Seriously though I was chatting to a CCP personage outside the Party whilst we were both having a smoke. I think it came up then. Of course it will likely turn out I was very very drunk and talking to a wall and imagining the whole thing.

At last fanfest they said they pulled all their resources out of their other projects and put them into EVE.
Seems like, after Apocrypha and all the fail patches that followed, CCP realized this was a bad idea.

Actually, busting into the console market would be a smart move on ccp's part. Thats a huge potential revenue stream that they have not one greedy little finger in. Hell the ps3 and 360 could easily run a ported eve client as long as they buy a mouse and keyboard. Now add in an eve themed fps and we will be running infiniband with a dedicated server for every system with a quickness as the extra income would make it possible much sooner. As far as the type of player that a console release would bring in well yeah they are mostly tards but aren't tards the prefered prey of pvpers anyways?

Well yeah they still have to finish the actual code but moar money always helps to shave some time off the deployment schedual. Plus extra money would let them install moar hardware sooner even if the code is not ready. Would having the 0.0 region you are currently in running on multiple servers not be better than the single node that rolls over and dies if too many ratting ravens are on it at the same time you want to do a bit of gang or fleet pew pew?
Originally by: Zaqar Anyway, you don't have to be Einstein to play Eve - a quick glance over the forums will tell you that -

If it's a first person shooter, I want it integrated into the EVE economy. Players use gear and vehicles made and purchased in the EVE universe, and they fight for pay that comes from the EVE economy. Their objectives? Planetary structures affecting sovereignty -- which means that the big alliances will be paying handsome ISK wages to the ground-pounder squads who can most effectively defend sov assets and take out those of the opposing alliances.
Sigh, I know it won't happen like this, but a guy can dream. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

QFE,
This is exactly what I thought of when I saw the teaser clip from FanFest. Toss in the occasional orbital bombardment while you are at it. Also, a good story campaign would not go amiss

Um no. I hate consoles anyway, but running on a console is not for eve. Cross platform games require alot of effort to port back and forth, increasing development time and bugtesting time. Considering CCP discontinued classic and linux clients, they obviously don't like this.

Edited by: LordSwift on 05/08/2009 08:46:07 Hell yeah i would pay for a standalone eve FPS on console or something. Aslong as it sticks with the backstory it would be awesome. Also this would bring in subscribers as well. Easily done they could offer a months free game time in eve for buying the console game :)
Edit: just looked at the logo again and it is something to do with eve. You can see the word EVE just is not that obvious Join the brown Coats today!!! |

CCP? Consoles? FPS?
Meh.
I hope it's just connected to the "pirate expansion" that was briefly mentioned on Mittani's column when he was talking to Devs in Las Vegas (I think it was). But it's probably not. :<

During last fanfest they "accidentally" showed a couple seconds of a (i think eve-related) FPS. The videos are still on the site i guess. Prolly is something about that, an infantry logo?

I'll be the one to say it.
Either the designers are lazy. Or it is eve related.
The design of 'wings' image appears to be the same as this (more or less)
http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/www/misc/EVE_Trinity_logo_flat.png
Being of a similar design ethic it's easy to speculate it's possibly something to do with EVE.

look at it this way.. a console fps would likely A) bring more ppl/money to the EVE universe, and B) Keep the ones that annoy us so badly OUT of local in the spaceships part.
I can see it now.
noob "Eve is hard, waah waah, whine, sob" one of us "Dust is that way -->"
keeps the whiners away and keeps money with CCP so they came develop cool new **** for us faster. Absolutely everything is subjective. |

I agree with the above as well.
In the universe of EVE, not everyone is a capsuleer. Some ships are still even piloted the old fashioned way by sitting in a chair and pushing the buttons. SO, this creates the potential for two branches of EVE. If they DO create a planetside/station side FPS for PC/Console then the chances are it could very well be a case of 'you are not a capsuleer, you just fail'. While those that play EVE online remain true capsuleers, etc.

If it is a shooter, my twin hopes would be that it is at least available on PC and that CCP can make it into what Planetside could and should have been.

Thank you, I was trying to figure out which one of the EVE logos had that wingy shape. Also, I agree that it would be branding suicide to give an unrelated product a logo that carries elements of the EVE one, and CCP has consistently shown that it employs some amazingly talented graphic designers - so I doubt they would mess up that bad.
It is something EVE-related, even if it's not Tranquility-related. -----

Edited by: TraininVain on 05/08/2009 17:00:49 Probably a ground combat game of some sort set in the EVE universe.
If it is that it's more likely to be real-time strategy/tactics or even an RPG than an FPS even though a CCP produced MMOFPS would give me a chubby.

Only console owners with HDTV, keyboard and mouse could realistically play eve. That's a tiny revenue stream. Cost of porting it to 1, 2 or 3 consoles is likely to be bigger.
