Im getting the perception that if youre account gets hacked there isnt much CCP will do? Couple with the fact that you got threads on these forums that lead to keyloggers without so much a mod doing anything about it, this doesnt look good. The best solution Id suggest would be to lock any threads that mention hacking of any kind like most games do. But since we cant even manage to lock threads that contain links to keyloggers, I dont know that CCP cares. Do you? Or do we have to make you?

Chinese law changes , basically they need a new angle ... when my main pvp acc was hacked just before i locked it the training was switched to cruise missiles :P
And as you say i am on edge of caring also , after a week almost of being ignored while i spam petitions to get my 2 indy accounts locked some douche continues to play with my subs i cant cancel as ingame password is locked in with the eve-o webby , thank god my subs run out soon , and tbh even if its 100% resolved which as this stage i highly doubt i dunno if i want to continue paying a company that treats its loyal customers this way 45e a month

If they didnt get any people infected with loggers they would proably stop spamming the forums, but it's a testiment to how stupid people are when clicking on obvious malware.
They must be infecting quite a few people, otherwise they would not persist.

CCP are always slow on these things, there are obvious ways to reduce the risk of it happening but all CCP have done to date is make a middle man page between the link and the destination
The fix to stop the account (not the assets) being stolen is to ban all players form changing the email address linked to their account.

not going to happen.
YOUR idea will never work because if you ever get your ISP changed on you for any reason your out of luck.
Hell I left AOL a long time ago, had the second Email Provider I was using disapear on me when it merged with someone else forcing everyone to change there Email and now Im with a new Email provider from the one I went to after that.

Edited by: Zartanic on 23/08/2009 03:52:14 The problem is that they banned a lot of accounts recently, there's dev blogs about it. But the effect has been:
1. A lot of the banned players appeal (including on these forums which you will read and assume genuine) in the hope that despite their guilt they will be reinstated.
2. They can't legislate for stupidity, keyloggers are very obvious and you have to go through hoops to get one by a link. And even then they only need basic security on their computers to avoid it. But some people don;t take responsibility for their own security it seems yet are happy to scream about it when it all goes wrong. They should remove direct links though.
3. The botters/hackers are not happy with their loss of income from all the bans they got and they are focusing more on hacking to make it up.
So CCP are inundated with appeals which means the innocent get badly affected.

Were you born stupid or did you eat paint chips afterwards?
This game is full of morons who'll click any link regardless of all the red warning flags. One moron is keylogged and his account is used to flood the forums with more keylogger links. Then more link clicking morons get keylogged and the cycle continues on and on.
CCP is doing all they can to restore players accounts, but ultimately it's a problem of player stupidity. CCP cannot keep up with all the idiots clicking obvious keylogger links.
The forum moderators are doing everything they can, but it's becoming apparent they're overworked and understaffed. ___________________________________

Not just this game. General human trait. Pretty sure it was done of purpose. A bunch of gods got together and thought "lets make a animal that is so curious it will be unable to resist, even if told that imminent death will surely result!". Then they thought of different ways to amuse themselves using this trait.
For instance...who would worry about apple trees? Put a apple tree in the middle of a big garden full of food, who cares? Just remember to stay away during a thunderstorm. Tell those same people "eat anything except those apples!" and all of the sudden they're listening to a talking snake (which should definately be your first hint that something is very wrong here) and they just have to have an apple right now!
Somewhere in the universe is a button that will undo all of existance. The gods are just waiting for us to find it.

The last time I listened to a snake It was Mushroom not apples causing the effect. Someone who has the infecrion should disassemble the program and get the delivery ip or address and publish it. I'm sure in this creative community we could figure out something to do with it.

This can be easily done by making a dummy drive with a trial eve account. And then using a network packet sniffer to see who it contacts. Sadly this would be of very little use, as the hackers would be among the first to know after it's published, also unlike the idiots that download they keyloggers, hackers actually know how to, and do use ample amounts of firewalls and internet security to guard themselves. Not to mention there is a 95% or better chance they will all be in China or Iran.

Oh come on
You had to click on a link provided by someone with a name like "DFHJDFHJDEDET" who can't even type a proper English sentence, you were then directed to some dodgy looking site and instructed to install a flash player. I'm not gonna call you stupid but you must be incredibly slow or were born on the internet yesterday to not catch on to today's common internet scams/hacks/exploits. |

First off, the mods do a heck of a lot of work deleting dodgy, and by dodgy I mean blatantly obviously keylogger, threads. It's just that they post them multiple times. For this I do blame the mods, because after even one thread is made and reported they should immediately forum ban them. Most are taken care of quickly, but several have reposted over a day after the original appeared.
Anyway, the volume of idiots who have been hacked is quite large, so the GMs are probably quite overworked at this time. But the best way they can take action is by banning the accounts so that nothing else can happen, then restoring them when everything has been worked out. So it just appears as if there's nothing much CCP will do.
What you should find disturbing is that people fall for this even after all the ample warnings and the blatant obviousness of the attempts. If everyone used a little bit of common sense this wouldn't be a problem.

Interesting. You seem to have enough self awareness to possibly be able to elucidate why you did it, knowing that you were almost cerrtainly dooming your account(s)? Serious question; this could shed important light on the human question.

Nah humans are typically pretty smart its just the last few thousand years of ever evolving technology has completely stopped the weeding out process that kept the morons from breeding in ever greater numbers.

That one has to be amusing to the gods. Create a bunch of life forms, simple system of reproduction (insert Bit A into Bit B). Give the creatures intelligence and all of the sudden Bit A is going into Bit C and Bit D and Bits even the gods hadn't even considered physically possible, which has to be baffling for them considering the who point of the process. They've got to be wondering how all these people keep managing to stick Bit A somewhere where reproduction is highly unlikely, if not impossible. Pretty sure they've come to the conclusion that what we call "idiots" are actually the smart ones cause they always seem to find a way of creating offspring no matter where Bit A goes...actually pretty sure what we call "idiots" are actually a different species entirely, most likely descended from rabbits in some way. Would explain a lot about modern society atleast.
