This isnt a idea pitching thread, or a waste of space saying how much i want it.(think its the right place sorry if this is the wrong place)
just wondering about the concept of walk in stations and i know theres plot holes in eve but its just something that has struck me
so... as far as i gather, our pods our filled with a fluid to keep us in suspended animation and we have god knows how many tubes/cables attached to parts of the body, with implants going into our heads. then if we had tubes n what knot sticking out of us wouldn't we have great trouble when forced to do simple tasks on our own, stuff like breathing, eating... a bio breaks and the list goes on heat/cold getting sick even something like sitting down grabbing a drink seeing a minmatar with out chains on would we even know how to walk ??
its just a odd concept giving players the ability to leave the this that keeps them alive so well and when you open your pod all of your fluid is gonna go everywhere and i don't think Scotty will be to happy about cleaning that up.
(grammer/spelling **** tell someone who cares its to late to think)

The key thing to remember, from what I know, is that you're not in your capsule 100% of the time (unless by choice and some have made that choice in the background stories). Most capsuleers walk around stations/planets etc when they're not out flying missions for whomever.
I think the idea behind the fluid has less to do with nutrient and more to do with offsetting G in space. Allowing a pilot to better maneuver his ship means G and without the fluid the pilot might very well find himself spending the rest of his career as a few molecules on the back of his pod. I'm also under the impression that there is only one tube needed to connect a capsuleer to his ship. Don't forget that very few people are born capsuleers. So, in short: Capsuleers don't spend enough time in their pods that their muscles would atrophy and they'd forget how to walk.

If CCP doesn't seem to have a problem with us walking around, I think you should consider your assumptions about the capsule flawed. -----

Edited by: Stitcher on 07/08/2009 00:27:28 the pod gel is there for three reasons.
1: It shields the pilot from the adverse effects of warp travel and wormhole jumping (both natural and artifical). Ordinarily, long-term exposure to FTL travel can result in developing a psychotic delusional syndrome known as "Cynosis", which requires starship crew to keep themselves medicated. the pod gel means that the pilot doesn't need the medication, which would presumably affect his/her performance. (Source: Empyrean age)
2: Sensory deprivation: by depriving the pilot's natural senses of touch, sight, scent etc, the machine-fed sensory feedback form the pod isn't interfered with.
3: sitting or standing for a long time has all sorts of adverse health effects: deep vein thrombosis, for instance. not to mention joint pain brought on by bad posture, pressure sores, etc etc. All the reasons you should get up and take some exercise rather than spend all day at your computer or in front of the telly, basically. Floating suspended in gel would alleviate a lot of those problems.
It certainly doesn't have any nutrient properties, because last time I checked humans lack the ability to absorb any meaningful nutrition through our skin.
Pilots get out and walk around all the time, lack of a game mechanic be damned. Entering the pod isn't a one-way trip, and it never was. - Verin "Stitcher" Hakatain. |
