Since the last patch, ratting in Providence has worked very differently. It's become almost impossible chain the belts, and revenue by everyone in my corp and alliance is way down. Many of us are moving back up to high sec, since level 4 missions pay better. What changed?
It seems like the spawns go away quickly. One system that seems to be doing ok is one that has a lot of people in the system on a regular basis. Are rats going away when the number of the pilots in a system is low? Is this a part of the performance tweaks of the last patch?
The price of salvage and rigs has been going crazy, and I'm wondering if a part of this might be that fewer ratters are bringing salvage to the market.
WHAT CHANGED?!?!

I've noted that spawns warp between belts with much greater rapidity.
It's still possible to chain, but they don't seem to stay in a belt for more than 2 or 3 cycles. Before I realized what was going on, I broke a whole boatload of my own chains, not realizing that this new spawn that only had 1 BS, was actually the 3 bs spawn from a couple of belts away which had moved and had not yet fully respawned.
It's WAY more difficult to share ratting space because it's almost impossible to keep tabs on what chains they've got and what you've got, and to know when the spawn you're seeing is a chain or not. It's quite hard to chain now even if you're all alone in a system.
It does still work however... it's just way the heck harder to keep track of, and even then accidents happen all the time.
They've definitely nerfed chaining again with this modification because it now requires so much more effort for the individual pilot and is nearly impossible with shared belts.

This has gotten bad. Many ratters that I know are relocating because they can't make the money needed to support PvP.
Here's what seems to be happening:
1. Systems with a high population have more spawns, and they are better spawns than normal. 2. Spawns are not staying in a belt when the BS's have been destroyed. They leave and are replaced with new spawns. 3. Ratting alone in a system is NOT usually a money-maker.
I'm kinda wondering what to do myself. It's much harder to make money to replace tech 2 pvp ships than it was before the last upgrade.

I have to say I disagree, I can spend all day flying round a 20+ belt Providence system, and keep the chains going as easily as ever - I've never seen a single spawn warp out.
The system in question gets busy at weekends, but by 'busy' I'm still only talking 10-15 people, and the spawns stay healthy enough.
The only times I've had problems with chains is the odd player popping in and not following the guidelines.

Cayell,
10 to 15 people is enough to change the spawns. One of my corp mates rats in BK4, which is normally reasonably crowded. He says when the people are there, the rats are there. When he's alone in the system, there aren't any rats.
I'm not alone in noticing this. Several in my own corp and others in our alliance are very frustrated.
