... could indicate something of that nature. ------------------------------------------------- Search: Sky Grunthor |

'niche' seems to be the key, so something not likely to be huge in popularity - maybe something with a harsh death penalty? an FPS type game?
------------------------------------------------ In the beginning the universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move |

Where did you get that from? The video shown didn't contain any reference to DUST, from what I can see nor remember.

Edited by: Biggi Raeubertochter on 04/08/2009 20:36:07 From massively.com:
What does "DUST 514" have to do with EVE Online? That's something we're very curious to know at Massively. A recent trademark filing from CCP Games for DUST 514, submitted by Atlanta-based attorney Steven M. Kushner,
is described as providing 'entertainment services' and an 'on-line computer game'.
If you look at the logo of a gas mask above a striped pattern, it bears more than a passing resemblance to the EVE Online logo. The trademark filing description reads: "The mark consists of a masked face with white sunken eyes and a round opening at the mouth. There are two parallel thick lines on either side of the jaw of the face which are a parallel to a third line which runs across the bottom of the face and dips into a V at the center." Definitely not a coincidence.
Then again... "DUST" is like ashes, right? And the "V"... we do know there's a World of Darkness MMO on the way. Could it be?
There's also been mention of an EVE-themed first person shooter in the works and we know they've been hiring developers for a console game. Most likely these questions will all be answered at GDC Europe next month, when CCP Games is expected to reveal their next project.
So what do you think, is DUST 514 connected with EVE Online or are we seeing something connected with World of Darkness?
