There, I fix it for u. Iz moar akkurat nao.
That said, long as it's obtained legally, who cares how you get the ISK? The important part is having fun. If blowing rocks apart is fun, have at it. Pop mission rats? Cheers. Gank some stupid carebear on a losec belt? Go for it. Participate in a fleet fight in nosec? Right-o.
EvE is a sandbox. Don't let others tell you how to play.

Originally by: Lord Bentley MINING 7/10...mining...you could find very good spawns sometimes.
This sparked a thought in my head. One of the reasons other MMOs are addictive is the unpredictability of some of the rewards they give you in-game. Quests that require you to fetch "10 boojum parts" and you only get a "boojum part" off one in three (randomly decided) "boojums" that you interact with, for example. It's a well-studied phenomenon in the gaming slot machine industry that is very powerful in keeping you coming back.
At the moment, mining is almost entirely predictable. And therefore boring. Making it less predictable per cycle whilst maintaining the long-term return would inherently make it more "interesting". Funny how the human brain works, isn't it?

i still find this argument kind of misleading, since the last report stated that only 19% of the playerbase actually move into 0.0 = pvp and only 37% had ever been into low sec... soo it should be kind of obvious that pvp is not the main steam of the game, although they certainly like to say that :P ___________________________________________ Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow man is either a fool or a coward. It is the main steam because without it there would be no real industry or a market. Stuff needs to be destroyed constantly or there is little point in producing more of it. Without constant PvP losses, you would buy few faction fits for your set of shiny ships and that would be all you would ever need.
The playerbase percentages depend on how they are calculated. If they are character based(calculate all the alts) or calculate all the players who play a few months and leave the game, it is to be expected, that the numbers favor people living in highsec.

Nice post Lord Bentley. I'm glad you liked the tutorial. The one that existed before it was dire.
I agree that pretty much being required to do the learning skills sucks and suspect that this has put off lots of potential players. It would be great if CCP sorted out that problem.
Get into PvP, that is what it is all about.

Originally by: Saint Lazarus ...then came Super Noobs with 800k ... Personally I think it was best with the Super Noobs ... Current system is just bad.
You might want to note that the current system, SP-wise is equal or better when compared with your 'Super Noobs'.
Before you started with 800k and for the sake of simplicity let's say you trained 800k worth of learning skills in one month, to come up to 1.6 mil total SP.
Now you start with (some pretty small number) of SP, thanks to double training time you can train the same learning skills (800k) in 2 weeks, and you'll have 800k worth of double speed still to train up everything else + your improved learning skills... Overall this means you can reach our reference point of 1.6 mil faster than as a 'Super Noob', AND with a greater degree of choice as to your skill allocation early on.
Edit: And with the two attribute remaps, if you wanted to you could even maximize your stats for those early learning skills to make it even faster.
Very true, but the OP made a good point. You have nothing to do while training new skills. At least with the old system, you chose a profession and you were good at what you did because you started out with 800k SP; so it gave you something to do.
On the other hand, the OP also said that missions are more lucrative than mining and he is wrong. On a new Apoc character, it should only take like 10 days or something to get a Retriever, which is way more lucrative than any L1 or L2 mission. Once you get to L3, the story changes, but as a new character, just getting a Retriever can get a person alot of money quickly.

Casual friendly, someone said?
I find it TOO casual-friendly...I'm better off not logging in cause then I don't risk loosing implants(meaning training time, which converts to real-world-time). You can't speed up training in any way so why play other than for ISK or a quick pvp-fix?
Basically I need two accounts just to get some action in this game...it's too relaxed otherwise.

To train 3 characters at once for 3 seperate roles.... then again that's just speculation

I will never understand this mentality.
Unless you have some messed up head, you enjoy the game by playing it. Not by watching your skill points go up on EVEMON. Therefore firstly you would enjoy the game by playing it. Then secondly, you could use implants to enjoy the time you do spend playing it that little bit more.
What you say means that you have fun knowing your skills are increasing and implants surviving for a character you do not want to use. What exactly is the point in paying monthly for the character's skills to improve when you don't want to use it. Fact is, there are ALWAYS more skills to train so you MUST enjoy playing with your character whilst its skills are training. If you want to use expensive implants to help your training then that adds to the risk factor and therefore the tenseness of PvP and the fun it creates, just as losing your ship which cost you real life time does.

People buy new ships also just for the sake of buying a new ship, not like every ship is replaced just cause something blew up...I'm one of those who like to waste cash on ships cause I get bored flying the same same.
Right, except a single PvPer can and do buy several ships a week to replace ships that blew up. Often even in a day if they see heavy action / POS fights etc. AND they buy new ships which are not replacements for blown up ships because it also gets boring for them to PvP in the same ship everyday.
In fact, a PvPer probably buys more ships in this way then a PvE'er, since they need lots of different ships for lots of different situations. Whereas running missions or mining in hi-sec needs about 1 each and only more to provide variety.
Comparing a PvE'er buying new shiny ships out of boredom to a PvPer shows you have zero meangingful PvP experience. There is no way PvE alone could sustain the economy like PvP does.
Not to mention the fact that selling the game on alliance wars, pirating, tactics etc is much easier than on shooting either rocks (says it all) or NPCs with no AI - that sit and wait to die and are just red crosses on your screen unless you zoom in invdiidually to their ship...

As a new player to the MMORPG arena, I chose to start with EVE. I agree that there is much to learn and that the learning curve is steep but one of the most important lessons I learned came from flirting with three different "females" and they flirted back. Only later did I find that they were male playing female avatars thus educating me on the fact that EVE either has a signifcant trans-gender community or I was being played for the noob I still am.
And yes, I am posting with an alt as the embarrasment of those "episodes" still follows me to this day.

This is probably a strange request, but does anyone have a guide on how to enjoy eve as a newbie?
I find it difficult to convince friends to play because basically at times i'm having a hard time enjoying eve myself. I'm mostly carebearing by my lonesome because i'm too lazy to deal with corporations, and too paranoid(smart?) to solo.
With all that said, i've been playing for a year or two now.. I think i'd enjoy it alot more if I could fool some friends into playing. By the sounds of it, atleast the tutorial is worth some salt now.
If you have a particular guide or article that might give good insight into why EVE is better than run-of-the-mill MMOs I'd like to see em. Solid gameplay guides would probably work too. (pirate blogs were pretty good for me, but not accessible to a new player starting out- for a week atleast)
