Do you really want the game launcher to stay active in the background 24/7? No, but as it is now the game laucher starts up checks if there is a patch, gives you a "everything is ok" then starts the client. You try to log into the game, a window pops up telling you that you need to install small fix 6.0.1 #787192798178787 and that you should hit OK. You do so and a 5mb patch gets downloaded restarting your Game Client. So why does the Launcher say the game is up to date and not just downloads the 5mb small fix instead is very strange. The updates the client gets for itself are slightly different from the regular patches handled by the launcher, while it takes roughly three hours to build a normal patch the client update can be built and deployed in under ten minutes. We know they are annoying so we try to use them only when a serious enough bug has been found a few hours before deployment. There are plans for having the launcher handle these but no commitment on when they are realized.
wh does only eve do this?
any other game the Launcher COMES UP, PATCHES THE GAME, PRES START PLAY. *sry caps locks*
In eve the thing opens, patches something, then opens the game, then says there is update, downloads the update, closes the game, installs the update, opens the launcher, patches the launcher, opens the game...

one possible thing they could add to the eve gate is the ability to alter skill queues from there, just an idea mind. means if your not actually going to play but are just updating skill queue you could then just log into eve gate and do the alterations that way, and means you dont need the eve client installed so you could quickly login from somewhere else briefly (ie 5 mins break in work/school etc) update skill queue and logout of the eve gate |

The client updates are a system that was in place long before the launcher was developed, the launcher was created to tackle patches. Prior to the launcher we always built patches for the last few deployed versions of the client, for both supported platforms, which took about ten hours and then each of those patches had to be tested. Now that we have the launcher we can build a single payload for each platform and test those, so in the grand scheme of things it's not a very high priority to get client updates into the launcher. There are much larger issues to tackle before that one. Not a high priority for who? You guys forced this new launcher on us, making the game unplayable for many people and loading up multiple instances of the game slower, while telling everyone it would be worth it in the long run. Now once again a new "feature" has been patched just enough to work and and pushed to the back-burner because it is no longer a priority.
And you guys wonder why people are so skeptical of the new inventory system... |

5 min updates is nothing.
Some here probably now what "patch day no play" means with several day/week server shut downs to get a fully playable game environment again.
CCP are not an exception to patch things that should have worked from the beginning but they handle it pretty good.
And we like it so much we even troll them about patches patching the patch patching latest patch, witch is an obvious joke they usually take it good. No body is perfect but CCP does a good job to maintain a very good level (should say excellent compared to almost every other gaming company)
Plus, this gives us a reason to call them out for lols and giggles they usually respond in a very good spirit of fun, interacting with their community as you will not see anywhere else. brb |

I hear ya. It drives me up the wall to have to wait 4-5 minutes every few days.
Especially in your case, that 4-5 minutes takes away from the unbelievably exciting and important activity of watching skill points rise. Your perseverance in face of adversity to reach your goals is an inspiration to us all. You're a prince among men. |

Quick response patches are highly preferrable to waiting long periods of time for a fix to an issue, and I am unaware of anyone that claims the new launcher "made the game unplayable".

Also, if you ever manage to get out of your mom's basement, you will discover that you can have a better computer and faster internet so you don't have to wait to download and install a patch, and come here to whine about it, IF you get a job, which pays real money, YES, real money!
It feels so good seeing "badasses" in this game eventually showing their real colors.

Also, why the F do you still keep "playing" this game if all you do anymore is log in to train skills every x days? Inappropriate signature, CCP Phantom. |
