For capital ships with maintenance bays like carriers/moms you should be able to dock in it, not just scoop your ship into its maintenance bay, the pilot should be able to dock inside the carrier/mom and have access to fitting and the ships corporate hangar if allowed, and of course the carrier/mom pilot should be able to throw him out, there should be settings like allow fleet or corp to dock inside you or individual accepts. Also you could dock on the carrier and if he jumps somewhere you would ofc go with him. Also i think carriers should have at least 1,5m m3 maint bay and a mom should have 3m m3 maint bay.

A way to integrate this idea would be your own camera drone around the carrier/mothership while docked rather than any new environment. ___

Yeah a nice option would be to either look at a new more stylish docking bay that could hold up to a battleship size, and/or switch to the carriers/mom view

Should carriers be able to jump with people docked? Would the docked people just get kicked out in pods instead? Or should the pilots jump with the carriers?
I think it would be interesting and fitting for a carrier to be able to jump a number of pod pilots (i.e. a carrier capable of deploying its own modest escort), but I fear that it would probably be imbalanced and broken for some reason or another. Hotdrops would probably become even more potent, but I find myself asking if that is really such a bad thing.

Dont see why this would not work in theory, the ships are all manned by personell and having ships in the cargo is the same as carrying equipment really. Also being a ship which can deploy ships just hads a whole new dynamic to fleet battles.
Bring it on.

CCP tried it. turns out when you try to put one entity inside another entity and then do a session change for the external entity, the server curls up in a ball and cries very softly. ------ I, for one, welcome our new console overlords! |

Uh you know ships would not actually go inside the carrier, just into a room that would have an entry point at the carrier and an exit point at the carrier :P

The people would go with the carrier if it jumps, and hotdrops would be come much more effective with this, because thats what motherships and carriers do they are supposed to bring loads of backup/support into a fight.

CCP have tried to allow players to dock with another ship. Titans were originally going to be mobile stations. When they tried to do it there were database problems. CCP found they could not have a player as a sub object to another player or something like that.
There is a dev post about it somewhere, this idea does keep getting re-posted but without redesigning the whole database structure its not possiblw. Macrointel, the place were the nature order of the universe does not hold sway. Pirates and ore thief's are congratulated by carebears for the actions. |

doesnt work that way. if you put someone "inside" a carrier and then jump the carrier, their location does odd things. i dont know the details, i didnt code it. but this topic has been covered again and again for years now. CCP originally intended for carriers to work exactly as OP suggested, but it didnt work. ------ I, for one, welcome our new console overlords! |

couldnt this be overhauled with walking in stations? It kills roleplay to stay with the capsule outside
