Weird, it changed from a 404 to a 503... and now it's a 404 again. |

We have been waiting. They shut the server down to sort it, but it only looks like they removed the dodgy patch and havent put a replacement in. Assume they are going to be shutting the server down again. I bet the guys that are playing are going to love that !

Originally by: GPFS They have a server side issue AND a MAC client side issue. Hence you get the reboot of the cluster, and hence the deleted MAC patch, me thinks.
The Mac patch was deleted like half an hour ago, at least... they should have uploaded the new one before bringing TQ back online but nooooo.
Apparently it takes a long time to upload a ~50 MB file. |

Eve works for me! :D
I was able to patch both of my clients without a problem. (Ok, patched one and copied it.) The only thing was the change to make it start in window mode again. Aside from that, all seems perfect \o/

We're currently taking Tranquility down for a reboot. When it is back up, you will be able to patch again and log in.

I'm running 10.5.7 and I have the problem with the patch will try to upgrade and repatch. If it works I can supply the file for others to download as a torrent.

Well, while I have all you fellow Mac users here, now many of you run two accounts simultaneously in windowed mode? I have two accounts and would like to try this.
I hope we find out what actually caused the problem. I'd be interested to know.

Originally by: Enchai Edited by: Enchai on 20/08/2009 19:48:05 GPFS does have a point tbh re. we pay the same money for a non-native product. I guess this goes to show.
One way to see it is that no one is paying the client. The client(s) are for free to everibody. We all just pay for the right to connect to the server.
However I also think that a native client would be much better. Unfortunately no one will ever develop and maintain such a complex SW using two different 3D APIs. So there's a fundamental choice to be made: either you work with microsoft proprietary APIs or you work with a non proprietary API like OpenGL. If you take the MS way you are giving priority to the majority of your customers and you will find plenty of developers. Cider/Cedega will be your only hope to go multiplatform. If you take the non proprietary road you are penalizing the majority of the customer base (because OpenGL on Windows is not the best implementation) and are going to face problems with different OpenGL implementations not working all the same way. You'll also have more problems in finding developers (especially game level developers: you'll find a lot of CAD and 2D/3D modeling software developers). The benefit is a more portable and more future-oriented code base.
So far, the only "major" MMORPG I know that has been developed in OpenGL is WoW. Things may change in the upcoming years if Mac/Linux platforms do manage to become more common. But only for NEW games (that is those whose initial planning is being done now or is still to begin). And only from companies that are not already heavily invested in MS technology.

I still cant get a newer version of the patch and as no-one has confirmed whether or not the to-be-uploaded patch is actually different from the previously uploaded patch, I'm hesitant to try apply the patch I have lest I be forced to download a new client... after all, CCP could just be re-uploading what they took down. Right?

The reason for the previous estimate of the patch being available after the server reboot being wrong, was that we ran into a another problem distributing the patch.
It is still being worked on.

I have the same problem....
Auto & Manual Patching failed Build 94168 eve[re,oi,[atcj94168-99186-mac.tgz I modified my config file to run full screen. I also have a Singularity build that i modified so it has a separate preferences file. But I seriously doubt that the problem is caused by that. The problem is a corrupted compressed file.
CCP can you please release something temperary for us English speaking guys. All of the corrupted files are all in the languages other than english.
I am going to try to manually-manually patch my client.

How do you do it? How do you launch two instances of the EvE client simultaneously?

I`m afraid my eve payment might be delayed and a lil buggy (not complete) as well. me and my bank are working on it as we speak ,I`m sure it will be fixed in a couple of months
Yeah I know its not funny -but neither is this repeatedly failing software upgrade thing. IŠve been wasting half a day sitting here, reading forums and over and over relaunching the eve client.

Originally by: Razires Can anyone confirm whether or not this really is a new client-side patch? As far as I understood from the last CCP post the server was being taken down to apply a patch to it, not the other way around; and I still have the patch file though, thankfully, I havn't installed it.
The patch that was available before does not work. So do not apply it.
Originally by: Karaun Xavura Apparently it takes a long time to upload a ~50 MB file.
No. It takes a long time to prepare it. Not to upload it. The client is 5 Gb. They must recreate (or restore) the old client exactly as it was (all cases, as there seem to be multiple versions around). Then they must create the new client. Then a special software must compare them all and compute a matematical difference between the byte sequences. Then this difference must be encoded and compressed and a patcher created. Then the patcher must be run against the old versions. Finally the results must be compared to the goal.
If anything goes wrong somewhere, they need to find out why and then start over again.
Finally it must be uploaded to a central server and we must wait for the spiders to replicate it to all the peripheral servers around the world.

I think that the breaking free of MS technology is probably going to be the renaissance of this next decade, if you know what I mean. It's too restrictive, too non-compatible, and very unfriendly to other platforms.
Having said that, the recent previews of this new Gaikai Technology are breath-taking, and I think might be real hope for cross-platform compatibility within the next year or so, never-mind decade. (see http://vimeo.com/5404358 or google it)
