It's actually quite funny. I once kept a carrier from aligning and warping to a FW plex, for about 5 mins using a just MWD coercer. He finally had to call for help to make me dock up.

well considering the size of the titanic and the size of a frigate in EVE, it wouldn't just bump it, it would also break it in hal-- oh wait.... ---

for any of us that actually know basic physics - a coercer has a mass, with mwd, of about 2.1m kg.
Multiplied by the speed it would have, about 1.7km/s.
The coercer has 3,570,000,000 m*kg/s
this will bump a carrier about 3 meters a second in the wrong way..
Soo.. yea, kinda ridiculous that a destroyer could stop a carrier from doing anything.

I'm all for eliminating bumping and adding in collision damage.
I really want to fly a Crusader at max speed into a Titan and watch both vanish into a mini-nova.

Running out of ammo ? fly straight to the other ship, BOOM esplosions !!! Can't fly straight and your hiting asteroids ? BOOM !!!
And of course the lol's of seing thousand of ship going straight into the stations
We need that now ccp.

I agree, collision damage would add so much to the game. Finally Armageddon's would be able to use that hard front piece for ramming. And we could get rid of this annoying bumping. However I could see this causing major issues with fleets, and gang warping to a single spot. So it has some problems.

*waits for the same people who say "this is so unrealistic" to come say "bumping is a legit tactic! Leave it alone!"*
I'd like to say that EVE players don't just want their playstyle to be better and/or static, while being polite and understanding that other playstyles are there too and keeping a level head and a non-sided view on issues.
I'd LIKE to say that.

one of the issues that would arise would be that there would be no way to stop ppl from gate or station hugging. It would become very hard to kill someone that doesnt want to fight(sounds good but would go against a lot of what makes eve pvp great)

You're assuming that spacedrives are Newtonian. Pretty stupid assumption when ships coast to a stop in the vacuum of space. Bumping is entirely consistent with the non-Newtonian nature of space drives. Precisely how it's consistent, I can't say because I don't know which of the handwaves CCP decided to use, but the whole movement system is a handwave from the get-go, so making up the additional "bumping" handwave shouldn't be too difficult.
You couldn't play a game with Newtonian spacedrives. Especially if you can't handle what I've said above. 90% of the player base would be plummeting at relativistic speeds for deep space, 9.9% would be nervously puttering around stations and .1% would actually be able to maneuver.

Think of it this way:
A titan is a gigantic airplane which has a cabin with the pressure of 1 atmosphere(68 PSI).
You hurl at frigate at the thing. A breach is had in the hull and pressure is going to leak out.
Given the fact that each reaction has an equal and opposite effect, the leak is now going to act as a thruster due to the pressure coming out of the breach.
Hence, you get bumping.

Show me a titan without shields
Or armor.
Or a titan that would be phased at all by even a 1mn afterburner(considerably smaller then a leak)

So, eh, you're saying that a Titan is a big balloon and the guy inside it nothing but hot air?
