M&D,
Hi there. Long time reader, first time poster (mainly as I am afraid of the folks in this forum). Let me screw up my courage...ah. There we go.
Here is the question: Has anyone written up a small guide for the new trader looking to reduce his tax rate by running missions? I have searched this forum and the Missions forum but, unless I just missed it, one does not exist. I am a relatively new player (played some in '05) who has never been drawn to NPC missions but, now that I see what it costs me to put up a buy and sell order, I think I need to get into it a bit more.
The question is where to start? The only missions that I have run are the tutorial missions so I am at a loss here. Do I run missions for a particular Corp. and hope that my trading is done in their stations? Do I focus on the whole faction? How do I find the right agent to meet trader-specific needs (mainly courier and trade missions)? Any help would be appreciated. I'm not looking to start a new career as a mission-bot but I am feeling the bite in my wallet for not being "known" to the powers that be in New Eden.

I would simply say, look at the hubs you want to do your trading in. Then work for the owners of the hub, which lowers your tax rates. Of course, there are some skills that do this as well as lowering cash amounts that are held in escrow.

I'm more or less in the same position as you on the issue, but there's a few tidbits of information I've gathered. I don't really know any of it for sure, but it's stuff I've seen written.
-faction standing affects broker fees more than corp standing does, but both matter.
-If you trade much in/from a major trade hub, then focusing on the standing with the corp that owns that station should help the most.
-There's some other bonuses to standing as well. With a high faction standing you can anchor a pos in highsec, supposedly making it so hard to take down that you don't need to worry about protection. With a high enough standing with a corp that has medical facilities, you can make jump clones. Standing also affects reprocessing.
As for what the most conveniant way to raise standing is, I am still clueless.

Combat missions on a combat capable character, courier missions if not. Don't forget those social skills either.

It is quite simple: do missions for the corp who owns the station wherefrom you trade. By right-clicking the corp you may find a list of agents available to you. As you raise your standing, higher level agents become available. Take a look in the Mission forum for more specifics.

Hire a mission runner to share standings with you. Ideally someone who has access to l4's with the NPC Corporate Station Owner you expect to do most of your trading with. After enough sharings... you'll have enough standings to go for higher level agents yourself directly. Stage 2: Hire someone to run your higher level missions for you. Don't share standings. PS: This is where being in a player corporation tends to be helpful. Easy to find partners/employees/contractors for such endeavors.

I've been using this for getting rid of the 5% reprocessing. What I found is that with connections 4 I go from a they take 5% to they take 3.8% by doing 1 level 1 courier mission. My suggestion is to get your connections to 4 and do 1 mission for all the corps you plan on using 1st. After that you can run more missions to get your standings up, however it will take a while to get to the 6 something you need to get 0% reprocessing or tax. |

Some people are offering standing increasement services. If you are a rich trader using these would propably be the easiest way.

Data centers offer agents with one time only missions where you turn in pirate tags and get a corp and faction standings boost. If you plan on trading in more then just one area look at the settled systems tab of the corp info to see where they have stations. You will be able to narrow down which corps work for you. Most of the non-military corps will have stations in other faction's space ie Scope, Core Complexion, the Caldari industrial corps

So is there any reliable way to control what kind of missions you get? Cause every agent I've tried so far has offered a mix that's so even that refusing all of one kind would mean facing standing penalties. Is that different when you get higher than level 1 or something like that?

Edited by: Rhivre on 04/09/2009 18:00:50 Intelligence, Security and Internal Security Divisions are mostly combat.
There is a link somewhere with a breakdown by division type..let me find it a moment and I will stick it in this post

Always remember: the kind of answers are often a mirror of the kind of questions. You asked a quite basic and "easy to find documentation for" but in a considerate and positive manner => you get considerate and positive answers. It's not CAOD after all - Auditing and consulting
