A corp mate of mine recently got hacked, had all his stuff cleaned out, sold by a RMT. then he got banned by ccp for real money trading when he tried to petition it.
"due to current policy RTM ELUA violation result in iresverisble account banning, all data resulting to this account is removed from the servers within 7 days"
He is still trying to resolve it but given the near mythological inability of the gm department to understand human logic and common sense. I think weve lost a valuable corp mate.

CCP can only act on what they have proof of. He's petitioning it, so they'll investigate it, but until then, they have to take action against the RMT they know happened for sure.

There is a moral to this story, I think you'll figure it out...
He purchased isk from an RMT, this is a violation of the EULA.
Good luck.

Nope, He got hacked BY a real money trader, as many people have been lately. that RMT cleaned out his account. then ccp banned him for "Selling his isk for real life cash" which is a violation of the EULA.
In short: He got hacked, hacker cleaned out account and sold it for real life dollars. He got blamed for the whole thing and banned.

Think about it.
While it is possible that he picked up the keylogger from one of the links on the forum (kind of silly, but it happens) in most cases you get keyloggers from purchasing isk from RMT's. If he picked it up on the forums, CCP will clear him.

Encase you have been living under a rock for the past 3 months. their are bad links on the forums that a bunch of key loggers posted lately. CCP recently changed a few forum rules to ban them. their are dodgy files, video's, and scripts all over the internet. even some on eve files, Infact we think we have figured out exactly what he downloaded that got him hacked. It was a torrent on eve files.

"due to current policy RTM ELUA violation result in iresverisble account banning, all data resulting to this account is removed from the servers within 7 days"
If he is claiming that this is the answer he got then he is pulling a fast one on you all.
1. Too many typo's. CCP Don't ban you for "RTM" They ban you for "RMT". What do they care if you "Return to Manufacturer?". Neither do they ban you for ELUA whatever that is, they ban you for breaking the TOS and EULA. 2. CCP Never delete anything from the server, this includes characters, accounts and those dirty chatlogs of you cybering with some newbie minmatar female claiming their "A/s/l" is 16/f/cali. 3. If he genuinely did click one of the myriad of links that are :SO OBVIOUS: and then download a flash plugin which is :SO OBVIOUSLY: not legitimate (Legitimate websites will always tell you to go to adobe.com) then he :SO OBVIOUSLY: did not value his account or any other details he has since typed into Internet Explorer. Since we know if he had firefox surely he would have Noscript and Adblock, Rite? Rite? Guise? _____________________________________ Haruhiist since December 2008

This post is full of win.
Except one thing on the bolded part. Noscript and Adblock both kick all sorts of ass, but they are by no means foolproof, just as no firewall/AV keeps you completely safe. Anyone clicking the links just because they have noscript/adblock are idiots, and sooner or later their luck will run out.
nobody should be clicking those links, period. Unless you fully intent to risk compromising a computer (or know for a fact the virus in the link is still one that your AV can catch, but even then...) you're just asking for trouble.

If an account gets hacked, you'll get the message "Account security compromised, disabled for ongoing investigation." or something. The nice GM will go through all transactions and revert them and give you back your account. There were people posting on the forum who got hacked and then got the account back.
In your friends case, taking a wild guess, the GM found a nice little ISK transaction to your friend from a known ISK seller prior to beeing hacked. So it's well clear where the keylogger came from.
We had many poeple on the forum claiming not having bought ISK and even had GMs post and state clearly what evidence was found on that character and led to the ban.
Why would CCP ban an account without having a solid evidence. That wouldn't make any sense. I rather believe CCP who has no reason to lie or ban innocent accounts than to believe your corpmate who most likely has a reason to lie.

Posting to say that CCP does not delete data, ever.
Example: during unholy rage, CCP temporarily banned 6000 accounts for RMT for 30 days. According to you, they should have had their accounts permanently deleted.
CCP understands that many accounts were compromised due to keyloggers, so I *HIGHLY* doubt that they would simply delete an account because it was a part of RMT.
CCP's standard procedure for hacked accounts, I believe, is to suspend the account while they conduct an investigation and restore it.

Sadly the corporation resignation message makes it clear that means nothing. Something about "I hear by tender you my resignation". Written by CCP. "hear by".

well no, the problem seems to be that they can act arbitrarily and with zero consistency to wipe people out. banning an account, especially a long term paying account, should be a big deal not a casual lolz0r at GM HQ.
its all academic anyway as you can just re-register using a GTC as anyone you like. so all it does is hurt individuals while the farmers carry on regardless ..
I'm not saying I disagree with the zero tolerance policy, but they really should issue a warning for a first offence. if they did, and the op is talking sheet, then I apologize ccp. :P
