I realize this is probably posted tons of places already, but after countless google searches I haven't found how the tournament will be shown. Will it be streamed on EVEtv? Put up on youtube? Set up for downloads via torrents? I can't wait to watch it, but I have to know _how_ to watch it before it starts hehe.
If it is posted other places a link to that place is enough for me.

It is my impression that it will be the same setup as last tourney (I keep wanting to say last year, but it AT6 was only in Feb!).
Which means the first 2 weekends (5th/6th then 12th/13th Sept) will be broadcast live via various eve related internet radio stations (audio commentary from some experts or something). The matches should then appear on youtube within a few days for people to watch the explosions (fingers crossed in HD)
The finals weekend (19th/20th Sept) will be broadcast as a live video stream (with uploads to youtube a few days after the drinking and hangovers end).
This is obviously not official unless somebody from CCP says so
Keep an eye on the forums for full details next week.

If I remember correctly as well, the live commentary for the first two weekends will be broadcast live, in game, through EVE voice and a special alliance tournament channel that CCP will make active. Its this channel that gets rebroadcast on EVE radio, New Eden radio, and split infinity radio (if its the same as last year, that's upto those stations I'd assume).
If you listen to those stations, then they usually try to fill in the gaps between matches with music, discussion, commercials, ect. Due to this, I did find that you lost a bit of the opening commentary of some matches, but I won't knock em for that. Its cool that they're using their bandwidth to stream the commentary in the first place.
But yeah, watch this forum, the exact info will be posted soonish I'd expect.. its getting close now. |

We will announce closer to the date the exact method for watching the stream.
However, when the time comes there will be direct links to the stream from here: http://www.eveonline.com/tournament

Will we have the opportunity to view all the battles? Or only the last day of play?
I liked that for AT5 we got to see all the fights (even if it was in low-res) and all I can find anymore for AT6 is the final day.
Please give us the whole tourney!!!! :)

I would be very keen on be able to watch the whole tourny live. This waiting a few days to get it posted (except for the finals) is kinda frustrating to be honest. Keep it low rez if you have to, give it to us without commentary... just give it to us.

This time they will open a wormhole to every system in EVE so capsuleers in pod will be able to see it from behind an asteroid fence. - Target analysis - Fit EVE to screen - EFT setup sort |

Yeah, I like it! Make the tournament realistic by applying some good old Jita-style lag!

Umm, I want to rebut what was said a few posts above me.
"keep it low res, just get it to us"
Umm,, no, thanks very much. the HD is so much better than teh low res as to be almost a totally different product. You cannot even read names on the low res eve videos, while the HD ones are beautiful to watch.
I would much rather wait an extra day or so for HD videos to get onto the net rather than watching some blurry junk.

I am quite inclined to agree with you - Been watching AT5 and can't stand to watch it much anymore after seeing the HD AT6.
I would be willing - but not excited - to wait if HD cannot be available right away.

hi, I was wondering in vein hope if there might be a method of watching/downloading the delayed videos by a different method than youtube? Since sadly youtube is not accessible everywhere at the moment. Many thanks if anyone has a solution.

Edited by: killerbitsch on 02/09/2009 06:52:45 I wonder how hard it would be to code it, but an ingame TV would be a rather nice addon for the event. It shouldn't broadcast video stream, but only the shiptypes, coordinates, and stuff, so that all the visuals are rendered at the watching client. to reduce lag, it could be only activated when docked, and while it's active, several other functions (maybe all other) would be disabled. For more lag reduction the priority of the cam broadcasts could be set (so that it doesn't ruin nor the match nor the recordings).
This could be digital TV as it was meant to be. All the cameras would broadcast their position and POV, while the arena would broadcast the actual happening, while the one who watches would be able to freely change in between the cameras to look at whatever the viewer wants to look at.
IMO this mod wasn't that hard to add to the game, and would give a lot of fun for the people interested in the AT. It's just a rough estimate from my side, but I think it's less data to move than browsing the market at a medium market hub.
probably the right place for this post is assembly hall...
edit: been thinking it further a bit. as far as i suspect the tournament (system) runs on a dedicated (separate) HW part of the server cluster. if so, it only has to broadcast a single stream of data of the ships, and the cams, while all other parts of the cluster can figure it out how to give it to the clients interested... i think 1 stream of max 20 ships, and a bunch of camera positions wouldn't at all ruin the game (AT) itself... :)

I liked the low res "Live" video feed, I also liked "seeing" the guys on the couch talking between games, it was a first for the world and well watched... chuck in some real comercials if you have to , to sponsor the live feed or equipment rental... but bring it live - pictures and all. God can you imagine what would happen if FIFA said we will have the first 6 rounds of the world cup on radio and then upload the video a few days later to youtube ! ???
I always wanted to be somebody, but now I realize I should have been more specific.

Edited by: Alfa Oven on 02/09/2009 12:12:30 Please put vids of fights for first two weekends on youtube (or any other video dump of your choice) in HD after each fighting day. It was done for previous tournament I think and was nice to watch the fight at my own pace.
Quote: I wonder how hard it would be to code it, but an ingame TV would be a rather nice addon for the event. And this. FFS make a super small client that will only show the fight if needed (striped down version of current one) and make it so that there will be a server "streaming" coordinates and actions to every client. While you're at it could you also include an option to "tape" eve experience with this approach so every client would be able to decode it and show visuals? You cold sit in a ship that was in battle and look at pretty lights go green and red

Yes I can personally say that the biggest loss to the Alliance Tourney's for me was the live video streams for ALL the matches <was probably the same for other people as well>, as there are usually a lot of really good fights in the early rounds
I think CCP also lost out when they stopped doing this as I know that a lot of people that were considering playing would watch the matches to see what it is like, & the fact they were being sent out basically live was also something not many had seen before from an MMO.
Sadly for whatever reason CCP decided that it was not going to have these streams any more a few Tourney's back & have instead gone with using Radio to broadcast a Tourney in a game that is more or less completely visually based. I know for me listening to someone that really isn't the best at doing the job at hand is just not a big enough drawcard to even bother staying up to hear it live any more, & I will guess that there are many others that feel the same way.
We can only hope that ALL the matches are posted to YouTube to watch as they were last time from memory....

As for me, i dont go and listen to radio shows with eve sounds and big lol's...
I want to see all matches from tourney 1 to 7, and that within a good quality, which happen in time we play fleet battles with even 1500+ pilots.
I hope some day we get the easy links for a torrent for each match or at least a package of all tourneys.
I count myself as a person who wants to collect all matches for my own pleasure to review by any time i think i need a pvp without my own losses :p
Best way for all would be a torrent way to release those files, where at least ccp run 1 server / tracker / client with all files but very slow uploading speed.
Why slow u maybe ask, well, i prefer that we have a static server, and after enough ppl are downloading the streams, main speed share via us and not ccp side.
After i now read that we get only radio shows for first 2 WE of our tournament, i dont listen to it, im really pi..ed that those happen still in times of hightech speed for internet.
My 2 cents, uhm, 3 cents this time as we have 3 WE as tourney, Ping
