And here now, a little late, is a dark story about a darker story, and about a man who desperately tells himself stories. And possibly a dog, or not.
This is a new entry in our chronicle series, (usually) published on Monday every other week.

Err ...
And what has that to do with Eve? It could be set into any other environment.
Also that style of storytelling isn't of my liking. I prefer the old-fashioned stories where some actual plot is told in more or less easy enough words and figures. But everyone to their own.

Another work for the Utterly Cryptic(tm) product line. But I liked this one. At least this time only the plot is cryptic, not the actual narration.
Besides, the "Scene.start(3357);" typo is just lovely.
And a nice jab to all the peons thinking that in 44'000-odd AD we won't still be using command line interfaces! Shell rules! --- Kat :: Recruitment :: Hikage Corporation |

The plot is actually pretty straightforward; it's just all in flashback. The guy did some bad things, and he's reimagining them...

If computers are still programmed like that in the future, I'm so going to toss something out of the nearest airlock
Inconsistencies:
Scene.interrupt;Scene.delete(3396); [->User]Confirm deletion? Confirm;
Doesn't give any feedback.
Capture.erase; [->User]Confirm capture? Confirm; [->User]Capture erased?
Gives "Capture erased?" as feedback (why the question mark?), but erasing a capture would be less significant than erasing a scene, so why doesn't scene deletion give feedback? ---

Yeah! :) I would like to set a few things right from my past life and experience it in that virtual world.
Can we our selves do this in game someday? 3D on my computer screen would be fine :)
I like the stories that let me experience down in the depths of the actual EVE society.
I could imagine this one being part of a larger story. The scene change wording that sounded like computer talk was a little hard to follow but I got used to it half way through. It did help to set the mood.
The story of what he was experiencing made sence as it seemed he was looking how his life would be if things were different and then he was a capsuleer and at least we get to already do that, we is lucky there. Thank you for the stories CCP Abraxas. I love reading your stories and imagine living in them, someware...

I always thought that neural remapping might have an effect on your personality. I didn't consider that it might be able to influence your personality on purpose.
Something making you depressed? Snip-snip, get out and enjoy the world!

Poor "dog." So the 3390's are the actual (or what he wishes were actual) flashbacks? And the others scenes tend to involve being able to fix problems or understand people. I get the impression that he wasn't very good at dealing with the important people in his life, and so decided to fix the "problem" in a very bad way. But I don't understand scene 3396 though, specifically the part about messages. Please Explain!

Here's a spoiler I wrote earlier for another clever person.
SPOILER . . .
This self-aggrandizing guy is a little messed up in the head. In real life, he met a young single mother, got to know her, eventually started dating her. The relationship, unfortunately, started to sour. The child annoyed him, while the woman spurned his touch and eventually broke up with him. He didn't like that, so he started keeping watch on her - stalking her - and eventually broke into her apartment.
Where he accidentally woke up the kid. And panicked. So he did something he can never undo.
And now he's hidden himself away in an emulation chamber of sorts, endlessly reliving his own version of the story, recasting those events into fictional situations where he's in the right or where they turn out a little different. Every one of those scenes corresponds to a real event, and the kind of person he plays in those scenes tells you a lot about his emotional attitude towards them.
There was never a dog.

I'd say that it's not so much a story about the pod-pilots as it is about how the rest of the universe looks at us. In all the preceeding scenarios, something didn't quite sit right with the protaganist, but when his dreams turn towards becoming a godlike pod-pilot, suddenly everything is right in his world.

Aaah, I misread the line about getting his message answered so I didn't see the break-up and stalking aspects. I quite liked this story. I kept wondering what the point was until I got to the line where the kid is "happy and alive." At which point I thought, "That's a weird thing to say... wait... Abraxas, you're awful!" When are we going to get a story that's not depressing? It's been a few months, hasn't it?

I love stories that you can't tell what's real or imagined (up to a point of course), as long as the character believes his senses then we should go along with it - a trip through paranoia lane, without the use of mind altering drugs.
I also like the holodeck (please tell me there's gonna be holodecks in the future) as they will be the last invention on earth and that's when pod technology (or non-spaceship alternative, let alone warp capable, whichever comes first), will be most useful.

Great read. A dreamer, a regular Joe with dreams (which became delusions) of grandeur.
And now he's found something that will let him believe they are true. Well done.

The story isn't at fault, just your lack of understanding. This is a virtual world where this guy can re-live memories as he wishes they were, alter the experience until they're how he likes, and also experience fantastic fictional scenarios. At the end of this story his dream scenario is to be a capsuleer, something we all take for granted. It repeats the point made in multiple other chronicles about the huge divide between normal people and capsuleers, how our lives are considered a dream and our existence god-like.
All together, this story is a nice re-iteration of that idea, reminding us all what we are, and how different we seem to non-capsuleers.
