I'm tempted to install Arch Linux on my Desktop again after having a crash (and installing Windows 7, which, to be honest, kinda rocks =D)
I don't want to do this if I cannot run EVE smoothly. What is the current start of EVE online running under Wine? I remember a few months ago (before they stopped making the official Linux client) that there were various graphical bugs when run under Wine, but these were few and far between and didn't really hinder either performance or gameplay.
Also, if I do install Linux, I'll be installing a x64 version of Arch Linux. Is there current;y any problems running Wine and EVE under a x64 architecture?
Thanks, -- Sable

There are not much problems with running eve these days (at least not with the latest wine on my box). No graphical glitches either (as far as I can notice) and performance is about equal to my old xp's performance.

Edited by: Karak Terrel on 22/08/2009 13:45:28 Eve was very stable for me in the last months. No crashes, no glitches. However, this may strongly depend on the hardware you are using.
As always, it is importent to cherry-pick the wine release you are using for EVE, because there are some regressions sometimes in newer versions. I use 1.1.24 today.
Since Apocrypha, Eve seams to run much faster with wine. This improvement may also be noticed on Windows, i have no idea..
I always use x64, because it makes absolutely no sense today to install a 32Bit Linux. Wine works just fine with a 64Bit OS, never noticed a difference.

Edited by: Rhicket on 22/08/2009 17:11:44 Latest git version has been working great for a week or two now. (I update daily) 1.1.24 works. 1.1.25-1.1.26 do not work. I am under the understanding that 1.1.27 works, but I'm not positive.
edit: and yes, x64 in linux is great. It's absolutely silly to use 32 bit if you have a 64 bit proc on any recent distro.

the main caveat is that things work much better if you have an Nvidia GFX card but if you have a recent card with a decent system, EVE works just fine on linux
