I'm looking for ideas for a semester project for my software engineering class, If anyone has EVE related app ideas let me know. I have a 4 man team assembled ( just formed up, only know one other guy so I am wary of the others programming experience ) and we need a project. I can't guarantee we'll pick an idea posted here, but I would really like to do something EVE related, I might even get the other guys hooked on EVE.
The formal requirements for the project are that it must be something nontrivial and meet a real need. My additional requirement is that it must be possible to create with free tools and on Windows/Linux boxes, so no iPhone apps. |

How about a web-base application like QuickBooks or other similar account software but made to interact with the Eve API much like those programs do with a bank to import a check account, etc. If you could make one that scales from a single character up to something that is even useful to an alliance and their member corps I think you'd have a hit on your hands. -- Finds camping stations from the inside much easier. I'm not familiar with QuickBooks (I'll take a look), but it certainly appears to be well within the scope of my (and my team's) abilities and assignment requirements. I assumed that anything I might create with EVE in mind would have some tie-in with financial data. Once I know more about QuickBooks I could decide if a clone designed for EVE would be appropriate on its own for the assignment. Whether or not it's the project that gets chosen I appreciate the reference to QuickBooks, since I wanted to do something similar for my own pet project.
Thanks! And of course any other ideas are welcome to be posted. |

Something really cool would be a "Universal Cache File Parser".

Maybe something like EFT for OS X / Linux? Perhaps you could add it to gtkevemon (it's open source - and hey, there's your skill data for all of those bonuses and requirements!).
I _hate_ having to use a VM for EFT. It doesn't run well at all in WINE. --- Owl |

Look at Pyfa
It's a python fitting tool (windows, mac, linux, solaris native), works pretty close to EFT, and the developer has been working on it quite steadily.

Now for my suggestion:
an IGB/OOG website that ties into the assets, for the purposes of ordering/producting/selling ships/modules/etc.
customers get interface to current stock/place orders builders/admin get interface to orders/assets/lists
lists to output: materials in possession and prices you purchased them at (wallet/journal api) materials to get (database) materials/final costs (eve-metrics/eve-central)
Most of it is and can be done via spreadsheets, but if integrate it with an ordering system, and the apis/datadumps, it would be more useful.

open source C# EVE API Lib. :) I know there is a c# api lib, but it isn't open source and I'm not comfortable with the developers suggestion of just de-compiling it.
