A proposal to be able to purchase skill points using loyalty points in the loyalty store. It would make Faction Warfare more intense if there was something actually worth gaining (like skill points). And to all those people freaking out reading this, it would not be a 1 to 1 trade in ratio. Nah. To purchase 100,000 skill points would take 2 million loyalty points. Again, I believe this would make FW more interesting and intense considering the number of people who would become involved. One thing to remember is that skill points must NEVER be able to be purchased from the outside using cash. (Cash = Plex = Isk.) However, the benefit to loyalty points is that they can only be EARNED in the game. Not purchased like Aura or Plex. And CCP already has a Loyalty Points store set up. All that would be needed is to add another product - skill point packages.
Basic Package - 100,000 sp Price - 2 million loyalty points. Standard Package - 500,000 sp Price - 9 million loyalty points. Advanced Package - 1 million sp Price - 15 million loyalty points.

It will be unfair for any player to get extra skillpoints with any mechanic that all players cannot enjoy. Playing time, ISK, RL Cash, FW LP, Kill Ratio, whatever.
I think a better idea might be to let us remap our attributes at uniform intervals. One year increments might be good. Maybe throw in a gift remap for all payers at Christmas or something.

Not another one of you people. Seriously, where do you all come from?
No buying skill points. Ever. In any fashion. Not with LPs, not with Aurum, not with ISK, not with cash. If you want immediate satisfaction, go play some other game where everything is handed to you and thus means nothing at all. The skill system in EVE is unique. You can't buy your way up the ladder. You can't grind your way through levels, though you can certainly grind your wallet to obscene levels. You can train skills more or less at the same pace as anyone else, providing you efficiently manage your training.
Another thing to keep in mind. Skill points are not the end all be all of EVE Online. While not having skills might limit what ships you can fly or what modules you can fit, it really takes very minimal time to train the minimum requirements for most things. Most newer players are not at the immense disadvantage against older players that they think they are. The difference between someone like me who spends 30 days training for a 2% rof/damage bonus and someone who spends four days training for the same weapon falls within a statistical margin of error where individual skill, not skill points, is more likely to be the determinant factor in the outcome.
Having a whole lot of skill points isn't always that much fun. On this character I can pretty much fly any ship, any race, use every weapon system effectively, short of capitals, which I loathe something fierce. But I spend the majority of my play time on any one of my many alt accounts that have far less SP. For me at least, they tend to be more fun. Though never quite as much fun as my early days of EVE when "unlocking" a new ship or module was something new and exciting, something to look forward to as the days and hours on the skill menu counted down ever so slowly. And when they finished? A sense of accomplishment.
Rambled on enough. To reiterate my opinion on your proposal, hell no. My counter proposal? Take my initial advice and find another game to play that better fits your need for instant gratification and meaningless "level ups". |

Instead, how about skillpoints for causing skillpoint loss? I mean why should mission running be rewarded out of all professions? Why not the honourable and ISK sinking profession of pod-killer?
Seriously though: no Malcanis' Law: Any proposal justified on the basis that "it will benefit new players" is invariably to the greater advantage of older, richer players.

******* terrible idea, often suggested and will only end up forcing people to mission *****, at the cost of all that other fun ****.
If this was to happen, i would want to see the LP store completely removed, LP cuts across the board for every mission at every level, and for all other in game professions to pay out "teh **** ton" of isk, while mission rats become bounty and lootless. Complete removal of LP from Incursions and FW.
Then we could start beginning to even consider it as "not as utterly **** idea" I lied :o

People have forever been against this sort of thing, which is mildly ironic when you take everything in the game as a whole. They somehow managed to get every freak and creep in the universe in this one game, and then somehow managed to let them take it over, and then they somehow managed to stick us right smack in the middle. |

If this were to be accepted I think Incursion runners would benefit most, especially those that haven't spent any of their earned LP's. Not sure if they nerfed LP gain at all but it would still be a massive advantage to Incursion runners / Mission runners (although I'm a runner of both myself).
I still vote no, as many people have said, Eve's skill training system is unique and buying SP would completely ruin it imo. |

You should be able to remove skills with Aurum only.
Say you want to clean up your skillsheet.

I don't Blitz missions, mind you, but 2 million lp is such a high cost, I wouldn't even consider this as an option.
This idea is great, but naturally for people who have a time advantage over others, they won't support it. Any suggestion that player effort be convertible to enhancing your skills in a direct way is taboo around these parts. Maybe people just don't want the game to be like others. It's too cool to be different for no valid reason. And no, there is no valid reason. This proposal enhances skill training without altering the fundamentals of it. |

It's almost worth suggesting ideas like this for the entertainment gained from all the know-alls, 'streetwise' (lmfao!) and generally up-their-own-arse types responding with evermore "I'm soooo clever" reasons why it's a bad idea.
The best ones are the dickheads who just say "no" with no reason why not.
A close second are those who pretend to come up with a reason as an excuse to attempt to display to the reader just how worldwise they are. Usual result is to look like a complete prat.
As a way to kick FW it has possibilities, though I'm not sure a straight LP->SP swap would be the way. It would probably kill the warfare bit of the FW as people would be running mish for the LP.
HOWEVER, having SP as a prize for achieving something FW-related might be an idea. Off the top of my head, something like controlling a system for a day is rewarded. The mechanics would need to be considered but it would make it worthwhile joining the militia.
Regardless of what is implemented, the so-called veterans of the game will hate anything to be implemented that they didn't have when they started to play. "Dinosaurs" is a euphemism for people incapable of adapting to new conditions, so the whining is to be expected. It's not, however, a reason not to consider new things for the game. As I said at the start: at the least it lets us laugh at the whining vets.

https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=90449 can see why you agree.....
Why should people who can get on the game more progress with more SP? Hardly fair on ALL the casual players.
You have isk to use as a measure of how well / much you play the game.
Elsbeth Taron wrote:HOWEVER, having SP as a prize for achieving something FW-related might be an idea. Ergo, if you don't FW you lose?

On topic - If you could ever grind for SP most of the casual players would quit as they can't compete with people who can stay at home and play eve all day. How it is now, everyone gains at the same rate so it is equal for all. If you want to grind either run level 4's or go play WoW. Either way, do X for SP is never going to happen.

I will add to the chorus of "No".
Obtaining new SP for anything other than time would break the skill system of the game. At the moment there are two ways you can increase the rate at which you learn skills: (i) planning; and (ii) risk. You are rewarded for planning out your skill learning by using your neural remaps efficiently, keeping the off-plan skill trains to a minimum. This restricts your training options as a consequence. Or you can risk the use of more expensive implants. If you want to learn a skill faster you either remain docked up or suffer the cost when you are podded.
Of course, a player may wish to exchange their time spent learning skills by selling the character on the bazaar. That is their choice and they pick the price.
So "No". Seriously, no. |

And the new people just want it to be easier.
You also fail to understand why we "whine" about things like these. It has nothing to do with adapting or not having certain things. The Issue is that being able to grind for SP severely undermines a unique aspect of eve that separates the game from all others.
Most "vet" players take pride in eve being the way it is, because it does, for the most part, keep eves community from becoming heavily diluted with the ilk of the mass majority of mmo players.
Grinding for SP would invite alot of the wrong people and would end up steering away from the experience that the "Vets" have come to love, or at the very least, accept.
Oh btw, NO It's also important to remember that this is a signature. |

1. Obtain FW loyalty points 2. Use market to convert LP to ISK 3. Look at character market 4. Purchase a replacement character with more SP 5. ????? 6. Profit
Can already be done with existing game mechanics, so this is a non-issue.
If, on the other hand you want to acquire SP even more easily, it would break the game. No more feeling of consequence, no more casual play, no more long term decisions, so yeah not a great idea.
Also, older players would invariably farm LP better than you. This makes any argument using the new/old skillpoint gulf invalid, as any method requiring in-game activity will make the gulf bigger not smaller, fact |
