OK after getting this socket error i started doing some testing and seems an old piece hardware solved my problem.
So after using a wireless dongle (netgear wg111v2) i roughly got a socket error 90% time. So me thinking its an old piece hardware went out and bought a Linksys Wireless N300 PCI Dual-Band Adaptor. Again i was getting the socket error 60% time. So i decided to use a mobile dongle even worse on socket errors in fact mobile dongles are so bad eve isnt playable for more then 3 mins. Soooo after all that i only had one piece of hardware left. It was a wireless range extender very old one to today's standards (sitecom wl-130). so i set this up to connect and relay from my router as i Cant directly connect to my router and well not 1 and yes i mean not 1 socket error or disconnect. Now i have been testing this on and off over the last 2 weeks to make sure and it works a treat.
So if this is an isp problem ccp how come both the netgear wg111v2 and a brand new Linksys Wireless N300 PCI Dual-Band Adaptor gets socket errors's yet a sitecom wl-130 connected to the same router (and internet) then connected vie Ethernet to my pc doesn't get 1 disconnect. Also note that i don't get any disconnects in any other online game or even when im playing BBC i player all completely fine on all the hardware i mentioned above.
Also note that even though my wireless range extender is plugged in vie eithernet it still uses a wirelss signal for the internet off my router.
Also uk based.

To the 'its wireless' ppl....were you getting this using that same 'crappy' wireless before inferno? My guess is no.
This is a mass problem that has only popped up after Inferno. CCP changed something in the code is my guess, to make it less 'tolerant' of non-stellar connections.
I have a great internet connection, to everywhere BUT Eve related things. Today i experienced something like 8 socket closed errors in about 20 minutes. http://blog.beyondreality.se/shift-click-does-nothing -á-á < Unified Inventory is NOT ready... |

nope!!! it isnt steam

I went and did a total re-installation of my desktop full format installed windows 7 64 bit again then installed eve fresh
still getting the socket errors pretty often in fact i got a whole 5 minutes before first one hit after the fresh installs
ccp needs to get in touch with century link and the other ISP's their client refuses to get along with and work out the issues
i mean seriously did the big mean ISP say ur servers look fat or something ?
if i am unable to find a free way to fix this issue to make eve actually playable then i will have to just unsub all my accounts and stop playing i cant afford to go with the more expensive ISP just cause ccp wants me to.
maybe its a conspiracy with cable and ccp to keep the rest of us down :( |

Any updates on this?
I can't keep connected reliably for any length of time. I have cleared all my caches. My network is incredibly stable unless Eve is closing sockets. I agree with the above sentiments. I have 5 paid accounts and not being able to enter space for fear of another loss is making me reconsider how I spend my money.

I'm in UK and I get socket errors a lot. I also have issues where the whole client will become unresponsive while the server still thinks I'm playing. It won't let me shut down the program and I lost an expensive ship because of this. Considering unsubscribing as I cannot make progress if my ships get blown up faster than I can earn the isk to replace them.
Also it's not just the game client. This forum is also laggy as hell for me sometimes, but every other website loads fine. |

i also had the unresponsive client yesterday, wouldnt let me close the client(s). was hanging for around 30 seconds while trying to close the program before it worked again.
also alot of socket errors yesterday. I think mostly on clients running in the background. i.e not on the client im actually playing...

Right now speedtest is reading 6mb, which is lower than it should be, but still fine for playing games yet Eve is still lagging sporadically and so is this forum. I'm new to troubleshooting so in the immortal words of CCP GingerDude "Please Be Gentle"
I was getting the socket closed error repeatedly and remembered from a networking class that this error can be caused by port conflicts.... So I did a little poking around my computer.
Here's what I did and so far haven't had a socket closed since (2 days as of this post):
Went into my firewall settings (standard Windows firewall for me) Did a little housecleaning on outdated exceptions Manually added an exception for port 26000 Restarted EVE to try to get a socket closed error to log it Haven't been able to get the socket to close
Let me know if more info is needed I'd be happy to help |

No issues prior to Inferno. Constant since and spiraling into unsub territory.
Actions taken;
- 1 complete Windows (7 ultimate) re-install - 2 complete EVE re-installs - 4 complete (and seperate from re-install) cache / settings clears - too many repair.exe to count (all processes killed prior)
Wired connection. Single unit modem / router. Same ISP for last 3 years. No steam (before and after). Firewall rules? Nice and clean post win7 re-install.
Last night, the night I say 'stuff it.' and fly around purely consolidating random asset spread, no issues.
All other nights in recent memory - absolute minimum of 2 socket, up to a maximum of about 10 within 2 hours before I log in disgust. |

I have been noticing a commonality when I have got closed socket errors. It appears to me the the socket closes and I get disconnected when the chat server gets out of sync with the game server.
Chat is very different from the game. Local chat is the same as the game room you are in. But you also have corp chat and or how many other chat windows open? Fleet etc... Many players in these other chats are not in local with you. I think somehow this chat link gets out of sync and the game disconnects.
Also the dust players are having a far worse time with closed socket errors. The game (dust) is very close to unplayable as the closed sockets hit them 10 times worse than eve. It also appears this is due to a shared chat between platforms. Before the chat was opened from dust to eve disconnects were not that bad in dust. Herr Hammer Draken "The Amarr Prophet" |

Haven't be able to play for months stopped trying many weeks ago. Lost my debit card a a few days ago, my Paypal was obviously out of date. Game sub for both EVE accounts ran out. And you know what? I couldn't find a single f-ck.
This problem started straight after inferno. Frankly the lack of decent forum posts from GMs/Devs is worrying.
Seems the new (same old) go to response is, check your router, call your ISP, disable 'this' or 'that', try again.
Despite a large amount of people experiencing the same problem, with no change to their home setups or ISPs. And the only common occurance being a new patch; I just fail to see why this isn't being taken more seriously.
Won't be wasting my money any longer, my ISP just upped my connection speed last week (over 150% increase 0_o) so I'm busy destroying BF3AK and PS2 and downloading all the beta's I've been neglecting.
Some info for the interested.
ISP: BT Package: Unlimited BB. Location: South West England. Router: Home Hub V2 Connection speed down (avg): 3-3.5mbps (good for SW UK eh?)
Rig: 6 Core AMD Video: GTX 550 (I know right =/) RAM: 4Gb OS: W7
Good luck all, hope your patience endures. Someone near me might be so kind as to send me a PM when they've had more success?

I have also been seeing this error pretty frequently as of late. I run two clients on the same computer; a beast of a machine; and I have found that I will walk away to grab lunch and come back to one client with a socket disconnect error and the other is still connected just fine. I was wondering; how many of you that have posted are running multiple clients on their IP address. Not necessarily on the same system but multiple EVE instances from a single location going through a single router and modem? Anyone here having this problem when playing with only one account signed in through their home network? I am wondering if there has been a bug introduced with the recent expansions that causes connection issues with the server if more than one client is communicating with CCP's servers from the same origin IP address.

I'm starting to think it might have something to do with particular accounts. Yesterday I was on my alt which has never suffered from this error, but after I made an API to join a corp, I had the error twice.
Do you think the problem could somehow be tied to API keys or maybe Eve Gate? |

See this is what makes me think it is chat related. You never had a problem until you joined the corp. What changed? You now have a corp chat. Suddenly you have disconnects. Herr Hammer Draken "The Amarr Prophet" |

I'm still getting this error and still nothing from CCP. Not even an official statement to declare its not something on their end they can fix which seems to be the response some people are getting from them. Even if this is the case surely it's in CCP's interest to help their customers who are suffering from these problems.
I decided to run the console and view the system logs whilst playing to see if that sheds any light. I don't know what it means but hopefully the section below might help someone shed some more light on this. I'm using a macbook running Lion.

I have the same problem with disconnects, Lost connection 3 times in 25 mins. I've just come back after a 7 month break and still the same problems it's not just a inferno issue it's a recurring one they will never fix. Lost sockets have been happening for the last 3yrs that i know off maybe longer. From my experience off it it seems like a turn based thing you can go weeks without it then it's your turn for a month or so then back to smooth running. They will never fix the problem while people are still paying and playing there too busy doing pointless stuff like the captains quaters looks nice and hats off to the designer but it doesn't seem to serve any purpose. |

Add me to the list. It would seem that there are enough people with enough different computer systems having the same problem for as long as three months that we can assume that the problem is with the game. Right? I have played EVE for a month or so here with absolutely no problem. Then today I have been repeatedly booted with this socket closed issue. I have been kicked about 30 times today with a double error message of socket closed and the option to restart the game or quit. I have a browser running, no problem there. I have two other computers running, no issues there. I have a Playstation 3 running, no issue there. I have power cycled the switch, no problem there. Called my ISP, no problem there. The only problem is Eve crashes. Everything else works. Sony Vaio, All in One desktop, I5 processor, windows 7. |
