So I have been keeping an unused account for a very long time now, but I realized some time ago that I am not going to play actively any more, so I finally want to cancel it.
I am pretty sure though, that once I do that, I am not going to resubscribe again. So I've been thinking for a while now about how to leave properly, without having all the assets go to waste. There are about 2bil on the EVE Bank account, and this character has a bit over 30m skill points.
I am not in a corporation right now who I could donate the stuff to. Donating everything to an entity like EVE University is a possibility, but also a bit boring. If I give it away, I'd rather give it to someone or something to whom it really makes a difference. One thought I had was to sell the character and put everything on EVE Bank, just to see it grow in case I would ever want to try the game again. But since this is such a low possibility, this is also not very tempting.
So I guess what I am asking is, "who wants to have my stuff?" Any suggestions?

Well if you give it to me, it goes to other people.
Atleast those who know, know that i've pretty much got 2 cents to my name while my "giving isk to peeps" counter has reached silly numbers.
I'm no chribba though, which should be your chosen "player entity".
He's always giving stuff away and hosting eve-files is no small feat either.
Though his need for more isk could be disputed
Best option is to store it away ust in case you do decide to return, you never know, no matter how it may seem now, how you'll feel in a year.
In any case, don't destroy your characters if anything else.
Good luck out there, fly safe and avoid the griefers, we'll keep a light on the porch

Well obviously I'd like your stuff. Not the isk, just the skills to access more of the game before I die of old age. But why not sell the character? Spend the cash to treat someone you care about irl.

I would ask but then there is more people who could use it more then i could.
So i would suggest giving it to the likes of EvE Uni or that other training corp//alliance (forgot your name sorry!)
Anything left over your could throw my way if you like, if not good luck and have fun with rl o/

Keep it. I have taken long breaks and come back to eve 3-4 times. I'm having more fun playing now than ever. Something may come out in an expansion in the future that makes you want to play again.
You will quite possibly regret giving it away after a while.

You mean for real money? I'm pretty sure that's not allowed, so I'm not going to bother. :)
I also don't feel so good about having someone else represent this character, but if I ever try the game out again in the future, I would probably prefer to start from the beginning anyway (and just play casually).
I think what I might be doing is to give the character to E-Uni to do with as they please (most likely sell and use the ISK I would think) and give the 2 Bil to whoever writes the most interesting / convincing reply in this thread.

I was thinking like that a couple of years ago about the time I stopped playing. :) As things are going, it is not likely that I would even want to get addicted to an online game again. And if the game has something truly great to offer in the future, then it should be just as interesting to play with a fresh character.

I would suggest keeping the character, just get rid of every penny you have and let the account die or even biomass the character. even do a scavenger hunt maybe ? with all your stuff. Goto a starter system and drop a 100m in every new players wallet.

Buy a CNR and fit it with smartbombs. Spend the rest of the isk on some juicy faction mods.
Park the CNR at a suitable range from Jita 4-4, announce in local that you are giving away free stuff. Drop one module at a time in a can for the vultures to pick up. When enough people are humping your ship set off the smartbombs. Thus leaving EVE in style.

I know two people who sold their 3 similar to yours characters on Ebay, they gained about ú675
Once the EULA is no longer your concern, you don't need to abide by it. And ú675 buys you a lot of cake.

That is actually a really good idea. Might be a fun thing to do when I have some spare time. I'd rather not biomass the character, before that I would give it to E-Uni (if they want it) and ask to find her a good home, using the proceeds as a donation.

Interesting hmm?
Well let me tell a story about a dream to help grow this into the largest market controlling corporation in Highsec, from there create an alliance and link up with all the other forces in Highsec to drive out pirates from Lowsec and Goons from Nullsec :D
And it all starts with a generous donation to a humble budding manufacturer

Isn't it? I thought it was. Nevermind then. I just thought it would be nice to do something for a loved one with the time invested in EVE. I'd seriously consider violating the EULA (and especially if I was leaving the game) to do that, if it made someone I cared about happy for a day or two with a new toy or some quality time. The trouble is now its been advertised on the forums it would probably get banned or something? So its looking like thats out. :(
I think, ruling out that possibility, I would keep the account in stasis until such a time as I renewed my interest or I met someone who could benefit from it personally. Giving it to someone seems unlikely to enrich anyone's life in game or build or encourage new relationships and mutual good times. It'll probably, call me cynical of course, wind its way into someone's personal assets. I'm a bit duvious about charity and especially in mmos.
What could you do with the isk? That's a tough call. If you enjoy it, you could give it away, or keep it in the bank and use it as a trust fund to sponsor new players you run in to and who's values/outlook/attitude you identify with. Or start a corporation and put it into a wallet for something similar. Give the CEO ship to someone you trust implicitly (not many I'm sure) to do that for you. Invest it into assets maybe? Use the money you make from it to buy PLEX and give them away to people .. or just buy some for your friends and anyone who ever helped you or showed you kindness in the game or gave you good avice etc. Look them up and give them a present.
Hehe come to think of its always going to be tough. There's not a lot of options is there? I like the idea of an in-game foundation/corp designed to find worthy people and enhance their experience by providing support etc. but I don't like the idea of just giving it all to someone like EVE Uni as I really doubt it will ever find its way into the pockets of new players or worthy folk. But that's just my hangup. :P
Personally speaking as a relatively new player, giving me lots of isk wouldnt enhance my enjoyment of the game. If anything it would detract from it, reducing the challenge and the roi on time put in. Likewise giving established players more isk might be just as counter productive. Especially since many would immediately run out and spend it on battle ships with which to grief others etc.
No I'm sticking with my original suggestion, start a new corp, inject the cash into it, get someone you trust to use it as a platform to introduce and support new players. That's what I'd do. I'd probably also look to setup a second account to avoid the tedium of sitting around while science and industry skills train ..
Sorry, not very original or insightful tbh. Meh.

Edited by: Some Advisor on 07/08/2009 12:05:51 you could sell the character hmm.. but you prolly come back sooner or later... Eve is evil
if you have assets in form of blueprints or other "non consumables" and LEND (yep thats right) it to me, you have my word that i give it back to you if you decide to come back later, assuming iam not banned or so :)
for money and other consumables, i should be able to give parts of it back if you decide to come back.
and i never got stuff so far :(
also. if youre in npc corp and have over 2b isk, oyou can send a corp mail (costs 2b) and have some fun with confuzed ppl :P

Whilst this is rather tempting, I neither feel like breaking the EULA (as I have no quarrels with CCP), nor some random auction winner to represent this character. It's amazing how much people pay for a character though. I always thought that the slow progression is half the fun.

Now that is a great way to ruin it for new players as the result likely will be LOLkillmails with battleships fitted with civilian modules.

I could write a maxed-out character post detailing why I would be a suitable candidate for the 2 billion, but I know it would neither be entirely accurate nor worth the read. So i'm simply going to ask, politely, "May I have some of your possessions before you depart?" _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

You can always give it to me. Then you could look up your character on youtube every now and then to see how it's doing. I like to post short movies there all the time :)
