I ponder how this will alter the entire way alliances protect their territory?
Also I am curious how it will affect the balance of EVE, no offense to console gamers here but in my experience console gamers are not quite as intelligent as PC gamers... putting the two together in one universe, even if it's separated by the "atmosphere" could be explosive.

I imagine that's not quite how they envision this working - they can't force alliances to buy the console game to secure their space. More likely this adds in to FW - the FW systems will now be influenced by planet control as well as the traditional Eve mechanic (or whatever they change it to to accommodate dust)

I was expecting something like this. This is the kind of innovative thought that I dearly miss from Blizzard.
Of course the ground game should be completely separated from the spaceship game. Obviously spaceship captains do NOT run around in the mud shooting at each other, especially not pod pilots. But through the awesomeness that is the EVE market system the two game worlds can connect. People on the ground might need resources that people in the sky have to ship to them and the other way around too. And there are lots of other possible interconnections too.
This is just another brilliant example of how the world of EVE drips of creative potential and it is a pleasure to see that CCP (unlike some of its smaller minded playerbase) understands to take advantage of is. ---------------- Mr. Science & Trade Institute

as long as they don't f**k up the canon, I'm not complaining. Obviously capsuleers are still the elite. Otherwise we seriously need a ship that can blow up planets... or just let people doomsday planets.

CCP's Petursson hope that "these communities will meld over time", expecting specific Dust 514 corporations to start with, but eventually social structures that bridge across the two. He quipped of the new game and the relationship between the two titles: "While the fleet does the flying, the industry does the dying."
I don't see this happening at all. The console gamecrowd is very different from the current Eve ppl. I don't mind them doing another game, but don't connect it to our universe...

EVE is great cause its a sandbox and we can do whatever we like, but if an FPS on another gaming platform is intergrated, we can't control 50% of the game anymore...

This!
Imho, I think this is the 1st time CCP made a major mistake in their design vision for EVE Online.
I hoped that eventually we, the EVE Online players, would be able to do something on the planets, now this priviledge is going to consoles?
When other mmo's made their mistake, it was the beginning of the end. ( DAoC ToA, SWG CU-NGE, ... )

100% agree, it's *******s to those who cannot afford a Xbox 360, live subcription AND a sub to this game while also paying their EVE accounts.

If done correctly this could be great, obviously the fleets and armies are normally separate but in contact. Id rather full integration rather than a lack luster attempt to keep them from affecting each other.

When have you ever been able to control the planets in EVE? Right now they are mostly eye candy waiting for a proper purpose.

Very well put. I don't care for consoles, nor for FPS games anymore. It's a shame if our gameplay would be affected in any way by people on a console game .

when they give me the ability to sit in a high level orbit and reign fire from heaven on the console crowd I'll be 100% behind this... fleet opps to defend ground troops and blockade planets etc. would add value to the game and give us back some sand.
Assume console players wouldn't approve of random death strikes from orbit or having to make friends with eve alliances to get their planet blockaded...

Depends on the details doesn't it. We can't do **** with planets now, so we aren't exactly losing anything. If 0.0 sovereignty is tied to what happens in another game, this is so fail I don't have words for it. My guess is, that they combat for the control of empire planets and systems. The standards no death penalty MMO, where combat happens on battlegrounds. But we shall have to wait and see.

The possibility that one day we, the EVE players, would be able to do something with the planets, is one of the reasons why I committed long term to EVE Online ( that and WIS ).
Now this vision is shattered, if this goes wrong, I will only have Ryzom left :(

Go ahead and release this on the consoles and tie it to EVE.
But give us a damn PC version as well. Otherwise this is utter crap. And yes, I do own Xbox 360 myself and it is great for specific types of games - that is not the issue - the issue is the constant disregard of PC as a gaming platform, especially for titles that are played best on the PC.
FPS-RTS? I wouldn't want to play EITHER of those game types on a gamepad. If someone wants to, no problem - give them console version - but let me play the damn thing on a PC as well.

This was about a new game, not EVE online! Im sure we will hear more about WiS/Ambulation during fanfest in a few months!
When it comes to this Dust game, I wish CCP all good luck. I wont be playing it myself tho since I manically loathe FPS games, strategic or not.
