I've read a bunch of interviews about the presentations and grasped some "facts". Afaik the game is just connected by money, speculations about a connection with "walking on stations" are spread throughout the blogs. As a pc-gamer who also loves shooters I would go freaky about a pc-dust, but if it's not going to happen, I'd like to see a deeper connection than just money. One great thing would be, if the surrounding eve-ships would grant tactical advantages for the soldiers at the ground. The following would be: -ECM/ECCM -Orbital Bombardements(maybe a Dreadnought in the orbit ;) ) -Shield-Transfer for Soldiers and vehicles -Energy-Transfer for the weapons and vehicles of the soldiers
There is surely a lot more, but this would already be a great tactical bonus.

Edited by: Vinsurith Morteth on 18/08/2009 18:01:13 It would be cool if the players on Dust had to be carried to their destination by us players on EVE. And then could also join our corps as well.

heh, we'd get a whole slew of griefers who'd contract them to attack a planet, then jettison them into space JUST outside the atmosphere of the planet they were to attack after a 90 minute voyage..

LOL Then they'd have to come to the forums calling for help that they're trapped in a jet can on there way to Rens and only have about 2 hours of air.

Ah yes, will be something CCP will implement for sure. They wouldn't let ships rain down on the dusters unless they gave us something to counter them. I am assuming these will be capture points. Whoever owns the plasma beam anti-orbital weapon does damage to the selected corp/alliance.
I can see it now. Titans falling from the sky in a blazing glory.

Now that's an awesome idea! Gimme gimme gimme... come get some console players! (and no I dont bash em since I play ps3 to much as well so no bohoo on me now)
Kinda liked the transport idea to and just dump em in space after a loong transport -------------------------------------------------- Please resize your signature to the maximum allowed of 400 x 120 pixels with a maximum file size of 24000 bytes. Ok, the way i see it is we wont have to transport actual players, we will be transporting bases onto planets that we want to capture, set who has access to those bases and thier reward for completing the contract, the console players can jump clone freely between the different bases thier corp/alliance has access to. That would work. I like the trasporting if the Dust troops want to go many systems over. But jumping from 1 corp stucture to the other is smart. Especially since there's no way of knowing how many players will be on Dust at any given time.

so... what happened about atmospheric flight? did it get thrown out the window? cause if not, than that is one way eve players could interact.

There would have to be atmospheric flight or a docking actions (with frigates and shuttles) so eve players could interact...that may be too hard to link pc and console though.

well, FFXI has all kinds of consoles linked together, though its alot simpler.
But im just curious if we arent able to just nuke it from orbit, if we are able to use frigates in the atmosphere and do bombing runs of sorts, guess everyone knows as much as everyone right now though.

What I'd really love to see is deep interaction between the two worlds, ie. fleet fights starting to happen at planets as well because of the need to support ground troops and to secure a ground assault (and to stop an assault fleet), EVE players being able to do planetary bombardments to given sectors in advance to assist the ground assault and DUST players being able to see those 100 ships slugging it out in orbit and perhaps assist the friendly fleet with planetary defence weapons if they happen to be functional and still in control of friendly forces.
Also now that we get a ground aspect to the game(s), I hope there will be a concept of supply lines developed as well. Alliances are getting too big TBH, introducing a supply line mechanic along with planetary & system control would be nice, causing the maintenance of huge territories to become a pain in the butt. With planetary control becoming important I'd love to see large alliances focusing their control more on constellation levels instead of regional levels.
Something like this would be pretty damn cool. I'm pretty excited about DUST, I just hope it'll work. I definitely hope there will be more of a link between these two games than what a simple ISK motivator provides.

The can even make the focus be down to a single solarsystem, depending on the number of planets and moons that are colonizable, and change the way sov borders work.

You clearly have no experience of large 0.0 alliances. The maintenance of huge territories is already huge grind and time sink. Even more so in wartime.

I think you summed it up exactly how i feel about it.
If they can connect the 2 platforms enough so its not a simple contract some marines to do this and that it should turn the eve we know upside down. Especially with the alliances.

I'd love to see the ability for us to create "Missions" for the guys on the ground to capture X planet to increase our Alliance's Sov. Along with the possible interaction of orbit to ground support.

Assuming that the ambulation patch eventually extends to walking on planets as well as stations, I wonder how CCP will handle it. Seems a little hard to have us controlling our avatars via third person and the Dust players controlling their mercs via RTS and first person. ---------------------------

You do realize that there probably won't be a real time connection between the two games right? If there were he would have said so in the keynote speech. Instead he said that the one game affected the other and vice versa. As in a few things will transfer in one way, and vice versa.
For example you might be able to provide tanks, empty clones and objectives for the FPS players, but you won't be able to track them in real time or do anything to help them from orbit. They in turn perhaps capture strategic points, and when they have enough they take over the planet and give a bit of sov to the EVE alliance they worked for.
You see how this really lessens the load on the eve server? instead of syncronizing a massive server with thousands of FPS servers in real time you maybe migrate a few items from the EVE server to an FPS server every hour or so. You have to be a bit realistic here
