Wouldn't this be perfect for dreads? It has to be expensive ships, otherwise the battlefield on the planets would be completely impossible to walk around on due to constant bombardment by battleships and their tach II's.
That way dreads could be useful for other things than cap vs. cap fleets and titan-gank fleets.

Not releasing this for PC is a loss in revenue, not to mention stupid, since Eve fans play it on their PCs, they are the most likely people to buy this new shooter, yet CCP is only releasing for consoles? Wake up!

Originally by: zombiedeadhead The issue that perplexes me, is one that arises from the USP of EVE, the single server. A console FPS is going to be so far away from this, that I can't see how they will integrate satisfactorily. I would imagine that at most, each map for the online console players would have a maximum of 64 players, so would that be say, one base on a planet, or one planet, or what. So Dust would be a large number of servers, with a small number of players on each.
Then, if a group of players 'conquer' a planet, how do they move to another, if they are transported by EVE players, then they are going to get ganked mid-space without any interaction on their part. They would just respawn and think WTF. Maybe there is some independant transport system, which will not appear in the EVE universe, in which case, the integration fails.
I am open to any new ideas in the game, although I've always been a bit 'meh' about WIS, but I cant get my head around this announcement. Want more info please !
Don't think in terms of cod4, think in terms of planetside. CCP has the technology for a massive battlefield filled with hundreds of players after all.

I'm in for November 11, 2017
I think they are much closer to release than they expected last year. That is why WiS had to be postponed and the sovereignty changes taken care of in the winter patch.
EDIT: Seeing that that this a product who has been developed primarily by the Shanghai department of CCP it makes me wonder what the Atlanta group is doing (besides writing mission descriptions). Maybe WoD is also much closer to release than anybody expects, though I seriously don't hope CCP will try to integrate that MMO with the EVE universe too.
i predict march/april 2010, since they have said we wont be able to walk in the winter patch.
i predict the schedule to be:
- winter-expansion: sov overhaul - then: Release of COSMOS as the community platform to serve as a universal connection tool between the console players and the pc players - after the winter expansion: last preparations for Dust514 - May/April 2010: Implementation of WiS into eve online as the ingame connection tool between eve and dust, and at the same time release of dust514

Yes they do, but its still a console FPS and they suck IMO, I've not seen a good or even half good console FPS.

If this game does not include the option for ground-pounders to call in capsuleer orbital support, I will be sorely disappointed.

Gave me an idea just there about Caps having to siege even more POS shields to land Dust troops! lol oh gawd.
But I expect that a graphical update to planets will come with Dust 514 ________________________________________________

This is an awesome concept, combining two worlds, and graphics looked nice even though I dont like FPS games as such.
Scary part is how MUCH the players in DUST are able to affect our sovereignty..

talks about planetary interaction, Looks like they have plans of splitting the planets up into multiple instances/hotzones
Kinda sounds like even maby some Master of orion micromanagement going on by the demi gods (and not the console kids)

does this mean walking in stations is or can be hybridized with dust ? How about taking over a station, no longer just shooting posses and then take the station into structure but actual fighting over controll of the structure. --------------------------------------------- Somewhere beyond happyness and sadness, I need to calculate what creates my own madness o/ |

I can see shooting Poses still being just a POS bash. But I could see outpost fights being completely awesome. ________________________________________________

They talked about storefronts in WiS, why would a pod pilot need a storefront? we only need a hangar...
smells like WiS might be the commonground for dust and eve-o |

All I can say is you better make it available on the PC too. I have a Wii, but it's to keep the wife in shape, not for gameing. I never touch the thing. Last console I owned was a Nintendo... as in an NES.

Well I have a Nintendo 64, Gamecube, PS2, Xbox, Xbox360. So I'm quite happy with a 360 release. ________________________________________________

I would like to say that the mere idea of having two entirely separate games on two entirely separate gaming systems that interact seamlessly in the same persistent world - that makes me grin and applaud. Seriously, how whacky do you have to be to come up with that? I can't think of anyone but CCP who'd not only design but also actually implement something like this. And regardless of all other factors, this attitude scores so many Cool Points in my book.
I'm going to leave the discussions to you people and lean back gleefully and watch it unfold. And after all, nobody ever said there won't be a PC version. They only said they can't comment YET on why they have not YET announced a PC version... ;)

Imagine ...
- dust members and eve members being in the same corp / alliance
- dusties and evies sharing the same resources and chats
- dusties capturing research and industry facilities on the planets which then can be used by the corp/alliance
- dusties setting up factories and mines on the planets which can be used by the eve universe
- evies building supplies for the dusties and doing logistics for them
- rankings of all the dust teams (efficiency etc.) so that evies can hire the best teams they want
- setting up a blockade at a planet so that no hostile supply ship can supply the dust teams on the ground -- and busting up such blockades with your fleet
Just to show a few possibilities.
I think this has HUGE potential. If only CCP will do it right ...

Isn't this also the first console FPS that can actually be played by 360 and PS3 users connected to the same server? Xbox Live and PS Home is not very compatible at all.

A quote from the release notes for Aprocrypha 1.5
Quote: Specialized Cargo holds - Fuel bays on black ops We are introducing a system that allows us to author specialized cargo holds on ships. We will start by adding fuel bays on black ops and possibly other ships. This means weære adding more space for your fuel, without the ships becoming horribly unbalanced haulers of death. The technology behind this opens up doors to making other types of bays, just for ammo, just for livestock or whatever. Those options will be explored in future expansions.

Man though it's only a wish, it would be awsome if we could drive players from planet to planet.
Dear Passengers this is your pilot speaking. We should be approching the planet in 10 min, if i entered the right destination that is (lol).
10 min later....
The trip will take a bit longer than expected, but nothing to wory about i even brought you a damsell in destress for your pleasure only (auto-pilot afk).
Dear passengers, if you look to your left, you will see how beautifull this universe realy is, and on the right you can see a big pirate battleship shooting at us. And yes the sound you just heard is indeed cracking of our hull. Thank god for clones eh? Oh you don't have them. Hmmm farewell then :D.
