Leaving a .5 sec station in a frig fitted for travel with about 25mil of loot on board. I haven't done anything to flag myself. I am a militia member (on home turf). Violence ensues.
Frig destroyed in one volley then prodded. I get back to the system shortly after and the same guy takes a shot at me on the way into the station. He is in a hurricane using t2 guns, so for 25mil I assume it wasn't suicide. I have no real idea what happened but would like to avoid it again. Is there something obviouse I missed? |

Seeing as you were also podded Im guessing you've simply done something that allowed him to kill you, and that you just didnt know better. |

That's what I figured. But I had only just come into system. Had not looted anything not mine, not enen killed any rats. I don't belong to a player corp. perhaps something to do with the militia? He was flagged bright orange and is wanted. When I was about to undock again I was told I was still in a fight ands may not be able to dock again. |

Well... the guy is not part of militia... and it doesn't look like a suicide job. Are you SURE you didn't pick up any wrecks or cans somewhere? Even in another system?
And don't worry about that little pop-up message. After undocking you only have to wait 15 seconds before you can re-dock... unless you aggress him. Change isn't bad, but it isn't always good. Sometimes, the oldest and most simple of things can be the most elegant and effective. |

I can tell you exactly what happened.... you hit the login button..... This is just how EVE is sometimes. Even if you didn't do anything to deserve dieing it's very possible he was just suicide ganking you and seeing if he could get away before Concord showed up.
Many people don't like the fact that High Sec space favors the suicide ganker/pirate but thats probably not going to change anytime soon. All you can do is fit things to increase the lock time or try to tank better so Concord can come save you before you go boom. |

He's in an alliance that is in the Militia (Caldari)
He was a wartarget, so could legally shoot you. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Rule number one. You are. Never safe...annywhere. In fairness, leaving faction warfare (the Militia) and reading up on what it's about before you re-join would be a good idea.
You would have been safe(err) otherwise, for the reasons you actually gave. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. I'll probably stay in fw. I would rather learn the hard way. |

That's the spirit! Surprisingly, the handbook is quite clear about it:
Quote:Since all corporations in a particular empire faction are permanently at war with their enemies, FW players may be attacked anywhere by their faction opponents . The exact difference between player corporations and FW Militias are explained below.

Awesome attitude.
To elaborate - yes, you are actually "mostly" out of harms way. For the enemy faction to enter your highsec they need to tank the faction police, which gets harder in 0.8-1.0 than in 0.5 .. where a passive drake can do it easily.
It's common in certain areas. For instance, Hek is 0.5 and a very busy spot AND is near FW lowsec, so regularly sees people camping the station.
See if you can't rustle up a few local militia buddies and form a plan to gank him. If he's aggressing random frigates this may not be too hard. - "Do not touch anything unnecessarily. Reported for trolling on multiple threads. And no kill is listed on evekill so didn't happen or you are to afraid to post with your main Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Yeah, there are some people camping that undock pretty often. The Minmatar police in 0.5 space is very slow and weak, and poses little real threat for enemies with determination. Fortunately, there is an easy way to foil them:
Insta-warp bookmarks. These refer to bookmarks that are straight ahead of a station undock. When your ship undocks, it can warp immediately to such bookmarks without going through the align time. I explain this in better detail in a post on my blog (scroll down to "Insta-warp Points"). Currently in Hek, there are some corp advertising containers that can serve this purpose , but don't depend on them always being there.

As you make violence upon your enemy factions, you will find that it is enormously advantageous to create your own "instant-undock" bookmarks, and to also try to get your hands on your enemies "instant-undock" bookmarks.
Change your "instant-undock" frequently. Rabble Rabble!! |
