The forums seem a bit dusty lately, so I thought I'd make for a fun change of pace
Heres a bunch of trivia about eve, for some i was there for others i was not (rev 1 and after) the info is mainly concerned with past fotm's and metagames. Feel free to add to the list but plz be constructive (I.E. No "remember how minmatar weren't useless" blah)..
Remember when...
-Sensor damps used to be the best ewar in the game. The arazu was far superior to the falcn, one was able to limit another's lock range to ~0km and increase their lock times to excessively long periods. After they became more or less mandatory on a pvp fit, the nerf bat struck, and it struck hard!
-Drone bandwidth had not been introduced. Although the max amount of drones allowed was 5, if the bay was large enough, any ship could field 5 heavies. The eos, along with nos, could field ogres and used to be more popular than the astarte is now. I remember seeing vid's of an ishkur owning two raven's as it could field 4 hammers + use nos to sustain a very neat little tank! Not bad when most af's were useless back then.
-ECM was lol-terribad. CCP then boosted it to make it 100% chance based . Again, we saw the domi being utilized to full potential, ecm domi's pwned.
-Nos used to be as effective as neuts. Nos was heavily embedded into the metagame of the time. Active tanking was actually viable, gallente were at their prime at this stage. Mega's were the solo kings of eve, and I've seen vids of a deimos ripping through low sec killing anything up to 4 man gangs. Nos domi's were also a force to be reckoned with. This was a dark time for caldari, having no abilility to fit nos + weapons or fit tackle + tank on most ships, the old term "Caldari are PVE only" was once quite popular and semi-merited!
-Damage mods didn't stack nerf. 8 heat sink geddon's bent anything over and proceeded to do indecent things with their posterior
-You could field more than 5 drones. I hear "mini-carrier" domi's were all the rage.
-Launchers could take any missile. E.g condor setups were common using standard launchers to house 1 cruise missile per launcher (yarr alpha)
-Turrets used to have no tracking. BS guns owned everything, rails and arties were particulalry formidable! Frigates got pwned regularly
-Mwd's were one size fits all. One ship (BS's were the funnest/could fit the most) could fit multiple mwd's and I think a scorpion setup existed that could get to about 0.1 au/s..
Lets look at some more recent changes!

More recently..Remeber when..
-Amarr used to be terrible all around. ôAmarr = EVE on hardö was quite relevant back then. The metagame of the time supported active tanking and much cap warfare, em was also a poor damage type to use (before the em resist rebalance). Pulse tracking was meh and the cap-use made realistic setups almost impossible. While some today say that lasers need a nerf, I think its almost merited when some say they deserve their long awaited time in the spotlight!
-Caldari used to have terrible align times. After much whinage about caldari being lolfail at pvp, CCP did some balancing and caldari ships were made the most agile of all races. This was the same balance patch that gave the falcon its new wings (full pun intended), giving rise to the much-hated falcon of yesterday that was the cause of many tears and forum ranting!
And even more recently (for the very new among us, heh)! Surely you remember when!..
-Speeds of over 20km/s used to be possible for hacÆs like the vaga. PolyÆs were one of the best rigs in the game, combined with a set of slaves and u have one badass ship. Webs slowed the target down by 90%, and the solo mega was still persisting even after the nos nerf. Missiles hit for bugger all on small, fast ships, though they dealt maximum damage against ANY target if it was not moving. Warp scamblers didnÆt disable the mwd and even when webbed, ônano-agsö were amazingly tough to catch. Any decent gang required a rapier or hughin if they wanted toactually get kills. After continued whinage for nano-gangs to not be so ôinvincibleö anymore, the nerf hammer struck and the result was the speeds we see today.
-The falcon used to be able to jam from over 250km with ecm as strong as a scorp or rook. The ecm cycle time would continue even if the falcon cloaked, making them indispensable for gang warfare and a must-have for any decent small fleet. Alas, the mighty bird was struck with the hammer of thor (or nerf w/e) and we have what you see today. Regardless, the falcon is still an excellent ship and escaped the nerf relatively lightly.
-The rook was about as useful a blackbird with a nice paintjob. TheyÆd cost around 50 mill and only the bravest (or dumbest lol) flew them. CCP looked kindly upon the caldari recon pilots after losing their beloved uber-falcon, so boosted the rook to the pile of awesome that it is today.
-AFÆs used to be the most disgusting T2 ship in the game. Flying one was the equivalent of flying youÆre mining cruiser to a fleet op, youÆd generally get hated upon or even booted (lol). Sporting terrible agility and worse mass than its t1 cousin, there was genuinely no reason to use one. After MANY years of devout whining, the af finally received its boist resulting in the very useful shipclass of today (despite a few lemons lol hawk)
ThatÆs all for now! How many do you remember? Add more if you can

Funnily enough this was the time when my amarr spec'd alt and my mate could own the living **** out of 10-15man gangs with just the two of us in geddons, and everybody else was whining on the forums about how amarr are "the suck". ------

Don't think so, they could be built in hisec at some point, but the concord firing squad just grows and grows at quite a fast rate until you can no longer tank them.
They made it like that when people started using remote reps to survive the normal concord gang size i think. ------

Edited by: ketharth on 21/08/2009 12:10:34 I rem when ammo range mods didnt work so everyone always fitted the max damage ammo e.g. AM as it hit at the same range as iron or lead.
And the time afte DT when no ship undocking could move over 1m/s due to a small mistype in a script (greatest CCCP cover up story ever - The Jovians where testing a system wide webber that worked to well)
Hmm and when a shield tanked scorp couldn't be taken down by any ammount of enemy BS due the old shield hardening system worked (hence partly to the stacking nerf)(99% dam res to all damage types)
Apoc's where the shield tanking kings due to ammount of low lots for Cr's so could run multi shield boosters non stop
etc etc ;)

I remember when there was no autopilot and you had to look at the map and write down the route you had to take on paper and hope it was correct. This was like beta5 and the game was only about 15 systems. It was still hard though and i messed up alot haha.
I also remember when the HUD didn't show structure, just armor and shields.
I remember arkanor being in high sec.
I remember a time where you were able to avoid being warp scrambled if you activated warp before they were able to point you. All they could do was stare at you while you aligned.
I remember strapping several mwds on a thorax and using the directional scanner to hunt down lost ships and drones. I would fly for days sometimes, but it was worth it.
I'm sure there are more but these stick out to me.

I maxed drone skills on like the day they set it to max 5 :S
I remember a time before barges when mining was a lot more interesting, I also recall a time when veldspar was slightly lower than the price it is now (1.5 isk locally currently), what goes around comes around
I remember when Cap Recharger IIs where expensive rather than ubiquitous and Invulnerability FIeld IIs were 20 million ISK not 2-4
